Sharon Sandness, 80, Fingal, ND, passed away at CHI Mercy Health in Valley City, ND on Sunday, March 30, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Inurnment will be later in the spring at Grand Rapids Cemetery.

Sharon was born February 14, 1945, in Valley City to Walter and Alice (Pfaff) Hardtke. She attended rural school through eighth grade, then graduated from Marion High School. She graduated from Valley City State College in 1969. That same year, she married Alvin Sandness, Jr. They made their home south of Marion, ND and had four children. She loved raising chickens and gardening while living on the farm.
Sharon later moved to Jamestown, ND and worked at the North Dakota State Hospital for 19 years. She most recently lived in Fingal and was cared for by her daughter, Laurie.

She liked to play card games and watch game shows. She was a whiz at solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles. She enjoyed reading books and writing letters to keep in touch with friends and family. She liked to go for walks and drives to view the countryside. She loved to see farmland and cattle and especially loved flower gardens.

Sharon was known for her kind heart and a joyful smile that would brighten your day. She kept a positive attitude even during challenging times. Above all she loved and cherished her family.

Sharon is survived by her four children, Laurie (Corbert) Laducer, Michael Sandness, Heidi (Jerad) Plesuk, and Steven Sandness; one sister, Susan (William, Jr.) Boutwell; two nephews, Jeff (Malissa) Ubben and Scott (Andrea) Ubben; and one niece, Kristine (John) Keller; and many other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Wallace and Alan.
