GRAND FORKS ND– North Dakota Soccer closed out the preseason slate with an impressive 7-0 win with no shots allowed over Northeast CC. It started steadily and erupted after the halftime whistle on Sunday afternoon at Bronson Field as the North Dakota soccer team scored six second-half goals.
The Fighting Hawks grabbed the lead in the 17th minute when Charlie Basinet netted the first goal of the game. UND dominated possession in the opening frame, firing 17 shots and earning four corner kicks, but carried just the one-goal advantage into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the offense shifted into high gear. Less than six minutes into the second period, Sarah McCracken struck twice in a span of 85 seconds — the first coming off a setup from Yui Fujii at 50:47 and the second an unassisted tally at 52:12 — to quickly extend the lead to 3-0.
In the 61st minute, Basinet turned provider, assisting Paula Moreno Diaz for her first goal of the game. Moreno Diaz struck again in the 73rd minute with a low finish past the keeper to make it 5-0. Just four minutes later, Cora Ellermann buried her first goal on a breakaway, and in the 83rd minute, Adi Radwanski capped the scoring on a feed from Ellermann for the 7-0 final.
Defensively, the Fighting Hawks were flawless, holding Northeast CC without a shot on goal and without a corner kick for the entire match. Goalkeeper Grace Miller played the first half without facing a shot before Sydney Bakritzes completed the shutout in the final 45 minutes.
NoDak will start the regular season at McNeese State on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.
