Brian Clyde, 58, Litchville, ND passed away at his home surrounded by his family on February 4, 2026.  There will be a celebration of his life later this summer.  An online guestbook is available at www.lerudmathias.com.  Traditions Funeral Services in Valley City, ND are assisting Brian’s family with arrangements.

Brian was born July 9, 1967, and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the military. During that time, he met his high school sweetheart, Cherie, on a class field trip. The two fell in love and, still very young, asked for permission to marry—requiring their parents’ signatures to make it official.

After leaving the military, still being in his early twenties, Brian moved to Sanborn, ND to be closer to his brother. He worked many jobs and learned so many skills. He painted houses, did home repairs and repaired engines. He could fix almost anything. He moved his family to Valley City, ND to be closer to work and while living there he discovered his true passion: Paleontology. He spent countless hours excavating fossils in the Hell Creek Formation in the Badlands, a pursuit that brought him great joy and purpose. His work and discoveries are displayed throughout the United States and internationally.

As time passed and his children grew, Brian and his family settled in Litchville, ND, where he worked as a mechanic.

Brian may have worked many jobs in his life, but his favorite job was being a father and grandfather. He enjoyed passing on his knowledge to his family and coming to their rescue whenever he was needed.

Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Cherie Clyde; their four children, Christopher (Hanna) Clyde, Joseph (Jessica) Clyde, Jeffrey Clyde, and Lisa (Jeremy) White; his brothers, John (Terri) Clyde and Kevin (Estelle) Clyde; and his five grandchildren, Alistair Alebrett, Jayden Clyde, Alana Alebrett, Jaycee Clyde, and Lincoln White.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cynthia (Wallace) Clyde, and his younger brother, Edward (Teddy) Clyde.

Brian will be remembered for his passion, dedication, and the legacy he leaves behind in both his family and his life’s work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of a funeral Brian requested his family visit the Badlands.
