WASHINGTON, D.C. (KCSi-T.V. News) – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp (@SenatorHeitkamp) will host a Twitter Town Hall on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 starting at 3:15 p.m. CT to talk about the recent developments in Syria, and her alternative proposal to address the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons.
“The recent news about the Assad regime accepting a Russian proposal to turn over its chemical weapons to international control is promising news. But we haven’t seen any action yet. And the circumstances are changing very quickly,” said Heitkamp. “During this Twitter town hall, I’d like to hear questions from North Dakotans about Syria, its use of chemical weapons, and the diplomatic approach we now appear to be taking that is very similar to what I called for. I hope to hear from as many North Dakotans as possible.”
Starting today, (Sept 12, 2013) anyone following @SenatorHeitkamp on Twitter can begin submitting questions about Syria by including #AskHeidiH with their tweet.
Heitkamp participated in many confidential briefings discussing the Assad regime’s horrible use of chemical weapons on its own people over the past week and explained her decision to vote against a resolution authorizing military force. Heitkamp, along with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), put forth an alternative approach that would allow the United States to build international support and exhaust all diplomatic options before considering military force.
In addition to in-person meetings, phone calls, emails and letters, Twitter is another way for Heitkamp to connect and hear from North Dakotans.
How it works:
– Log on to www.Twitter.com today through the end of the town hall on Tuesday.
– Post a tweet with a question about Syria followed by your hometown and #AskHeidiH. For example: What were your thoughts on the President’s speech about Syria? Casselton #AskHeidiH
– Senator Heitkamp will reply to as many tweets as possible regarding Syria.
