Lyle Robert Winters, 78, of Fullerton, ND passed away October 25, 2022 at CHI Hospital in Oakes.
He was born September 30, 1944 at Edgeley, ND to Robert and Lauretta (Podoll) Winters. Lyle graduated from Fullerton High School in 1963 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy October 16, 1963. While in the Navy, he served as an Armament Petty Officer on the aircraft carrier USS America. After his honorable discharge on October 13, 1967, Lyle returned to the area. He graduated from North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton with a Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration degree. In 1969 he married Alta Eck and they had two sons; Brian and Kevin. Lyle worked at Cenex Farmers Union in Ellendale until 1977. He then began farming the family farm northeast of Fullerton. In addition to farming, he did road maintenance for the county and custom spraying for several years. He retired in 2010.
Lyle served on the Fullerton Farmers Elevator Board of Directors as secretary/treasurer for over 20 years. He also served on the Fullerton Betterment Association and the ASCS boards. He enjoyed hunting and traveling to spend time with family.
He is survived by his two sons, Brian (Gladys) Winters, Vacaville, CA and Kevin (Donna) Winters, Cody, WY; two brothers, Loren (Lynette) Winters, Fullerton, ND and Craig (Ginny) Winters, Underwood, MN; his sister, Paula (Dave) Peterson, Oakes, ND; five grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Shannon, Isaac and Jackson and twelve nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Roberta DeForest.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 followed by his funeral at 2:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes. Lyle’s service will be live streamed on the Dahlstrom Funeral Home website www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com on his obituary page. Burial with military honors will take place on Monday, October 31st at 1:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
