Jamestown, ND — The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office reports a 78-year-old man was brought to Jamestown Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries after an accident on N.D. Highway 20 at 7:38 p.m.
78 year old Reuben Liechty, of Jamestown, was operating his pickup south on N.D. 20 near mile marker 6, when the vehicle left the roadway, entered the ditch and into a field, where the vehicle rolled over.
Jamestown Area Ambulance Service transported Liechty to JRMC. The North Dakota Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
Liechty was cited for care required.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V.) — The Jamestown City Fire Department was called out about 2:40-p.m., on Thursday (Oct 3, 2013) at 1813 Highway 281 North, at the Melland Addition.
Black smoke was reported coming from a shed in the rear of the property.
When the fire units arrived they discovered an individual was burning refuse behind the shed.
The units returned to the city fire station.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP Oct 4, 2013) – Bond was set Thursday for former Valley City State student 21-year-old Cedric Chappell Jr., who is accused of killing one man and injuring another in a shooting last weekend in Minneapolis.
Chappell did not waive his extradition back to Minnesota following the bond hearing in Valley City.
Barnes County State’s Attorney Lee Grossman says Judge John Paulson set Chappell’s bail at one million dollars.
A Valley City State University spokesman says the arrest of Chappell, one of the North Dakota school’s football players in a Minnesota murder case was a surprise.
Valley City State University spokesman Greg Vanney tells the Grand Forks Herald that no “red flags” were raised during Chappell’s time at the school. Vanney also says Chappell did not cause any problems when he previously was at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.
Chappell attended the college in Wahpeton for about two years before transferring to Valley City.
Chappell was arrested Tuesday on campus at Valley City State University. He is charged in Hennepin County, Minn., with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for fatally shooting a man and wounding another outside a Minneapolis bar over the weekend.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 4, 2013) — A Jamestown man has been bound over for trial, charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
49 year old Said Ahmed Muse of Jamestown waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Southeast District Court, on Thursday.
Muse has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Muse, is accused of using a large knife or machete in an attack on 26 year old Abdirizak Nur in an incident that occurred in Jamestown on June 8.
Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger says, Abdirizak, was treated for a deep cut to the left bicep and cuts to the hand. He says Muse and Abdirizak were acquainted.
The case will now be scheduled for a jury trial.
Muse remains in custody on $100,000 bond.
The attempted murder charge is a Class A felony while aggravated assault is a Class C felony.
A Class A felony is punishable by 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Attempted murder has a minimum penalty of four years in prison. A Class C felony is punishable by five years in prison and $5,000 fine. The criminal complaint also indicates Muse may be deported if found guilty.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 3, 2013) — The Jamestown Police Department is warning Jamestown residents regarding a convicted sex offender who has changed addresses.
The reports says, 35 year old Jayme Joseph Rowley now resides at 219 7th Avenue, N.E., in Jamestown, apartment number 2.
His vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Dakota, North Dakota license plate LIVNPRF.
Rowley is a white male 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.
The report says Rowley has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota Risk Level Committee of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
Rowley was convicted of Gross Sexual Imposition involving a adult female, with the conviction date of October 11, 2006 in Burleigh County District Court.
Disposition: 10 years with 6 years and 6 months suspended.
He was convicted of surreptitious intrusion, on December 14, 2004 in Burleigh County District Court.
Disposition: 6 and a half years, with all but 2 years suspended, 5 years supervised probation.
Rowley is currently on probation with North Dakota Parole and Probation and has been placed on GPS monitoring.
Rowley is not wanted by police at this time, and is currently serving the sentence imposed by the court.
This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used threaten, assault or intimidate the offender.
Attempts to harass, intimidate, or threaten these offenders or their families, landlords or employers will be turned over for prosecution.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 2, 2013) — The new Executive Director, at the James River Family Y, in Jamestown says, the facility has had several changes over the past few month.
On Thursday’s (Oct 3, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Frank Conlin said he started his new position on August 1st this year.
He pointed out that the Nautilus Room, at the Y, has been moved into a climate controlled area. He added that the Fitness on Demand program also has a climate controlled room, with the workout, dialed up on computers.
Signups are going on for the Fall 2 Session at the Y, with brochures at the front desk.
Coming up is the Mighty Mites youth basketball, along with youth soccer, and volleyball, along with swimming lessons and adult classes and leagues.
