Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 16, 2013) – With the Jamestown sanitary sewer project, Interstate Engineering reports Starting today, Tuesday Sept 17, 2013

2nd St SW is now closed from 4th Ave SW to the river. Drivers need to use detour to 1st St West bridge to access the Klaus Park area of SW Jamestown.

A section of 2nd St SW that crosses the James River is closed. The bridge over the James River is closed as well during this time.

Work is expected to last for about two weeks. Drivers can continue to access CSi Technology Center at Historic Franklin by using the east entrance from 3rd Ave SW.

3rd Street SE will close from 9th Avenue SE to Railroad Drive E. A detour will be in place on Railroad Drive E and 7th Avenue NE.

12th Avenue SE will also close later Tuesday from 3rd Street SE to 5th Street SE.

At this time, these closures are anticipated to be in place until later this week.

Drivers are also advised that starting this week, crews are working in the area of 17th St SE and 19th Ave SE. The intersection will remain open during this time. Work is expected to last for about one week.

3rd Street SE, from 9th Avenue SE to 12th Avenue SE, is open to traffic. Temporary surfacing is in place. Drivers should be aware that traffic has been moved to the north side of the street in this area.

In addition, 12th Avenue SE is open to traffic from 3rd Street SE to 5th Street SE.

Interstate Engineering reports that visitors needing wheelchair access to the Jamestown Business Center should use the east entrance and park in the east parking lot until the end of next week.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Set 17, 2013) — The City of Jamestown has scheduled a Land Use and Transportation Plan Public Presentation.

The public is invited to attend the Workshop, Informational meeting and Formal Presentation of the Land Use and Transportation Plan for the City of Jamestown,

on Monday, September 23, 2013, Jamestown Civic Center – Exchequer Room.

Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for displays.

5:30 pm – 7:00 p.m. – Presentation by RDG Planning & Design.

Then, on Tuesday September 24, 2013 at 5-p.m., at City Hall, there will be a joint meeting of the Jamestown City Council, and the Jamestown City Planning Commission, to initalize the Land Use and Transportation Plan.

The joint panel will obtain comments and concerns from the City Council and Planning Commission members.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown Public School Board Tuesday (Sept 17, 2013) voted in favor of Jamestown Public Schools providing Talented and Gifted Program services to St. John’s Academy.

In the 7-2 vote, board members Roy Musland and Gail Martin opposed the partnership.

The one-year pilot program,has Jamestown Public Schools providing TAG to St. John’s for the remainder of this school year at no cost.

Providing TAG to St. John’s will not bring extra costs to JPS.

Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent, Robert Lech said, if the pilot program is successful there would be a discussion of shared cost for the program.

It was reported that the school district is reducing the mill rate by 50 mills, reducing the rate from 155.4 mills to about 105 mills.

For the 2013 tax year, a $100,000 home in Jamestown would have paid about $1,937.

The 2014 tax statements for a $100,000 home, commonly mailed out in December, would show a total property tax of about $1,500. The meeting was recorded by the CSi REPLAY CHANNEL 10, with the showing starting later Wednesday.

 

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 17, 2013) — St. John’s Academy at Zebedee Center will host the 23rd Annual, HOPE Dinner and Auction on Saturday October 5, 2013.

Guests on Tuesday’s (Sept. 17, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, included the Chairperson Erin Romans, and St. John’s Academy’s Development Coordinator, Peggy Etzold.

Ms. Romans pointed that HOPE stands for Help Offer Private Education, noting that several sponsors help make the event possible, and others who contribution items to the live and silent auctions.

This year’s theme is “Diamonds Are Forever.”

The Social starts at 5-p.m, with dinner at 6:30.

She added that St. John’s Academy students including pre-schoolers are making items to be auctioned, plus second graders will be entertaining and sixth grade students will be helping out in addition to making an item from a window frame.

Orr Auctioneers will provide the auction services.

She noted that 200 auction items have been donated, including 40 items in the live auction.

Aramark Food Service will cater the meal of beef tenderloin and all the trimmings.

Ms. Etzold said tickets are $75 each, and can be purchased from herself or Erin Romans or by calling St. John’s Academy at 252-3397. She suggests reservations be made earlier as the event typically sells out.

Following the dinner and auction an after event will take place at the Jamestown Elks Club.

All Drivers License offices statewide will be closed from Wednesday, September 25 through Friday, September 27. The closure will allow North Dakota Department of Transportation Drivers License employees to attend annual training sessions.

One exception to this will be the Drivers License site located at 608 East Boulevard Ave. in Bismarck, which will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25.

