Jim Lausch, 73, went to be with the Lord on February 11, after a year-long, courageous battle with esophagus cancer. He endured much during this time without complaining once. He had been under the excellent care of JRMC Hospice for the last couple months. In the early morning hours, he entered his glorious eternal home! Jim was born in Carrington, ND on August 20, 1952 to Walter and Joyce Lausch. He was the eldest of 5 children. He had three brothers; Brendon, Dave, and Mark and one sister, Chris (Pete) Roller. Jim and Paula (Engstrom) went to high school together and were married in Carrington in 1974. They had two children; Sara and Brian. Jim enjoyed going to their school activities when they were growing up and then later watching the grandkids in all of their activities. That’s why he was so glad when Sara & Dave, with their family (children; Calli, Kassidy, Noah and Kendra Lynch), moved to Jamestown when their eldest started high school. Jim started his almost 44 year career in 1974 at Western Gear (now Collins Aerospace). While still working there, he and Paula bought The Mustard Seed (Christian Book and Gift Store) in 2007, where Paula worked almost 30 years. Jim would work all day at his regular job and the high-tail it to the store to spend more hours as the bookkeeper and handyman. They especially enjoyed this time working together, running the store, and serving their customers. Unfortunately, they had to make the decision to close it in 2012 because of Paula’s health. Later Jim retired from his job and enjoyed his leisure time by camping, keeping an immaculate lawn, working in his garage, and visiting with neighbors. He enjoyed watching sports and went to as many Jimmies basketball and volleyball games that he could until his health started failing. He was also a huge Cubs fan and was able to attend a Cubs game with his son a couple years ago. Jim was an avid reader and seldom went anywhere without one of his hardcover books. He even changed a bedroom into a library by building wall to wall bookshelves. Jim was a man of faith, a quiet man who didn’t let things bother him, and a man of his word. Someone recently said that Jim was “just a good guy”. That he was! His “angel nurse” also referred to him as a “gentle giant”. He had a strong work ethic which he instilled in his children and hopefully they passed down to their family. Jim liked “dad” jokes, which were lost on Paula, as she would just “roll” her eyes and walk away. That left Jim standing there grinning. For their 50th wedding anniversary and because Paula couldn’t travel, she suggested a father/son Alaskan cruise. Jim and Brian went and had such a good time. Now Brian has those wonderful memories with his dad. Jim leaves behind his wife, Paula; his children; Sara (David) Lynch and Brian (Nikki) Lausch, and 8 grandchildren and his sister. Other special family members include sister-in-law, Doreene (Engstrom) Whitney and brother-in-law, Larry (Diane) Engstrom and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, along with brother-in-law Gene Whitney and mother-in-law Marjorie Engstrom. The tears we shed while he was here were for him. Now the tears we shed are for us. Jim is now in Heaven with his two unborn children—waiting for the rest of the family to join them.
