Jamestown – An off-duty Jamestown Police Officer reported hearing gunshots in a Southeast Jamestown neighborhood, 09/11/2024, at approximately 0103 hrs.

Additional reports of the incident were called in shortly after the shots were fired. Officers responded to the area.

Upon arrival, Officers located a parked and unoccupied motor vehicle in the 1400 block of 6 Ave SE with bullet holes in it. The vehicle was identified as a late model Buick SUV and officers discovered multiple rounds had been fired into the vehicle. A search of the area showed there were no other vehicles shot. Surrounding homes, near where the targeted vehicle was parked, were occupied at the time of the shooting. No one was injured during the shooting.

Further investigation and evidence collection established a suspect and suspect vehicle. Jamestown Police enlisted the assistance of the Valley City Police Department and Barnes County Sheriff’s office to try and locate the whereabouts of the suspect.

Just before 9am, Jamestown Police located and detained the suspect for questioning. Search warrants were conducted to assist locating additional evidence to this crime.

The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Mikah Alan Striefel of Jamestown. Striefel was arrested on suspicion of Felony Reckless Endangerment, Felony Criminal Mischief, and Unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits. Striefel also has ties to the Valley City area. He was taken to the Stutsman County Correctional Center to await formal charges.
