Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the western Badlands is once again open to visitors. Chief Ranger Dean Wyckoff tells The Dickinson Press that it’s a good feeling.
The Bureau of Land Management’s North Dakota field office in Dickinson also is getting back up to speed. More than 500 oil and gas drilling permit applications are awaiting consideration.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says his office also has a lot of catching up to do, but will get the job done.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot police are investigating an armed robbery at a gas station.
Authorities say a male walked into the Enerbase business about 3 a.m. Thursday, displayed a weapon and demanded money from a clerk. He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police did not immediately say what type of weapon was involved.
HARVEY, N.D. (AP) – The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a worker at a grain elevator in Harvey.
The incident happened at the Prairie Towers Elevator two weeks ago. OSHA official Eric Brooks says a section of a grain chute fell and hit 21-year-old Alex Rall in the head.
Brooks says the grain chute section weighed between 250 pounds and 300 pounds. Rall was pronounced dead at the scene.
The OSHA office has been closed because of the 16-day partial government shutdown that ended Thursday.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man is accused of punching his sister in the face with brass knuckles.
Christopher Rainbow, of Fort Yates, is charged in federal court with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

CROSBY, N.D. (AP) – A Minnesota man faces charges including attempted murder after a weekend stabbing in the western North Dakota oil patch.
Christopher Baumgartner of Olivia, Minnesota is charged with attempted murder, terrorizing, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault. His bond is set at $250,000. Court documents do not list an attorney for him.
Two other men face lesser charges in the stabbing near Crosby.
Baumgartner is accused of stabbing Christian Boen with a machete that had a blade nearly a foot long. Boen received more than a dozen stitches and has been released from a hospital.
Investigators allege that Baumgartner and Boen had an argument about a truck being either borrowed or stolen.
BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) – Authorities in Bottineau County are investigating the apparent dragging death of a miniature Shetland pony taken from a hobby farm.
Owner Dave Boppre says on Sept. 24 someone in a pickup truck chased the pet horse from a field, tired it out, struck it with the truck, then tied it to the back of the truck and dragged it along the road.
Boppre is accepting donations for a reward fund. The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association says it also is preparing a reward fund.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Gov. Jack Dalrymple says he’ll ask for a major disaster declaration from the White House to help cover damage from an early October blizzard.
He earlier proclaimed a winter storm emergency declaration that allows state agencies to work with local governments throughout the recovery process.
The storm caused extensive damages to the state’s rural electric cooperatives’ infrastructure and to roads.
Dalrymple says nearly 8,000 customers were part of an outage and the remaining 120 without power should be back online by this weekend.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – United Blood Services is looking for people in the region to donate type O-negative blood, in part because of the recent blizzard in the western Dakotas.
O-negative is the universal donor blood type, meaning it can be given to anyone.
United Blood Services says the demand for O-negative blood recently has outpaced the supply. One reason is that the early October blizzard shut down blood drives and facilities in Rapid City.
O-negative blood also is in demand because only 6 percent of people have it.
United Blood Services has North Dakota offices in Bismarck, Fargo and Minot and South Dakota offices in Aberdeen, Mitchell and Rapid City. It collects blood for 93 hospitals.

North Dakota water quality director Dennis Fewless says state and Tesoro officials are closely monitoring the estimated 20,000-barrel spill that covers an area the size of seven football fields near Tioga.
The spill was found by a farmer on Sept. 29.
Fewless says a thick layer of clay beneath the spill site is acting as a natural barrier to any water sources below. He says monitoring wells have been placed on the perimeter of the spill area to check for any oil that may escape.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Another oil spill has been reported in North Dakota.
The state now says five to seven barrels of oil leaked from a one-inch oil gathering line in Divide County. It initially reported that about 150 barrels had leaked, but says there was an error in a preliminary report.
The governor’s office says the state Health Department is monitoring the leak closely because it’s near a small wetland.
An updated news release Thursday night did not offer any further details, but said more information will be released Friday.
Divide is the far northwest county in the state. Its county seat is Crosby.
