Jamestown (VNL) – A Jamestown man is facing a felony charge after court documents say he had a 17-year-old in his bedroom when police arrived on scene.
Police were called just after 11:00 P.M. on September 4 by a woman who said that her husband, 50-year-old Johnathan Wiebenga, had been sleeping with a 17-year-old. She said that the victim was currently in Wiebenga’s bedroom.
The caller indicated that she didn’t want to give an address. Officers then heard a man say, “Who are you talking to?” before an argument ensued, followed by a banging noise, and the line being disconnected. Officers found an address associated with the number and went to the scene at 1600 11th Avenue NE.
When they knocked on the door, Wiebenga answered. They asked if anyone else was in the house with him, and he pointed at the caller. Despite initially saying that there was nobody else in the apartment, Wiebenga later admitted that the victim was in his bedroom.
Police removed the victim from the apartment. She told officers that she and Wiebenga had been dating for about two months, but said they did not have sex. However, in a second interview with the police, the victim did admit that they had had sex approximately three times.
Wiebenga initially told officers that he had known the victim for about two weeks. When an officer asked if the victim was in his phone contacts, he said no.
When officers searched Wiebenga‘s phone, the lock screen image was reportedly a picture of the victim sitting in his lap with a heart-shaped figure on it.
Wiebenga was placed under arrest for corruption of a minor and transported to the Stutsman County Corrections Center. While waiting for corrections to take him into custody, Wiebenga told officers: “I did not force her or threaten her or anything. Everything that happened between us was mutual. I’m not some big bad guy.”
Wiebenga had his initial court appearance on September 5, a jury trial is scheduled to begin on January 6.
