BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Rainy weather is setting records in North Dakota.
The National Weather Service reports that Jamestown, Bismarck, Dickinson, Grand Forks and Fargo all set daily rainfall records for Oct. 14 on Monday. Fargo had the most rain, with 1.27 inches. Dickinson had 1.2 inches. There also was some scattered light snowfall reported in southwestern North Dakota.
In the area, the 24 report ending at 8-a.m. Tuesday, included 1.75 inches of tain 5-miles northest of Streeter in Stutsman County, and during that time period, 1.40 inches of rain reported in Foster County 4 miles north of Carrington.
At 9-a.m. the 24 rain total in McIntosh County, at 9-a.m., Tuesday in Asheley was 1.90 inches.
The recent wet weather has prompted McKenzie County officials to temporarily ban large trucks from gravel and dirt roads until conditions improve. The Dickinson Press reports that Stark County officials are asking for a voluntary shutdown of heavy hauling on rural roads.
In eastern North Dakota, the rain has put a damper on the sugar beet harvest, leaving a lot of farmers in limbo.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 14, 2013) — In a unanimous vote, the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) has given final approval to sell a lot in the I-94 Business for the construction of a new hotel, to Shaw Development for $1 per square foot.
The lot is located across the street from Buffalo City Diesel and adjacent to AgCountry Farm Credit Services.
The sale need not be approved by the Jamestown City Council and Stutsman County Commission before it is final, as the panels have previously approved the land issues.
When the sale is approved, Shaw Development has two years to complete its construction plans or it will incur additional costs for the land.
In other business, the JSDC Board also approved a PACE interest buydown for an expansion at Buffalo City Diesel.
The JSDC is to provide a loan of up to $200,000 while the Bank of North Dakota will provide a grant of up to $300,000 to reduce the interest on the loan for the expansion.
The money loaned by the JSDC is repaid after the original expansion loan is paid off. The original expansion loan is about $350,000.
The JSDC Board voted unanimously to approved a $75,000 grant to the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation, to be matched by other BCTF funds.
The dollars are earmarked to provide grants to tourism sites and operations in Jamestown and Stutsman County.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News (Oct 14, 2013) — The Jamestown City Planning Commission unanimously approved a housing development plat for the Lindberg Addition.
The plat is the proposed location for 14 patio homes near the former Job Service North Dakota building on Second Street Southwest.
The old Job Service building is zoned as commercial space and will be developed as office space.
The plat approval will be on the November 4, 2013 City Council agenda, for consideration.
Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Park Board has delayed action on an easement agreement with the City of Jamestown.
The issue is determination if the Parks and Recreation Department will received a break on it water bill.
The easement agreement a with the city would allow city workers to gain access to some city-owned water wells in McElroy Park.
Chairman Larry Knoblich says he will visit with City Administrator Jeff Fuchs on how to proceed with a reduction in the water bill.
A special meeting of the city park boad can be held to approve the easement if people are concerned about it.
Parks and Recreation Department, Dough Hogan says city workers have always had access to the water well sites and the agreement was just a housekeeping item that city officials want resolved.
The commission also approved $15,000 from the 2014 budget to helpwith the purchase of bleachers and a press box for the fastpitch softball diamond Number 11 at McElroy Park.
The cost for the bleachers and press box is about $28,000, with half of the costs being covered by a match grant.
The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation Executive Advisory Board, on September 20, 2013, approved a $15,000 grant request from the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department for the addition of a press box to the recently improved fast-pitch softball diamond number 11, at McElroy Park.
The total cost of the press box is estimated at $25,000 to $30,000.
The press box to be located behind home plate is addition to recent improvements to diamond 11, which has included a scoreboard, new dugouts, and fences. Handicapped accessible seating is also be looked at.
Jamestown, ND KCSi-T.V. News Oct. 14, 2013) — United Technologies Corporation, has canceled plans to furlough employees at its aerospace businesses following the recall of Defense Contract Management Agency inspectors.
