AZUSA, Calif./LONG BEACH, Calif. – North Dakota saw action in the Pacific Coast Invitational and resumed competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday. During the meets, the Fighting Hawks recorded three new school records and rearranged the UND top-10 list with nine improvements.
Jadyn Keeler was the final Fighting Hawk to take the track at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday night and completely annihilated the 5,000-meter school record in her invitational section with a PR of 15:33.59. That time shattered the previous record time of 16:04.26, set by Yonca Kutluk on that same track last season. Keeler’s school-record time was an improvement to her previous outdoor 5,000-meter best by 1:26.09 and currently ranks No. 19 in the NCAA.
At Long Beach State, Marta Marksa broke her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 59.93 and placed seventh. With her PR, she became the first Fighting Hawk to break the 60.00-barrier in program history and bettered her previous school record time of 60.48, which she set at the Riverside CC Open at the beginning of this outdoor season.
Marksa also nearly set a 100-meter hurdles program record and improved her No. 2 time in school history with a personal best of 13.78. She was 0.14 seconds away from breaking the current record.
Back at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Jiri Ceska posted a new program record in his invitational section of the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.67. He edged out the previous record time of 1:48.97, which was set by Alec Nelson at the 2023 Kip Janvrin Open.
Brooklyn Brouse moved up from No. 4 to No. 2 in school history in the 800 meters in her invitational section with a personal-best time of 2:08.40.
Eliana Malnourie added her name to the UND top-10 list in her heat of the 5,000 meters and ran a time of 16:51.52, which currently sits No. 5 on the record list.
Earlier in the day, back in Long Beach, Jory Vasek won the 400-meter crown in 47.85.
Towards the beginning of the meet, Vasek was also on UND’s 4×100-meter squad with Michael Mallory, Cruz Megazzini and Maxwell Roller and finished seventh in a time of 41.60. That relay time currently sits No. 4 in UND history.
Jerzie Finstad also placed on the track and was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.56.
Ethan Thomas and Kenna Curry both placed in their respective shot put sections. Thomas took third with a toss of 59-4 1/4 (18.09m), while Curry was fifth in her section with a throw of 51-3 3/4 (15.64m).
The women’s 4×100-meter team of Nadia Evans, Patricija Grosberga, Porsha Miles and Alimath Salou were the first Hawks to take the track on Thursday and finished eighth with a time of 48.03.
Shane Zierden and Anya Williams also recorded improvements on the UND top-10 list in their triple jump sections. Zierden improved his No. 4 mark in program history with a PR leap of 46-11 (14.30m). Williams added her name to the record book with a jump of 38-0 3/4 (11.60m) and that mark ranks No. 9 in program history.
The Fighting Hawks will conclude the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday and will also commence the Beach Invitational. Live results for all meets can be found on FightingHawks.com.
