On Wednesday’s (Sept. 18, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Josh’s aunt Carolyn Schrenk of Jamestown said, on July 11, 2013 Josh was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia. He was hospitalized right away at the Roger Maris Cancer Center, in Fargo, and started a very aggressive chemotherapy regimen. He was most recently employed at the James River Correctional Center. His wife Laura is employed at the Anne Carlsen Center, as a Registered Nurse. Ms. Schrenk added that the Anne Carlsen Center has allowed Laura time off to care for Josh.

He has recently learned that he will need to undergo three additional rounds of the same intense chemotherapy , which will hospitalize him until January, when they will learn if he will need to have a bone marrow transplant.

The funds that are received will help defer the medical costs and travel expenses.

Matching funds up to $2,500 from Modern Woodman.

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 18, 2013) — The Valley City Public School Board, and Valley City Education Association are at impasse in the current negotiations.

The next step is a Public Hearing with a state Fact Finding Committee in October.

The two parties are at odds over a salary base increase of $200 for incoming teachers, health insurance funding formula method, paying teachers for unused sick leave upon retirement plus a salary step increase for teachers who received an advanced education degree.

The School Board Advisory committee feels that with the interim fund sitting at 6.5 percent, now is not the time to approve any salary increases.

Valley City Education Association spokeswoman Kathy Lentz says the mediation report released this month points out the VCEA’s continued compromise and confirms that the Valley City School board had no intention to negotiate with the teachers.

The school board’s legal counsel has advised the board and the school superintendent not to comment on the negotiated agreement process until the state fact finding hearing in October.

Authorities allege Hicks admitted to killing Sage after Sage tried to sexually assault him. Authorities found Sage’s vehicle engulfed in flames, with his body inside burned beyond recognition.

In world and national news…

NEW YORK (AP) – Stock suddenly surged higher Wednesday, after trading lower for most of the day. Investors are delighted to hear that the Federal Reserve has decided against reducing its stimulus for the U.S. economy — at least, for now. Policy-makers decided Wednesday that the Fed will keep buying $85 billion a month in bonds, because it thinks the economy still needs the support. The news sent the Dow industrials more than 100 points higher, to a record-high level.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Federal Reserve is downgrading its outlook for economic growth this year and next. A statement at the end of a two-day meeting says the economy is growing moderately, and that some indicators of the job market have shown improvement. But it noted that rising mortgage rates and government spending cuts are restraining growth. The Fed says it will maintain the pace of its bond purchases while it awaits conclusive evidence that the economy will strengthen.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says “there were a lot of red flags” that may have been missed in the background of Aaron Alexis, who killed 12 people Monday at the Washington Navy Yard. And he says investigators will be looking at why they didn’t get picked up in the process of giving Alexis security clearance. He’s ordering two reviews of military security and employee screening programs. But Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, says he still believes that those who have served in the military shouldn’t be stigmatized by having to answer questions about their mental health status.

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) – The driver of a double-decker bus is among six people killed after the bus collided with a passenger train Wednesday in the Canadian capital of Ottawa. All six of the dead were on the bus. Officials say 30 people were hurt, including 10 with critical injuries. There were no major injuries among passengers and crew on the train. Witnesses said the bus went through a closed crossing barrier. Passengers say they screamed for the driver to stop, just before the bus plowed into the side of the train.

ELLENWOOD, Ga. (AP) – Police say two suspects are in custody, in the abduction of a 14-year-old Atlanta-area girl who has now been found alive. Ayvani Perez had been taken from her home early Tuesday by robbers who police say broke in and demanded money and jewelry. When they were told that there wasn’t any, they shot and killed the family dog and abducted the girl. The FBI says the two men who are in custody aren’t the suspects who appeared in police sketches. Authorities are still looking for tips about those two men.
