UJ – The Jimmie softball team posted another sweep of Mayville State ND University Sunday afternoon at the Nelson Family Bubble. Defeating the Comets 11-2 in five innings and 4-0. Jamestown extended its winning streak to six games and are 15-1 in their last 16 games.

GAME ONE
- The first five Comet hitters reached base against Jimmie starter Hope Ransome and led 2-0 with no out.
- Ransome got out of a bases loaded jam and held Mayville State to just two first-inning runs.
- A double by Kayla Quintanilla and a single by Kaitlin McCartney drove in runs for UJ and the score was 2-2 after one inning.
- Natalie Draper’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third gave Jamestown a 3-2 lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Jimmies scored eight times to end the game via the run rule.
- Sydney Grendler drove in the first run of the inning with a double, then Sonya Rodgers scored on the front end of a double steal to make it 5-2.
- With runners on first and second, Maddie Spaeth homered to left, her first of the season, to push the UJ advantage to 8-2.
- Draper singled up the middle to score Quintanilla, then with the bases loaded, Sonya Rodgers drove in two runs with a single to right center for an 11-2 lead.
- Ransome (5-4) retired the Comets in order in the top of the fifth to record her second complete game in as many days.
- The Jimmies had 11 hits as a team, with Spaeth, Quintanilla, Draper, and McCartney getting two hits each.
- Trinity Gregg had two of UJ’s six stolen bases.
GAME TWO
- Abby Blair held the Comets to five singles over seven scoreless innings for her first shutout of the season, improving her record to 7-4 as the Jimmies won 6-0.
- In the bottom of the first, the Jimmies executed a double steal. Kylie Yanzuk took second and Kayla Quintanilla went to third, but the throw to get Quintanilla went into left field, and she came home with the first run of the game.
- Jamestown added to their lead in the third on a fielder’s choice by Maddie Spaeth and a passed ball that scored Lauren Weigel.
- Trinity Gregg made it 4-0 with a single to score Amanda Burch in the fourth, then Quintanilla came home on a passed ball in the fifth inning and a 5-0 lead.
- Yanzuk drove in the final UJ run in the sixth with a single to left that scored Sonya Rodgers.
- Gregg and Yanzuk combined for four of Jamestown’s six hits in the game.
- The Jimmies stole six more bases and finished with four-game series with 21 total.
UP NEXT
- Jamestown heads to Madison, S.D., for a pair of doubleheaders against Dakota State University beginning on Saturday, April 5. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. with Sunday’s doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m.