The DCMA inspectors are responsible for auditing and approving operations throughout the manufacturing process for military products.
The announcement canceling UTC furlough plans was made before any employees were furloughed.
UTC previously announced it would furlough thousands of workers due to the absence of DCMA inspectors when at first the inspectors were deemed non-essential federal employees and furloughed as part of the partial U.S. government shutdown.
UTC has a plant in Jamestown.
Bismarck, N.D. KCSi-T.V. News Oct. 14, 2013 – The N.D. Department of Human Services’ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) announced today that
Opportunity Foundation, Inc. of Williston and Central Market of Bismarck and Mandan have been named co-recipients of the 2013 N.D. State DVR Employer of the Year Awards.
The awards honor North Dakota business owners and employers for their continued work with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and for their work within their communities to support, develop, and inspire individuals with disabilities to achieve their full potential. The division and the N.D. State Rehabilitation Council selected Opportunity Foundation, Inc. and Central Market from eight regional employer award recipients.
The other regional employer award-winners include: Service Master, ofValley City; Dan’s Supermarket, Dickinson; Leevers Foods, Devils Lake; Red River Commodities, Inc., Fargo; Rydell Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, Grand Forks; and Gooseneck Implement, Minot.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have arrested a man alleged to have led law officers on a lengthy chase after burglarizing a Minot home.
McLean County deputies arrested the suspect Monday as he walked along U.S. Highway 83 near Underwood, about 60 miles south of Minot.
The 45-year-old man allegedly fled during a traffic stop in Minot on Sunday night and led officers on a chase through Minot, then out of the city south on Highway 83 and into McLean County. City, county and state Highway Patrol officers were involved.
Authorities say the suspect eventually crashed his vehicle but deputies did not immediately find him after he then fled on foot.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – One of several people arrested in the slaying of a Williston-area hobby rancher has been released from jail and all charges against him dropped.
According to jail staff and court documents, Jeremy Weyrauch was released from the Williams County Jail Friday and all charges against him were dismissed.
He was arrested earlier this year on a count of conspiracy to commit murder in the May shooting death of 58-year-old Jack Sjol.
Sjol’s body was found in a garbage dump on May 14, three weeks after his family reported him missing. Authorities say he had bullet wounds to his head, face and upper left arm.
Prosecutors refused to discuss the case Monday and Weyrauch’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A woman from Minot Air Force Base has appeared in court on a negligent homicide charge alleging she caused a June accident that killed a Westhope man. Minot Daily News reports 32-year-old Maria Sutton faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if she’s convicted in the death of 49-year-old Robert Morrison in north Minot. Authorities say Sutton’s car hit Morrison’s car head-on.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A psychological examination and alcohol evaluation has been ordered for a man convicted in Williston of offering cash for a hit on an associate in the meth trade. Billy Owens will undergo the tests before being sentenced for his conviction on charges of leading a criminal organization and conspiring to commit aggravated assault. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – About 25 people stood in the rain in downtown Fargo to protest the federal government shutdown that’s entering its 14th day. The group that calls themselves “Fargo Progressives” gathered on a street corner. They carried signs that read “Don’t Cut My Social Security” and “No Tax Breaks For Outsourcing.”
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Soybean Council is hosting a trade team from the Philippines.
The delegation on Tuesday was touring a grain elevator in Hillsboro and a seed company in Casselton.
The Soybean Council says the goal is to educate the trade team about the quality of soybeans grown in North Dakota, and to build international markets.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A Japanese television drama filmed on location at the University of North Dakota is slated to premiere this week. The film crew chose the school’s aerospace program as the subject of three episodes for the show titled “Miss Pilot.” The story follows the lives of six students going through a flight training program.

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. Sports) — There will be a charge for Valley City Junior High and sub-varsity athletic events during the upcoming winter sports season.
Activities Director Martin Bratrud says the ticket prices will help pay for officiating and basic equipment replacement in the future.
Valley City school board voted 3-0 Monday, to implement charging $2 for adults and $1 for students to attend sub-varsity and junior high school sports events starting this winter.