Motor Vehicle offices will remain open as scheduled, and will process vehicle registrations, vehicle titles, vehicle license plates and tabs, and associated work as usual. Seat belts save lives.

 WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities in Williams County in northwestern North Dakota are searching for a suspect in a shooting.
 
     The sheriff’s office says a 42-year-old man from Idaho was shot twice about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities say the man is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
 
     The sheriff’s office did not immediately release details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo police say an employee at a liquor store went to the hospital after being robbed.
 
     Authorities say a man walked into Steve’s Package Store late Tuesday, demanded money, and got into a fight with the employee. police have not said how much money the robber took.
 
     The employee suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A man was arrested after neighbors of a south Fargo neighborhood reported that they heard gunshots.
 
     Police Lt. Joel Vettel says residents also reported hearing a woman screaming around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
 
     Officers surrounded a house that was apparently converted into an apartment building and contacted a man inside by phone. He came outside after about 15 to 20 minutes and was taken into custody.
 
     No one appeared to be injured.
 
     Vettel says at least two people were involved, the man and a woman, and he says it appeared to be a domestic dispute but investigators were still piecing together what happened.

 

  FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo man has acknowledged killing his wife and trying to make it look like a suicide.
 
     Authorities say 47-year-old Ronald William Rogers Jr. shot 40-year-old Elizabeth Rogers to death Feb. 19 and placed a pistol in her hand.
 
     Rogers has pleaded guilty to the Class AA felony charge of murder and a misdemeanor count of willfully disturbing a dead body.
 
     His trial scheduled for next week was canceled.
 
     Rogers will be sentenced after a presentence investigation is done. He faces up to life in prison without parole.
 
     Defense attorney Ross Brandborg says the plea will allow Rogers to appeal several rulings on evidence that could result in a new trial or an eventual change in sentence.
 

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – An FBI forensic examiner says DNA from murder suspect Valentino Bagola was found underneath the fingernails of one of the two children he’s accused of murdering on the Spirit Lake Reservation.

Bagola is on trial in Fargo in the May 2011 deaths of 9-year-old Destiny Shaw-DuBois and her 6-year-old brother, Travis DuBois Jr. Authorities allege Bagola stabbed the two children to death after sexually assaulting the girl. His defense claims the children’s father confessed to the killings.

FBI examiner Chastity Davis testified Tuesday that the girl’s DNA likely got underneath Bagola’s fingernails through scratching. But Davis also said she could not rule out casual contact.

Davis also said Bagola’s DNA was not found on knives that authorities believe to be the murder weapons.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department is suspending further sales of deer hunting licenses because of an outbreak of a deer disease commonly known as EHD.
 
     That stands for epizootic hemorrhagic disease. Game and Fish Wildlife Chief Randy Kreil (kryl) says the agency is receiving reports of EHD deaths in the southwestern part of the state, and the 1,000 doe licenses still available won’t be issued.
 
     It’s not the first outbreak. In 2011, deer deaths from EHD prompted Game and Fish to suspend license sales and offer refunds to 13,000 license holders in several southwestern hunting units.
 
     Kreil says it’s too early to know whether this year’s outbreak is bad enough to warrant a similar action. A decision won’t be made until mid-October.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The owner of a Fargo bridal salon that closed unexpectedly last month has been sued by her landlord for nearly $49,000 in rent.
 
     The lawsuit filed in Cass County by Agassiz Square also wants to evict the business known as The Bridal Shop.
 
   Shop owner Gretchen Ingbretson signed a 15-year lease with Agassiz Square after taking over the business from a family member in 2008.
 
     Ingbretson could not be reached for comment.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – New Census figures show that North Dakota’s poverty rate is below the national average.
 
     About 11.4 percent of the state’s residents were below the poverty line in 2012, which is the 13th-lowest rate among states and lower than the national average of 15 percent.
 
     About 14.1 percent of the state’s population saw income that was less than 125 percent of poverty level, which gives North Dakota the seventh–lowest rate among the states. The national average is 19.7 percent.
 
     Mississippi has the highest rate of poverty, while New Hampshire has the lowest.

 

  BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A company in Canada and one in Texas have extended an agreement to feed natural gas from North Dakota’s oil patch into an existing pipeline that moves gas to Chicago.
 
     Calgary-based Aux Sable Midstream LLC and Summit Midstream Partners LP of Dallas say up to 25 million cubic feet of natural gas daily will be sent from Burke and Mountrail counties, along a 2,300-mile pipeline system. The system extends from western Canada to the Chicago hub, where the gas is sold to Midwest and East Coast markets.
 
