Jamestown – The Jamestown Parks and Recreation District is excited to announce the launch of it’s Adopt-A-Park/Trail Program. This initiative seeks to engage the community in preserving and enhancing Jamestown’s cherished green spaces.
The Adopt-A-Park program invites residents, businesses, community organizations, church groups and more to take an active role in maintaining and beautifying our parks. Participants in the program commit to regular clean-up efforts, removing litter and debris, assisting with minor repairs and improvements and identifying and reporting safety hazards to the Parks and Recreation District. In return, adopters receive recognition for their contributions at their respective park, fostering a sense of pride and ownership in our public spaces. Gate City Bank, a park adoptee states, “At Gate City Bank we are committed to investing in our communities and giving back through volunteerism. The adopt a park program fits perfectly into our mission and has been a fun way for us to get outside and give back to our community. By maintaining our parks cleanliness we hope to invite and encourage our community to enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities that parks can provide. The Gate City Bank team has enjoyed keeping Nickeus park clean for the public this summer and we look forward to continuing our efforts in the future.”
Jamestown Parks and Recreation offers a total of 20 adoptable parks, trails and facilities. “Parks are the heart of our community, providing spaces for recreation, relaxation and connection with nature,” said JPRD Executive Director, Amy Walters. “We believe that by working together, we can ensure these vital resources are well-maintained and enjoyable for everyone.
Three parks are currently adopted: Meidinger Park is adopted by the High Plains Association of Realtors(HPAR), Nickeus Park is adopted by Gate City Bank and the McElroy Park Flower Beds are adopted by Daydreams and Bar V Ranch. The HPAR Membership Involvement Committee states “High Plains Association of REALTORS is excited to be partnering with Jamestown Parks and Rec Adopt-A-Park! This program gives our members and business partners an opportunity to work together to help beautify our parks and show our commitment to the community of Jamestown. We really enjoyed providing the landscaping project around the sign at Meidinger Park this Spring. It looks so beautiful!”
Jill Trygg is one of the volunteers that upkeeps the McElroy Park Flower Beds, she says “It’s important to me that Jamestown looks it’s best for both residents and visitors and by volunteering with JPRD Adopt-a-Park program, I can help accomplish this, while doing something I enjoy. Community parks are the heartbeat of our community – it’s where all the action takes place, especially this time of year. Pitching in to keep these areas clean, safe, and beautiful benefits everyone.”
Jamestown Parks and Recreation District encourages all residents to consider adopting a park or trail and take an active role in enhancing our city’s green spaces. Together, we can cultivate a culture of stewardship, foster a sense of community pride and preserve our outdoor destinations for generations to come.
