Marlys S. Pieske, 79, Jamestown, ND passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at SMP Health-Ave Maria, Jamestown, ND.
Marlys was born October 21, 1943 to Donald and Blanche (Krogh) Johnson at Woodworth, ND. She graduated from Woodworth High School in 1961, the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1964 and received her BA degree in Nursing from Jamestown College in 1988.
Marlys started her Nursing career at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown in 1964. Trinity Hospital closed in 1966 and Marlys started what was to become a 46-year career at Jamestown Hospital, retiring in 2010. She worked in most departments of the hospital, including stints at Head of Nurse of Coronary Care, Director of Nursing Services, Vice President Nursing and Quality Management Coordinator.
On August 15, 1965 Marlys and Richard Pieske were married in Woodworth, ND. They lived in their home in Jamestown, ND for 49 years. She was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Many weekends were spent at their cabin in the woods near Detroit Lakes, MN. Marlys and Richard enjoyed traveling, visiting 43 states and 34 foreign countries.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law Arnold and Olga Pieske, Woodworth, ND; brothers-in-law LeRoy Pieske (infant); Donald Pieske, Jamestown, ND; Dennis Pieske, Gardner, ND; Donald Meier and James Kuhn, both of Bismarck, ND and sister-in-law Marilyn (Daniel) Johnson, Devils Lake, ND.
She is survived by her husband Richard, Jamestown, ND; brother Daniel, Devils Lake, ND; in-laws Gary (Connie) Pieske, Detroit Lakes, MN; Cheryl Meier and Linda Kuhn, both of Bismarck, ND; Marlene Pieske, Jamestown, ND and Connie Pieske, Fargo, ND.
Visitation will be one hour before the service. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Tom Eckstein officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, ND.
