With celebration for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Louie Ronald Cox, a devoted servant of the Lord, on April 26, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by the love of family, Louie transitioned to his eternal Father at his Valley City, North Dakota home.
For 36 years, Louie faithfully served as a pastor, spreading the Good News and nurturing countless souls. His dedication to education and community was evident in his 43-year tenure as a custodian and bus driver in Southern Illinois and North Dakota.
Louie’s deep love for the Lord shone brightly in his daily life. He also reveled in the great outdoors, finding delight in fishing, hunting, bird watching, and collecting guns. His kind heart and quick wit, often showcased through his favorite jokes – like “Why did the banana go to the doctor? He wasn’t peeling well!!!” – brought joy to those around him. And who could forget his trusty fart machine, which never failed to crack him up? His genuine love for others and infectious humor endeared him to many, making him a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Louie is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Wanda Faye Cox; He was preceded in death by his parents, Aline & Dean Cox. survived by his children Kevin Cox, Amy Cox, Robin Heitz, and Jeff Munzlinger; preceded in death by siblings Gary Cox, Ralph Cox, and surviving sibling Shirley & her husband Jerry Smith; also survived by his 5 grandchildren – Tyler Cox, Tanner Cox, Brandon Richardson, Bailey Kruse, Kaitin Lucas Munzlinger, and 7 great grandchildren – Kaden Cox, Silas Cox, Hendrix Cox, Oliver Cox, Brayden Richardson, Payton Richardson, Evelyn Richardson who absolutely adored him; and many loving family members.
We’ll cherish the memories of Louie’s life, marked by his unwavering commitment to serving the Lord, his kindness, and his infectious humor. May his legacy inspire us to live with purpose, love, and devotion to our Creator. Rest in peace, dear Louie.
A “Celebration of His Life” will be held 2:30 pm, Saturday, May 10 at the First Baptist Church in Valley City. An additional Celebration of Life service will be 2 pm Saturday, May 24th at Messiah Christian Church, 1408 S Buchanan St., Marion, IL 62959. His final resting place will be in Murphysboro, Illinois, at the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with his family that preceded him.
