SIOUX CENTER, Iowa– The University of Jamestown baseball finished a weekend sweep of Dordt University Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Great Plains Athletic Conference action. The Jimmies won by scores of 7-1 and 12-4.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • A two-run error accounted for Jamestown’s first runs in the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jackson Bonneville hit a ground ball to shortstop, but the throw was wild, with Jett Nelson and Hayden Brown coming in to score.
  • The Jimmies tacked on three more runs an inning later. Brown singled to left, bringing in Chase Burke, then Nelson followed with a double to center, scoring Jordan Singleton and moving Brown to third. One out later, a wild pitch allowed Brown to cross the plate, making it 5-0.
  • Dordt got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the fourth, and the score remained 5-1 until the top of the seventh. Singleton extended his RBI streak to four games with a single to score Burke, then pinch-runner Sy Steele later scored on a groundout by Ryan Muizelaar.
  • Avery Liestman pitched 5 2/3 innings and improved to 3-0 this season. He struck out three and walked three while giving up one run on four hits.
  • Burke and Brown both had two hits while Triston Madison was credited with a pair of sacrifice bunts.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • A six-run fourth inning gave Jamestown an 8-2 lead and they went on for a 12-4 win in game two.
  • Jackson Bonneville drove in two runs with a single in the top of the second, but the Defenders would tie the game in the bottom of the third.
  • Jordan Singleton and Hayden Brown each singled to start the fourth, then Jett Nelson walked to load the bases. Ryan Muizelaar then singled to break the tie and keep the bases full.
  • One out later, Isaiah Roebuck extended UJ’s lead with a single to center to make it 4-2.
  • Following a Defender pitching change, Alex Alva singled to right field, scoring Nelson and Muizelaar. An error by the right fielder enabled Roebuck to come home and Alva to move up to third base.
  • Chase Burke‘s sacrifice fly drove in Alva and the UJ lead increased to 8-2.
  • A Defender error in the top of the sixth led to another Jimmie run, making it 9-2.
  • Dordt scored once in the bottom of the sixth, but Jamestown came back with two more in the seventh. Alva’s double scored Bonneville and Julian Sansores as the Jimmies had their biggest lead of the game to that point.
  • RJ Woods drove in the final run for UJ with a pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth.
  • Jack Howard (3-1) pitched six innings for the win, striking out five and allowing just one earned run on seven hits.
  • Alva finished with four hits, including a pair of doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored. Bonneville and Roebuck each had a pair of hits.