     Officials say about 17 million cubic feet of natural gas is being shipped daily right now.
 
     Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the deal between the companies helps curb the practice of burning natural gas as an unmarketable product of oil production.
 

  WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – The city of Williston has denied a permit to allow homeless people to stay at a local church.
 
     Planning and zoning director Kent Jarcki says  the Concordia Lutheran Church does not meet fire and safety codes to be used as a residence.
 
     Pastor Jay Reinke declined to comment on the issue.
 
     Williston does not have a homeless shelter.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Mary Muehlen Maring says she plans to stay active in the judicial system but would just like a little more flexibility in her schedule.
 
     North Dakota’s second female Supreme Court justice announced Tuesday she’ll retire from the state’s highest bench at the end of 2013 with four years remaining on her 10-year term.
 
     The 62-year-old told The Associated Press she hopes to fill in for justices who have to recuse themselves from a case, do some mediation at the district and appellate level and perhaps teach part-time.
 
     During her tenure as a justice, she authored more than 700 opinions.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Ground has been broken for another high school in Bismarck.
 
     Legacy High is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015. The Bismarck Tribune reports that officials gathered this week to launch construction of the $58 million facility.
 
     Legacy students right now are attending classes at the Career Academy and at Bismarck State College. They are all ninth-graders.

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – ESPN says it will host Saturday’s College GameDay show in front of the historic Fargo Theatre in the city’s downtown. North Dakota State hosting Delaware State will be the fourth-ever Football Championship Subdivision matchup featured on the show. Many fans wanted the show near NDSU’s indoor football stadium and tailgating area. ESPN officials say downtown will show the school, city and state in the best light.

 CHICAGO (AP) – Jose Quintana pitched six effective innings as the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 last night. Quintana won for the first time since he last faced the Twins. He allowed one run while scattering eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Twins starter Mike Pelfrey allowed three runs on nine hits.

The Texas Rangers ended a seven-game skid and moved back into a tie with Tampa Bay for the two AL wild-card berths by whipping the Rays 7-1. The outcome reduced Boston’s magic number to clinch the AL East to three and puts Cleveland within a half-game of the wild-card co-leaders.

SUPER BOWL-TICKETS
 
 
     NEW YORK (AP) –   The NFL says the highest-priced tickets for this season’s Super Bowl will be about $2,600 each for 9,000 premium seats for the Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. That’s more than twice the $1,250 cost for similar tickets at last year’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.
 
     The next tier of seats is expected to go for $1,500 compared to $950 in New Orleans. A league spokesman says 40 percent of general admission seats will be under $1,000.

     UNDATED (AP) – Three-time U.S. champion figure skater Johnny Weir will not be competing at the Sochi (SOH’-chee) Olympics, likely bringing an end to his amateur career. U.S. Figure Skating has confirmed that Weir did not register for the qualifiers for the national championships, where the Olympic team will be selected. The deadline to register was Sept. 1.

 LYONS, Colo. (AP) – Locating people still unaccounted for has become the focus of rescuers in a flood-ravaged part of Colorado. Officials say the number is still in the hundreds. Receding water is revealing toppled homes, buckled highways and fields of tangled debris. Officials say calls for emergency rescues have decreased.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – Investigators are still plumbing for a motive in the Washington Navy Yard shootings that killed 12 people. Officials say they’ve discovered the gunman was treated for mental health issues and complained of hearing voices. Official reviews have begun of the process and criteria for security clearances. Aaron Alexis retained his despite some issues that led to his leaving the Navy.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama continues efforts to sell his economic agenda today as he speaks to some of the nation’s top corporate executives at the Business Roundtable. Obama faces a tough budget showdown on Capitol hill and he continues to caution Republicans not to precipitate a government shutdown or an unprecedented debt default.
 
     UNDATED (AP) – The parade continues of corporations shifting the way they provide worker health care. Drugstore chain Walgreen will become the latest big employer to send its workers shopping the exchanges for their health insurance instead of providing a few choices for them. Walgreen’s says it will start giving workers a contribution toward the cost of coverage and then send them to a private health insurance exchange. The chain says workers will pick from as many as 25 plans.
 
     BEIJING (AP) – A Chinese astronaut says China is willing to open its future space station to foreign astronauts and even train them for such missions. China’s first man in space, Yang Liwei (yahng lee-way), was quoted by the official China Daily newspaper today. China plans a permanent space station in about seven years.
