Update….

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 16, 2013) – With the Jamestown sanitary sewer project, Interstate Engineering reports Starting today, Tuesday Sept 17, 2013

2nd St SW is now closed from 4th Ave SW to the river. Drivers need to use detour to 1st St West bridge to access the Klaus Park area of SW Jamestown.

A section of 2nd St SW that crosses the James River is closed. The bridge over the James River is closed as well during this time.

Work is expected to last for about two weeks. Drivers can continue to access CSi Technology Center at Historic Franklin by using the east entrance from 3rd Ave SW.

3rd Street SE will close from 9th Avenue SE to Railroad Drive E. A detour will be in place on Railroad Drive E and 7th Avenue NE.

12th Avenue SE will also close later Tuesday from 3rd Street SE to 5th Street SE.

At this time, these closures are anticipated to be in place until later this week.

Drivers are also advised that starting this week, crews are working in the area of 17th St SE and 19th Ave SE. The intersection will remain open during this time. Work is expected to last for about one week.

3rd Street SE, from 9th Avenue SE to 12th Avenue SE, is open to traffic. Temporary surfacing is in place. Drivers should be aware that traffic has been moved to the north side of the street in this area.

In addition, 12th Avenue SE is open to traffic from 3rd Street SE to 5th Street SE.

Interstate Engineering reports that visitors needing wheelchair access to the Jamestown Business Center should use the east entrance and park in the east parking lot until the end of next week.

　

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Set 17, 2013) — The City of Jamestown has scheduled a Land Use and Transportation Plan Public Presentation.

The public is invited to attend the Workshop, Informational meeting and Formal Presentation of the Land Use and Transportation Plan for the City of Jamestown, on Monday, September 23, 2013, Jamestown Civic Center – Exchequer Room.

Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for displays.

5:30 pm – 7:00 p.m. – Presentation by RDG Planning & Design

Then, on Tuesday September 24, 2013 at 5-p.m., at City Hall, there will be a joint meeting of the Jamestown City Council, and the Jamestown City Planning Commission, to initalize the Land Use and Transportation Plan. The joint panel will obtain comments and concerns from the City Council and Planning Commission members.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 17, 2013) — St. John’s Academy at Zebedee Center will host the 23^rd Annual, HOPE Dinner and Auction on Saturday October 5, 2013.

Guests on Tuesday’s (Sept. 17, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, included the Chairperson Erin Romans, and St. John’s Academy’s Development Coordinator, Peggy Etzold.

Ms. Romans pointed that HOPE stands for Help Offer Private Education, noting that several sponsors help make the event possible, and others who contribution items to the live and silent auctions.

This year’s theme is “Diamonds Are Forever.”

The Social starts at 5-p.m, with dinner at 6:30.

She added that St. John’s Academy students including pre-schoolers are making items to be auctioned, plus second graders will be entertaining and sixth grade students will be helping out in addition to making an item from a window frame.

Orr Auctioneers will provide the auction services.

She noted that 200 auction items have been donated, including 40 items in the live auction.

Aramark Food Service will cater the meal of beef tenderloin and all the trimmings.

Ms. Etzold said tickets are $75 each, and can be purchased from herself or Erin Romans or by calling St. John’s Academy at 252-3397. She suggests reservations be made earlier as the event typically sells out.

Following the dinner and auction an after event will take place at the Jamestown Elks Club.

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) – The Season of Fall is soon upon us! Sunday September 22, 2013, we are meeting up at the Medicine Wheel Park (205 Winter Show Road SE, Valley City) to once again bear witness to the Autumnal Equinox sunset at 7:30PM.

From NDDOT…

All Drivers License offices statewide will be closed from Wednesday, September 25 through Friday, September 27. The closure will allow North Dakota Department of Transportation Drivers License employees to attend annual training sessions.

One exception to this will be the Drivers License site located at 608 East Boulevard Ave. in Bismarck, which will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25.

Motor Vehicle offices will remain open as scheduled, and will process vehicle registrations, vehicle titles, vehicle license plates and tabs, and associated work as usual. Seat belts save lives.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo man apparently plans to plead guilty and not stand trial on charges he killed his wife.
 
     Authorities say 47-year-old Ronald William Rogers Jr. shot Elizabeth Rogers to death Feb. 19 and placed a pistol in her hand to try to make it look like suicide.
 
 A  change of plea hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon and a two-week trial scheduled to start next week has been canceled.
 
     Rogers earlier pleaded not guilty to the Class AA felony charge of murder and a misdemeanor count of willfully disturbing a dead body.

 

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of being behind the wheel in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Dickinson has now pleaded not guilty to both charges against him.
 
     Forty-seven-year-old Timothy Menges is charged with negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. He entered his not guilty plea to the first charge in April and to the second charge on Monday. He could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
 
     Menges is accused of driving drunk last November, and striking and killing 47-year-old Tracy Freer in a motel parking lot.

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Two men who authorities say were involved in a car chase and shooting in Minot have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to reduced charges.
 
