Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 4, 2013) — The Jamestown Rescue Squad was called to a vehicle extracation about 7:50-a.m., Wednesday at 10th Avenue Northeast and 16 1/2 Street Northeast.

Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther said, no other damages outside of the vehicles were reported.

Eight fire fighters were on the scene until about 8:23 a.m.

Jamestown Police say, 18 year old Brittany O’Neill, was driving a 2001 Ford pickup south on 10th Avenue approaching the intersection with 16 1/2 Street.

A juvenile was driving a 1999 Ford car with two juvenile passengers east on 16 1/2 Street, also approaching the intersection. The vehicle O’Neill was driving struck the car.

The police say the fire department used the “Jaws of Life” to remove one of the juvenile passengers out of the car. The driver and a passenger removed from the car were transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center by Jamestown Area Ambulance Service.

O’Neill reported an injury but declined treatment.

O’Neill was cited for failed to yield.

Police will release the names of the juvenile driver and passengers when the accident report is completed.

Damage was estimated at $5,000 to the Ford truck and the car was totaled.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen says the new 750,000 gallon, $2-million water tower to serve Southwest Jamestown is moving ahead on schedule, and should be on line this fall. She points out that the tower will be painted with a design yet to be chosen next spring.

The new water tower is to serve areas near the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Louis L’Amour Elementary School, Buffalo Mall, Walmart and the North Dakota State Hospital.

An affiliated project brings the force main water lines south and west of the Wal-Mart and Buffalo Mall area.

The completion date on construction on the water lines is expected by October 15, 2013.

The water tower should be finished by November 30, 2013 with the tower painted by July 15, 2014.

The tower construction’s lead contractor is Chicago Bridge and Iron.

Naastad Brothers of Hatton, North Dakota is installing the water lines.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 3, 2013) — The Jamestown City Council’s Public Works Committee this month will further talk about the possible elimination of four traffic stop lights in downtown Jamestown.

The traffic lights under consideration of removal are on First Avenue, at the intersections of 3rd Street North, 1st Street, 2nd Street south, and 5th Street North.

On Tuesday’s (Sept 3, 2013) City Matters program on CSi 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen said if those traffic lights are eliminated the parts would be used to repair and service other traffic lights in town.

She added that the plan would call for the elimination of the traffic lights in phases.

She said the city would look at concerns of pedestrian traffic safety, any excessive speed on First Avenue the elimination of the traffic lights would cause, and if the action would cause traffic accidents.

She pointed out that if the traffic lights were taken out, the intersections would be two-way stops with the side street traffic being stopped.

She noted that the plan will undergo a lengthy study, and public notices would be given before any traffic lights are taken out.

More decisions could be based on the Land Use and Transportation Plan results.

NFL-MOVES

     Rookies  Smith, Manuel gets starts

UNDATED (AP) – The Jets are going with rookie Geno Smith at quarterback for the season opener with Tampa Bay on Sunday.  The move was expected after veteran Mark Sanchez went down with a right shoulder injury in an exhibition game against the Giants on Aug. 24.

The Buffalo Bills are also going with a first year quarterback, giving first-round draft pick EJ Manuel the start against New England Sunday.  Manuel has been recovering from a left knee injury sustained in a 20-16 preseason win over Minnesota on Aug. 16. He missed two weeks before returning to practice on Sunday.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – New York’s Oneida Indian Nation says it is launching a radio ad campaign pressing for the Washington Redskins to get rid of a nickname the tribe considers to be a racial slur.

The first ad is set to run on radio stations in Washington before the team hosts the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. In it, Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should “stand up to bigotry.”

The ads launch as the Washington Redskins this year face a fresh barrage of criticism over their nickname. Team owner Dan Snyder has vowed to never change the name.

An NFL spokesman says the name is used in a respectful manner and the league respects “that reasonable people may have differing views.”

In World and national news…

CAIRO (AP) – Egypt’s unrest has taken a new turn today, when a senior government official was the target of a bomb attack. Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim, who is in charge of the country’s police, says a “large” explosive device likely detonated by remote control targeted his convoy. Appearing on state television, the minister appeared shaken but unhurt. At least eight people were injured, including two police officers and a child seriously.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) – The G-20 summit is to focus on the global economy, but U.S. officials are resigned to Syria overwhelming much of the discussion. President Barack Obama is meeting on the summit’s sidelines with the leaders of France, China and Japan. A Chinese finance ministry official warns that an international military strike targeting Syria for the Assad government’s alleged chemical attack would have a negative impact on the global economy, sending oil prices higher and dampening growth.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) – South Korea says North Korea has agreed to restore a cross-border military hotline. North Korea cut the hotline in March during a period of high tensions in which it issued a series of threats including vows to launch nuclear strikes on Seoul and Washington. The communist regime has since dialed down its rhetoric.

MOSCOW (AP) – A Russian lawmaker is proposing a bill that would deny gay parents custody over their children. The draft bill would make the “fact of nontraditional sexual orientation” a basis for denying custody. Other grounds include alcoholism, drug use, and abuse. The proposal comes in the wake of a bill banning homosexual “propaganda” among minors. Authors of the bill have justified it as a measure aimed at protecting children, and not suppressing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