NEW YORK (AP) – Major League Baseball umpire Wally Bell has died less than a week after working the National League Division Series between St. Louis and Pittsburgh. He was 48.
Major League Baseball confirmed Bell’s death Monday. He died of an apparent heart attack in his home state of Ohio.

SAN DIEGO (AP) – The San Diego Chargers controlled the ball for more than 38 minutes and didn’t allow a touchdown in a 19-9 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Philip Rivers was 22 of 33 for 237 yards, no interceptions and a second-quarter touchdown that put San Diego ahead to stay. Ryan Mathews ran for 102 yards as the Chargers improved to 3-3 and dropped the Colts to 4-2.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Ferris State, Colgate and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will join Minnesota in the Gophers’ 23rd annual Mariucci Classic.
The matchups were announced Monday.
Ferris State and RPI kick off the tournament at 4 p.m. on Jan. 3, with Minnesota following against Colgate at 7 p.m.
The winners of both Friday matchups will face off on Saturday as will the losing teams. The Gophers will play in the 7 p.m. game on Saturday regardless of the outcome of Friday’s games, with the first game of the day set for 4 p.m.
Minnesota is 6-0-0 all-time against Colgate. The last time the two teams met was in 2001. The Gophers are 3-1-1 against Ferris State and 9-2-0 against RPI.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) – Minnesota Vikings linebacker Desmond Bishop’s season has ended because of a torn ACL in his right knee. Bishop was hurt on a running play by Carolina in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. He walked off with a limp under his own power. An MRI test later revealed the ACL tear.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Prosecutors expect to ask a grand jury to consider more serious charges in the death of the 2-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Lincoln County State’s Attorney Tom Wollman says he will review the completed autopsy report along with other reports before seeking any new charges against 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson.
Sioux Falls police identified the boy as Tyrese Robert Doohen, who died Friday after being hospitalized with severe head injuries.
Patterson, the boyfriend of Tyrese’s mother, was charged last week with aggravated assault and aggravated battery. Prosecutors are also asking that a suspended sentence be imposed for a previous domestic assault conviction.
A message left for Patterson’s attorney was not immediately returned.
Peterson has declined to discuss the relationship he had with the boy.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) – Brian Vickers will miss the rest of the NASCAR season because of a blood clot in his right calf. Vickers was placed on blood-thinning medication once the clot was discovered today. He missed the final 25 races of the 2010 season with blood clots, and during that time required heart surgery. He said in a statement his physicians are confident he’ll be able to resume activity before next season.

WASHINGTON (AP) – There are still unanswered questions today as Senate leaders focus on wrapping up an agreement to reopen the government and forestall a default on U.S. obligations that some experts warn would lead to a major recession relapse. One question is what the reaction will be from conservative House Republicans to any deal out of the Senate.
LONDON (AP) – International stock markets perked up today with investors apparently hopeful that a real deal is in the works to solve the U.S. government debt ceiling crisis and partial shutdown. The prevailing view in markets appears to be that a deal will be agreed between Republicans in Congress and the White House because no politician will want to be seen as being responsible for a default.
PROVO, Utah (AP) – The murder trial of a once-prominent Utah doctor begins today with jury selection. Prosecutors have accused 57-year-old Martin MacNeill of giving his wife a fatal cocktail of drugs six years ago so he could continue an affair. MacNeill’s attorney has said the doctor denies having anything to do with his wife’s death.
BAGHDAD (AP) – A bombing on a Muslim holiday has killed a dozen Sunni worshippers as they left a mosque in northern Iraq after prayers. Officials say 24 people were wounded in the blast in Kirkuk, a frequent flashpoint for violence. The city is home to an ethnic mix of Arabs, Kurds and Turkomen who all have competing claims to the oil-rich city.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – Officials say a bomb that killed a provincial governor in eastern Afghanistan was planted in a mosque microphone. Governor Arsallah Jamal of Logar province was delivering a speech to worshippers today to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (eed al-AHD’-hah) when he was killed.
