Bismarck, N.D. (KFYR) – North Dakota’s Industrial Commission awarded a $125 million loan for the development of a fertilizer plant near Jamestown.
Originally, the commission approved $50 million for the project, with $75 million to go to the Prairie Horizon Hydrogen facility in Stark County, but they declined the offer.
Prairie Horizon is a joint project between Marathon Petroleum and TC Energy.
The proposed spot for the NextEra Energy facility is near the Spiritwood Energy Park and would create 100,000 tons of ammonia a year.
The funding comes from a state House funding bill, designed to support projects that manufacture fertilizer through hydrogen electrolysis. It’s expected to cost nearly $1.3 billion.