20-year-old Nathan Schlosser was sentenced to five years on charges including terrorizing and reckless endangerment. Eighteen-year-old Tegan Lamotte got four years on similar charges.
 
     Prosecutors on Monday dropped charges of conspiracy to commit murder against both men, as well as four counts of attempted murder against Schlosser.
 
     Authorities say Lamotte was driving a car that chased another vehicle through the city after a botched drug deal in February, while Schlosser shot at the other vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was wounded. The injury was not life-threatening.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Supreme Court Justice Mary Muehlen Maring says she will retire in December after more than 17 years on the bench.
 
     Maring says she personally delivered her letter of resignation to Gov. Jack Dalrymple on Tuesday.
 
     Maring says it has been her “distinct pleasure” to have served on the Supreme Court. During her tenure, she authored more than 700 state Supreme Court opinions.
 
     Former Gov. Ed Schafer appointed Maring in 1996 when she was Fargo attorney. She succeeded Beryl Levine, who retired. Maring was only the state’s second woman justice.
 
     Maring’s term runs through 2018. Under state law, the person appointed to the judgeship would serve until the 2016 general election and would serve the remainder of Maring’s unexpired term.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – New Census figures show that North Dakota’s poverty rate is below the national average.
 
     About 11.4 percent of the state’s residents were below the poverty line in 2012, which is the 13th-lowest rate among states and lower than the national average of 15 percent.
 
     About 14.1 percent of the state’s population saw income that was less than 125 percent of poverty level, which gives North Dakota the seventh–lowest rate among the states. The national average is 19.7 percent.
 
     Mississippi has the highest rate of poverty, while New Hampshire has the lowest.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Ground has been broken for another high school in Bismarck.
 
     Legacy High is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015.  Officials gathered on Monday to launch construction of the $58 million facility.
 
     Legacy students right now are attending classes at the Career Academy and at Bismarck State College. They are all ninth-graders.
 
     Voters a year ago overwhelmingly approved an $86.5 million bond issue to build the new high school and two elementary schools to deal with crowing problems and anticipated enrollment growth.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A company in Canada and one in Texas have extended an agreement to feed natural gas from North Dakota’s oil patch into an existing pipeline that moves gas to Chicago.
 
     Calgary-based Aux Sable Midstream LLC and Summit Midstream Partners LP of Dallas say up to 25 million cubic feet of natural gas daily will be sent from Burke and Mountrail counties, along a 2,300-mile pipeline system. The system extends from western Canada to the Chicago hub, where the gas is sold to Midwest and East Coast markets.
 
     Officials say about 17 million cubic feet of natural gas is being shipped daily right now.
 
     Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the deal between the companies helps curb the practice of burning natural gas as an unmarketable product of oil production. 

 

KEENE, N.D. (AP) – The western North Dakota oil patch town of Keene got a little help from the oil industry when officials decided to upgrade emergency response equipment.
 
     The Keene Fire Department was able to buy a new fire truck and extrication tools for getting people out of crashed vehicles with the help of McKenzie County, a state grant and donations from oil companies.
 
  Fire officials reached out to about 100 oil companies, and 20 responded with a total of about $52,000 – about one-third of the cost of the upgrades.
 
     Fire Chief John Rolfsrud says his department is in the process of getting firefighters certified to use the new tools.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House is criticizing lawmakers who oppose legislation to tighten gun laws, and it says President Barack Obama is continuing to push the cause in the wake of the Washington Navy Yard shooting. White House press secretary Jay Carney says lawmakers who oppose expanded background checks for gun sales are taking cues from “a narrow special interest” instead of serving their constituents.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House later this month. The meeting marks their first face-to-face talks since March, when the U.S. president visited Israel. Obama’s trip was followed by a restart in peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. The White House says Obama and Netanyahu will discuss the peace talks, Iran, Syria and other regional issues.

 
     TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) – Authorities say a massive boardwalk fire in New Jersey was accidental, and they have linked it to electrical wiring and equipment they say was compromised by Superstorm Sandy nearly a year ago. The announcement comes five days after the fire destroyed more than 50 boardwalk businesses in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights. Investigators say the fire started under a building that housed a candy store and an ice cream stand.
 
     CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Defense attorneys say that a North Carolina police officer was justified in shooting an unarmed man who apparently was seeking help when he approached officers after a car crash in Charlotte. Lawyers representing Officer Randall Kerrick were in court Tuesday for a first appearance on the charge of voluntary manslaughter. Authorities say Kerrick shot Jonathan Ferrell 10 times early Saturday after the 24-year-old was in a single-car wreck and sought help at a nearby house.  Police say Ferrell advanced on officers and wasn’t stopped by a Taser.
 
     SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) – A mother charged with killing her two children has asked a California judge for the death penalty. Marilyn Edge appeared by video Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court to be arraigned on two counts of murder following her arrest over the weekend. Edge was involved in a custody dispute and had been ordered to return her son and daughter to their father in Georgia. They were found dead in a Santa Ana hotel room on Saturday.
