Community members are invited to an informative and engaging event at the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse State Historic Site focused on understanding North Dakota’s ballot measure process and how to participate in upcoming elections.
The event will take place on Tuesday, April 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm., offering a convenient opportunity for residents to learn more about their role in shaping state laws and policies.
This one-hour public event will feature North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe, who will provide a clear overview of how citizens can shape laws and the state constitution through initiated measures. Attendees will learn about the different types of ballot measures, what’s already approved for the June 9 Primary Election ballot, and which petitions are currently circulating.
In addition to explaining the process, Howe will walk through practical steps to prepare for voting, including voter ID requirements, absentee voting options, how to find your polling location, and ways to view a sample ballot.
The event will also feature Olivia Schloegel, a volunteer community organizer, who will share resources to help residents get more involved. Her presentation will focus on how to effectively communicate with elected officials, speak up on issues that matter, and ensure your voice is heard.
Organizers emphasize that civic participation is essential to a healthy democracy, reminding attendees that every vote—and every voice—matters.
This event is free and open to the public, making it a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about the voting process and civic engagement in North Dakota.