Conlin added that Ocotber 19, 2013 is the 3-on-3 basketball tournament for youth in grades 5,6,7, and 8, with registration now being accepted.
He noted that the Y’s Learning Center, has about 100 pre-schoolers enrolled.
This year the Y’s Halloween Party is set for Friday October 25, 2013 at the Y, from 5:30 p.m., to 8-p.m.

Frank Conlin comes to the Y’s Executive Director’s position after spending several years in education as an English teacher, and coach.
He had been in education for 32 years, including 28 years at Jamestown High School, including 20 years as the Blue Jays Head Football Coach, and a track and field coach for 32 years, 18 of which were the Jays track and field coach.
Jamestown, ND (KCS-T.V. News Oct 3, 2013) — Jamestown City Forester Doug Wiles says, the City of Jamestown crews will be clearing alleyways, and overhanging tree and shrub branches.
He says, it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain trees and shrubbery. When this responsibility is neglected, it becomes the duty of the City to clear overgrowth that threatens public safety. In some cases, the only answer is removal of the tree or shrub. This is a clearance procedure and should not be mistaken for a complete pruning of the tree. If a complete pruning is needed, have your trees pruned by a City licensed local tree service.
The City Street Department Crews along with the City Forester will be conducting annual tree branch clearing in the Northeast section of the city beginning October 21, 2013, weather permitting. Once the Northeast is finished Street Dept. Crews will then move to the Southeast section of the city. Tree and shrub branches that are overhanging streets and alleys in these areas will be removed to prevent interference with traffic and City maintenance equipment in accordance with City Ordinances

Bottineau, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) – Fourteen Trees Award winners from across the state will be recognized at the Trees Bowl and Awards Ceremony sponsored by the North Dakota Forest Service and North Dakota State University at the Fargodome on Saturday, October 5, 2013.
The Trees Awards recognize individuals, organizations and agencies who contribute in an outstanding way to forestry activities. Forestry activities can include: fire mitigation, protection and suppression; tree planting, preservation, or maintenance; community forestry efforts; forest management practices; forest recreation; or environmental education.
The winners will participate in a ceremonial tree planting at 11:30 a.m., which will be followed by a noon luncheon and the awards ceremony in the Fargodome at 1 p.m. NDSU President Dean Bresciani and State Forester Larry Kotchman will present each winner with a plaque and a tree print. The winners will also attend the Trees Bowl football game at 2:30 p.m. and be recognized on the floor during half-time. The North Dakota Forest Service will distribute 3,000 Scotch pine and bur oak trees after the game.
A 2013 award winners includes The Volunteer Organization Award, going to the Jamestown Lions Club.
Valley City, ND (KCSI-T.V. News) — VCSU will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the renovated and expanded L.D. Rhoades Science Center on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.
Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley and state and local officials will perform the dedication. The Center underwent a $10.3 million renovation and expansion as appropriated by the 2011 state legislature. The facility houses the Great Plains STEM Education Center, math, science, technology, engineering, health and physical education, as well as VCSU’s Information Technology Center. There is also general classroom space, a greenhouse, a planetarium, and laboratories.
The 27,000 sq. ft. expansion was put into service in January 2013, and the 33,000 sq. ft. renovation of existing space was completed in August 2013.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include remarks by Steven W. Shirley, VCSU president; Wrigley; Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota superintendent of public instruction and VCSU alumna; and Ray Holmberg, North Dakota District 17 state senator and chair of the appropriations committee.
Also speaking will be Joe Stickler, VCSU professor emeritus of science; Erika Schumacher, VCSU alumna and Dickinson veterinarian; and Larry Robinson, VCSU alumnus and executive director of university advancement, and North Dakota District 24 state senator.
The open house following the ribbon cutting will include refreshments, tours of the building, demonstrations, and classroom offerings.
Tours of Rhoades Science Center will also be available during an open house Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The project, supported by the State Board of Higher Education, Governor Jack Dalrymple, and the North Dakota Legislature, was funded by a $10.3 million appropriation in the 2011 North Dakota legislative session.
The first capital construction project for an academic facility at VCSU in 40 years, the construction and renovation of Rhoades Science Center was delivered on time and at budget. The building features a new heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system, along with new mechanical and electrical systems.
To the extent possible, the design and construction of the Rhoades addition and renovation followed standards set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). VCSU has applied for and is anticipating LEED certification for the building.
