UJfullJamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The University of Jamestown Theatre will open the 2013-14 season with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “Carousel.” The show runs Oct. 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium.

On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2 guests included Director, Mike McIntyre, Sydney Johnson who plays “Julie” and Chris Coppinger, who plays “Jigger.”

McInyre said the plays centers around, Julie, a millworker, who falls for carnival barker Billy. Before long, worldly concerns strain the romance, and the newly expectant father goes to tragic measures to provide for his family.

Carousel is often considered Richard Rodgers’s most beautiful score, featuring songs like “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over,” and “If I Loved You.” It includes a ballet scene.

He said there are 35 cast members, including University, high school and elementary school students, plus 20 members in the orchestra, with choreography provided by a University student. A carousel has been constructed for the stage production.

The season continues Feb. 6-8 with “The Cover of LIFE” by R.T. Robinson. Three war brides are about to become the subject of a national magazine.

“Once in a Lifetime” by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart runs April 10-12. A trio of down-and-out troupers set out for Hollywood to hit it big in the early days of talkies in this hilarious comedy.

The season concludes May 1 with “An Evening Of One-Acts,” original works by the University’s playwriting class.
