megna2FARGO, N.D. (AP Sept 16, 2013) – A prisoner transport company says it will pay $70,000 in expenses to law enforcement agencies and farmers who helped capture an escaped convict who tried to hide out in a North Dakota cornfield.
 
     The payment is part of a settlement agreement filed Monday in federal court. The government filed the complaint against Extradition Transport of America, which had been transporting Joseph Megna from Florida to Washington state in October 2011 when he escaped from a rest stop on Interstate 94.
 
     Area farmers used combines to help flush Megna from the field.
 
     The settlement also calls for the California-based transport company to pay a $10,000 fine. That’s the maximum penalty under a 2000 federal law passed following the escape of an inmate convicted of murdering an 11-year-old Fargo girl, Jeanna North.