Construction and design on Rhoades Science Center was done by the following firms: JLG Architects (architect); JP Structures, Inc. (general contractor); Midwest Mechanical Construction LLC (mechanical contractor); Dakota Electric Construction Company Inc. (electrical contractor); Innovative Laboratory Systems, Inc. (laboratory design consultant); Kadrmas, Lee, & Jackson (civil engineer); Heyer Engineering, Inc. (structural engineer); Obermiller Nelson Engineering (mechanical engineer); Ulteig Engineers (electrical engineer); and Land Elements (landscape architect).
Rhoades Science Center is named for L.D. “Dusty” Rhoades, who taught chemistry and physics at VCSU from 1919 to 1961.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Jamestown area message therapists and reflexologists will offer a 10 minute stress-reducing massages which will also support the Community Action, Region Six, Weekend Backpack Program for children.
For a minimum $10 donation, individuals will receive the massage to help them deal with stress, increase their productivity and improve their health.
The day-long event is being held in observance of National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, a national program sponsored by the American Massage Therapy Association, the professional association for massage therpists.
At the local level, all proceeds will go to the Community Action, Region Six Weekend Backpack Program.
The event takes place on Thursday October 24, 2013 from 10-a.m., to 5-p.m., at the Jamestown Business Center.
The Weekend Backpack Program provides the necessary nutrition a growing child needs through its nutritious well balanced snacks and meals.
Otherwise, to become a “backpack buddy,” a donation of $15 will help fill one child’s backpack for the weekend.
Also an individual may become a program volunteer, or donate specific food items, or donate a backpack.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – U.S. marshals say they arrested a woman on a federal warrant after she led them on a chase through three counties that ended with a car fire.
Authorities say 40-year-old Kelly Touche Redroad was wanted for a supervised release violation stemming from a conviction for conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
officers from multiple agencies followed Redroad on Wednesday from Morton County west on Interstate 94 and north on Highway 31.
After officers flattened her tires, she drove a while on the rims but eventually stopped.
Authorities say Redroad threatened to cut herself with a knife and held down the accelerator until the vehicle overheated and caught fire.
Officers then forced her out of the vehicle and arrested her.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Bismarck Police Department’s bomb squad says an unattended backpack left near the North Dakota Republican headquarters contained only clothing and other personal items.
police got a report of the unattended backpack Thursday morning. Police say “the caller felt that due to the federal government shutdown and the vicinity in which the bag was left it should be checked by police.”
Police say the traffic was prohibited in the area while bomb squad members checked out the backpack.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck police say young child was killed when a television fell on him.
Officer Pat Renz says the 21-month-old boy was taken to a Bismarck emergency room late Wednesday afternoon, where he was pronounced dead.
A police report says the child might have tipped the television over on himself.
The report did not indicate the size of the TV.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Prosecutors handling the death penalty appeal by a man convicted of killing a University of North Dakota student will have more time to respond because of the government shutdown.
The government originally had an Oct. 15 deadline to respond to Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., convicted in 2005 of raping and stabbing Dru Sjodin (shuh-DEEN’), of Pequot Lakes, Minn.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson on Thursday extended that to Dec. 15.
Defense attorneys in October 2011 filed a 298-page appeal that claims, among other things, that Rodriguez is mentally disabled and his lawyers did a poor job of defending him.
Prosecutors say attorneys and others in the U.S. attorney’s office have been hampered by the shutdown and support staff has not been working.
Rodriquez’s attorneys did not object to the extension.
GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) – Voters in the Grafton Public School District have approved a plan to build a new middle school to handle increased enrollment.
The measure was approved by a vote of 687 to 177, exceeding the 60 percent needed to approve it.
The $19 million school project will be paid in part with existing capital and through increased efficiencies by having the elementary, middle and high schools under one roof.
The remaining $14 million will be funded by a bond levy, though property taxes would still decrease because of a change made by the Legislature.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – One of the people showing off his skills this week at the Norsk Hostfest in Minot gave up an engineering career for knife making.
Norway native Kjetil Groven says he left engineering because he wasn’t able to work with his hands.
He says he worked in carpentry and log home building before settling on blacksmithing in Rapid City, S.D.
Groven came to the United States in 1999 and now makes his living forging hand-crafted blades, latches and door handles. He also does woodwork, such as making wooden cabinets.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Top-ranked North Dakota State and No. 4 Northern Iowa are set to square off in a matchup of unbeaten teams in the Football Championship Subdivision.
But don’t call them rivals.
