Valley City, ND (VCPW) Public works will be flushing hydrants around town starting Mon April 21.
What does that mean for me? Why do we do this?
Every year we flush the hydrants in the spring and fall.
A few things are checked when flushing a hydrant.
1. Pressure
2. Check for needed maintenance
3. To keep fresh water in the system
These are all done so the hydrants are ready to be used if needed.
How does that affect you?
Sometimes when flushing the hydrant sediments get stirred up and can cause water in your home to look discolored or smell.
Don’t worry this is still safe to drink!
To fix this, just run COLD water until clear and you are good to go!
Why COLD water? You will not want that stuck in your water heater and by running cold water it does not let the sentiments in to the water heater. Over time that could potentially compromise the life span of your water heater.
