BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Health officials say 19 cases of West Nile
have been reported in North Dakota.

The virus is carried by mosquitoes.
Officials say four of the cases have been reported in Burleigh
County.

Barnes County reports two human cases and Stutsman County one human case.
Last year, the state had four human cases of West Nile.
The virus was first confirmed in North Dakota in 2002.

The highest human case total in the state was 617 in 2003.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University researchers
are growing seeds from the state’s only known subalpine fir tree,
to see if the species can become a part of the state’s landscape.
Jamestown resident Dennis Roaldson owns the tree.

He says he brought the young fir from Montana in 1980. He didn’t know what it was until City Forester Vern Quam identified it years later.
Roaldson says when he entered the tree in the state Forest Service’s Champion Tree program – which recognizes the largest of each species in the state – he found out it was the only subalpine fir in North Dakota.
NDSU researcher Todd West says officials want to know if the
non-native tree is suitable for widespread use in North Dakota, to
increase diversity.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Las Vegas woman charged along with her

year. Walgreens spokesman Jim Graham says the company decided to
move work to call centers that employ 500 people or more.

The Fargo center opened in 2007. Employees take calls relating

operate within Walgreens pharmacies.

Graham says 28 workers will be given the option of working from home. The remaining Fargo positions will be moved to a center in Orlando, Fla.

expansion aimed at increasing the Civic Center’s convention
business.
The downtown facility has a large arena that can host about
10,000 people for events ranging from sports to concerts. It also
has a separate exhibit hall.
Local Chamber of Commerce President Kelvin Hullet tells The

North Dakota U.S. Sen. John Hoeven and U.S. Rep. Rick Berg say when the Missouri River’s dam system was built, North Dakota and other states that were flooded were promised water benefits. Now, they say the Corps of Engineers wants to charge for those benefits.

Hoeven says if the corps goes ahead with its plan to charge for stored water in Missouri River reservoirs, he believes the state should challenge the idea in federal court.
