BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota House of Representative have approved legislation to legalize sports betting in the state. The measure passed Thursday will go to the state Senate. If senators approve it, North Dakota residents will vote on the issue in the November 2024 election. A change to the state constitution is required to legalize sports betting. Currently, sports betting is legal in North Dakota only at tribal casinos. The bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Greg Stemen, of Fargo, argued the measure would bring millions of dollars in revenue to the state and provide consumer protection for sports betting. Opponents contend expanded gambling would increase gambling addictions and ruin lives.
