(Jamestown, ND) On August 17, 2023, at approximately (2:30pm) 1430 hrs., Jamestown Police received a report of a male subject near a business in northeast Jamestown, who was wanted on an order to apprehend warrant out of Stutsman County. JPD officers responded to the area, as we had received earlier reports of the same male near that area.
A Jamestown Police Officer located the male near an alley in the 800 block of 13 St NE. The subject immediately ran from an officer on foot. The subject jumped into a vehicle and hid briefly. Seconds later, the officer located the vehicle containing the wanted subject leaving the area and was being driven by a female.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the 2008 Toyota 4-runner refused to stop. The female driver made several erratic driving movements to flee from and elude officers for several blocks. The vehicle was being driven by a family member of the wanted subject. After several blocks, the vehicle pulled into a parking lot near the 1100 block of 7 St NE.
The wanted male subject got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Other responding officers took him into custody, after a short foot pursuit, near the 1000 block of 7 St NE. The vehicle tried to flee from officers a second time, at that location. Eventually, the vehicle was stopped leaving the parking lot.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle has been identified as 74-year-old Wanda Mae Guttormson of Jamestown. She has been arrested on suspicion of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.
The wanted male subject was identified as 29-year-old Eric Lee Odegard of Jamestown. Odegard has been arrested on suspicion of Failure to Halt, Order to Apprehend Warrant and Possession of Marijuana.
Odegard and Guttormson were transported to Stutsman County Corrections, to await formal charges. The Jamestown Police Department was assisted by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. The incident remains under investigation and more charges are possible.
We would like to especially thank the public for assisting our officers in recovering evidence of a crime during this incident. As always, we greatly appreciate the public’s assistance during chaotic situations.