The Bison have taken over the lead role from the Panthers in the Missouri Valley Football Conference the last two years. UNI has won more league titles than any other team. NDSU has won back-to-back national championships.
Panthers coach Mark Farley says he’s tries to shy away from the word rival, but calls NDSU “the ultimate challenge right now.”
NDSU coach Craig Bohl says the UNI contest has been probably “the most heated game” for his team in the last few years.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Fargo.

ATLANTA (AP) – The L.A Dodgers took the opener of their NL division series by dominating the Atlanta Braves 6-1 behind a masterful pitching performance by Clayton Kershaw, the majors’ ERA leader in the regular season. Kershaw mowed down the Braves for seven innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out 12.
ST. LOUIS (AP)- The St. Louis Cardinals own a 1-0 edge over Pittsburgh after routing the Pirates 9-1 in the NL division series opener at Busch Stadium. The teams are back at it this afternoon at Busch Stadium with 15-game winner Lance Lynn on the mound for the Cards against Pirates’ rookie Gerrit Cole.
UNDATED (AP)- Both AL division series finally get started today. Wild card winner Tampa Bay is at Fenway Park to play the Red Sox (3:07 p.m. Eastern time) and AL Central champion Detroit sends out 21-game winner Max Scherzer against Oakland tonight (9:37 p.m. Eastern time).
A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that Dusty Baker is out as manager of the Cincinnati Reds.
Baker’s tenure ends three days after the Reds lost the National League wild-card game to Pittsburgh 6-2.
The Reds will announce Friday that Baker will be replaced, the person told the AP on condition of anonymity because there was no official announcement. It was not immediately clear whether Baker was fired or chose to step down.
The 64-year-old Baker had one season left on a two-year contract he signed last October.
Baker guided the Reds into the playoffs three of the last four years, but they never advanced.

CLEVELAND (AP) – In a game in which both starting quarterbacks were knocked out, the Cleveland Browns outscored the Buffalo Bills 37-24 to improve to 3-2. Quarterback Brandon Weeden replaced injured starter Brian Hoyer and rallied the Browns past the Bills, who also lost starting rookie quarterback EJ Manuel with a knee injury.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – After failing to find a place to trade him, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released quarterback Josh Freeman, one week after benching the fifth-year pro in favor of rookie Mike Glennon. Freeman struggled the first three weeks of the season, completing just 45.7 percent of his passes.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – The Minnesota Twins have broken ground for a major upgrade to their spring training home in Florida. The $48.5 million project includes adding 1,300 seats to Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, improving the concourses and adding a new player development academy.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Minnesota Vikings fans will pay an average of $2,500 for the right to buy a season ticket in the team’s new stadium. The seat licenses are part of contracts negotiated with the team. The licenses will be required for three-quarters of the stadium’s 65,000 seats. The seat licenses could start as low as $500 and will range up to $10,000.

Lawmakers could vote today on giving workers pay they’ve missed because of the partial shutdown. Also the House plans to vote to restore federal funding to some agencies and programs, including the WIC program, which provides food aid to pregnant women and their children.
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama will not be leaving Saturday night on a planned Asia trip because of the partial government shutdown and the failure in Congress to pass an emergency spending bill. Instead, Secretary of State John Kerry will be sitting in for his boss at economic summits in Indonesia and Brunei (broo-NEYE’).
NEW YORK (AP) – The mother of a Connecticut woman who authorities say put Washington in lockdown yesterday says “never in a million years” would she believe her daughter “would do something like this.” Two law enforcement officials say it was 34-year-old Miriam Carey of Stamford, Conn., who tried to breach a barrier at the White House and set off a high-speed chase. Carey’s mother says she suffered from post-partum depression. The woman was shot and killed by police.
BANGKOK (AP) – Uncertainty about how long the partial shutdown of the U.S. government will last has kept global stock markets on edge today. In early European trading, markets in Britain, Germany and France are down. Earlier in the day, Asian stocks closed mostly lower.
BARTOW, Fla. (AP) – The million-dollar Florida home of a murdered lottery winner has been stripped from the woman convicted of killing him. The body was Abraham Shakespeare was found in April 2009, after prosecutors say Dorice Moore befriended Shakespeare to take control of his wealth, including his home. Moore was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. The Ledger of Lakeland reports a judge has ruled that Moore never purchased the home from Shakespeare and its sale will benefit Shakespeare’s two sons.
