Jamestown — The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team was victorious in its home opener Sunday afternoon, ending a three-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over University of Minnesota-Crookston at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jamestown dominated possession in the opening stages of the match. UJ took seven shots and won four corner kicks before finally breaking through in the 21st minute.
  • Haley Nelson‘s first goal as a Jimmie came on a pass from Hillary Hernandez and put UJ ahead 1-0.
  • The first half ended with Jamestown ahead 1-0, having outshot the Golden Eagles 10-2 overall (4-0 on target).
  • Just under three minutes into the second half, Sidney Mikes doubled the Jimmies’ lead with her second goal of the season. Alyssa Caton‘s pass looked to be headed across the end line, but Mikes ran it down and fired off a shot that hit just inside the left post.
  • Gaby Sarkis put the game away for Jamestown in the 77th minute with her fourth goal of the year. Sarkis deked her defender and created an advantageous angle to take a 10-yard shot towards the left side of the net.
  • Allyson Johnson turned away both of the shots on target she faced.
  • Shots ended 17-5 (7-2 on goal) in favor of Jamestown.
