HallmarkMovie300webCh64Jamestown, ND (CSi) — A Monday evening accident led to injuries to Jamestown teens.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office reports a Jamestown teenager was transported by air ambulance after being pinned under a car for about 12 minutes.

The accident occurred at 6:04-p.m., about three-fourths of a mile south of the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown, agravel road 84 Ave SE.

Sgt. Ramone Gumke, says there were four passengers in the car, all from Jamestown, two 13-year-olds and two 15-year-olds.

The driver, was not wearing a seat belt, and was ejected from the vehicle, which then rolled over.

The driver was transported by air ambulance to a Fargo hospital, and his condition was unknown Monday night.

A backseat passenger, the only other person not wearing a seat belt, was transported by Jamestown Ambulance to a Fargo hospital.

That passenger’s condition was also unknown Monday.

The other three passengers were treated and released from Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser says the extent of the injuries unknown at this time for the driver and the unrestrained passenger.

The vehicle was totaled.

The accident is still under investigation.

The Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown Police Department and North Dakota Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.

  

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP-CSi) – Two people sought in connection with one of several late-September church burglaries in Valley City are now in custody.

Warrants were issued late last month for 25-year-old Andrew Miklas, of Valley City, and 18-year-old Nicole Lindermann, of Kathryn, in connection with a burglary at Faith Lutheran Church.

Miklas was detained near Hillsboro on Thursday night.

Miklas is being held at Cass County Jail, charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary in Barnes County and possession of stolen property in Traill County. All charges are Class C felonies,

Miklas will be sent to Traill County first, then to Barnes County.

Court documents do not list an attorney for Miklas. Lindermann’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The burglary was part of a string of church break-ins the weekend of Sept. 28-29. Three other churches were targeted, along with Valley City’s public library.

 

Kathryn (CSi) — The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office reports a traffic and a farm accident that occurred over the weekend.

30 year old Karl Helland was injured operating a baler near Kathryn Saturday about 8:30-p.m.

His hand and part of his arm were pinned between two steel rollers.

He was extricated from the baler and taken to Mercy Hospital in Valley City for treatment of injuries.

Responding to the scene to assists the Sheriff’s Office, were Barnes County Rescue, Barnes County Ambulance, Kathryn First Responders, along with Litchville, and Hasting Fire Departments.

On Sunday morning about 7-O’Clock a 19-year-old Valley City man was injured when he lost control and rolled his Dodge Durango into a ditch northwest of Valley City.

He was cited for Care Required.

 

Carrington (CSi) Officials in Foster County announced that the county now has a reverse 9-1-1 system for county residents.

Reverse 9-1-1 system uses a database of telephone numbers and associated addresses that can be used to deliver recorded emergency notifications to a selected set of telephone service subscribers.

Foster County Emergency Manager, Teresa Risovi, says the service will be used in the event of an emergency.

The system is already being used for the Lake Juanita area in the event of severe weather, Carrington Public Works for water main breaks and the Carrington Fire Department uses revers 9-1-1 as a supplemental paging system.

The system was established by Global Connect, which was bought out by CodeRED, which is also operational in the area in Stutsman and Barnes Counties.

 

 ABERCROMBIE, N.D. (AP) – Fire has destroyed the office and drive-thru garage of a privately owned grain elevator in the southeastern North Dakota town of Abercrombie.
 
     Several large steel grain bins also were damaged in the early morning blaze Tuesday. All but one of the bins was empty.
 
     Eight area fire departments responded to the blaze. There was no immediate word on a possible cause.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota officials say the nation owes its military veterans gratitude that extends beyond the confines of the annual Veterans Day holiday.
 
State and federal officials addressed a crowd of more than 200 during the annual Veterans Day ceremony held inside the North Dakota Heritage Center.
 
     Gov. Jack Dalrymple says generations of patriots dating back to the nation’s founding have made sacrifices to ensure the quality of life Americans enjoy today.
 
     Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk (sprihn-suh-NAT’-ihk), the state National Guard commander, says about 65 of every 10,000 North Dakotans serve in the National Guard, a rate several times higher than the national average.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Fargo surgeon acquitted last year of charges he drugged and raped his wife has started practicing again. The Forum reports the Sanford Orthopedics Clinic in Fargo released a statement Monday saying Dr. Jon Norberg returned to practice earlier this month at Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. A jury found the 43-year-old Norberg not guilty last year of gross sexual imposition and reckless endangerment. Norberg had been accused by his former wife.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – State wildlife officials say there is no way to know for sure whether a mountain lion that was shot and killed south of Bismarck is the same one spotted near an area elementary school. A deer hunter killed the 85-pound female lion on Friday. Students at the school were kept indoors at times last week as a precaution.

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The federal government has given the city of Minot approval to spend about $20 million in flood recovery grant money.
 
     The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved the city’s plan for spending the money, which is part of a $35 million grant award announced earlier.
 
     The city devastated by Souris River flooding in June 2011 is planning to use the money for property buyouts, road repairs and to help homeowners with repair expenses.
 
     The state also has received permission to spend part of a $6.6 million federal grant. The state proposes to provide $3.2 million to a developer for housing for low- and moderate-income residents in Minot.
 
     The 2011 flood damaged or destroyed more than 4,000 homes, businesses and other structures in North Dakota’ fourth-largest city.

 

 FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) – A commission formed as part of a law to combat crime on American Indian reservations is set to release a report on public safety in Indian Country. The Indian Law and Order Commission traveled around the country to hear from tribal leaders on criminal jurisdiction, courts, grant funding and other topics. Among the panel’s recommendations is giving tribes more control over crimes on their land.
 

 

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Wheat Commission and the U.S. Durum Growers Association are holding an annual forum in Minot.
 
     The Crop Outlook and International Durum Forum was scheduled Tuesday at the Holiday Inn. The one-day conference is aimed at helping farmers make decisions on marketing this year’s wheat crops and planting next year’s.
 
     This year’s luncheon speaker is author and retired farm news broadcaster Al Gustin.

   FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The best curling teams from around the country are in North Dakota competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic teams. The first stones were thrown Sunday night at Scheels Arena in Fargo. The trials run through this coming weekend. Five men’s teams and four women’s teams are competing.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers blew a 15-0, first-half lead last night before becoming the last NFL team to earn a victory this season. Bobby Rainey scored the go-ahead touchdown on a one-yard run with 10:19 left, capping an 80-yard drive that leaves the Bucs 1-8. Ryan Tannehill tossed a pair of TD passes to Rishard Matthews, but the Dolphins gained just two yards on 14 carries and fell to 4-5.
 
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says he plans to meet with Miami offensive tackle Jonathan Martin tomorrow. Ross says he’s appalled by Martin’s allegations of daily harassment by teammate, including suspended player Richie Incognito. A special investigator for the league will determine whether Incognito harassed Martin, and whether the Dolphins mishandled the matter.

 LOS ANGELES (AP) – Blake Griffin had 25 points as the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-107 last night after Kevin Love missed a tip-in at the buzzer. Kevin Martin missed a jumper that Nikola Pekovic rebounded only to miss the layup. Love grabbed the ball and missed again to end the Wolves’ two-game winning streak.

The Indiana Pacers have become the NBA’s seventh team since 2000 to open the season with eight straight victories.
     Paul George scored 23 points and Lance Stephenson posted his first career triple-double as the Pacers hammered Memphis 95-79.

Derrick Rose had 16 points and seven assists before leaving with a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of Chicago’s 96-81 verdict over Cleveland. Rose calls it a minor injury, and the Bulls say he will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.

 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Joe Mauer will be moving from catcher to first base on a full-time basis for the Minnesota Twins. Mauer missed the last six weeks of the season recovering from a concussion. Mauer and the organization agreed the move was in the best interest of his long-term health given the inherent injury risks behind the plate.

  NEW YORK (AP) – The National and American League rookies of the year were announced yesterday, and both winners play in Florida. The NL Rookie of the Year award goes to Miami pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 172 2/3 innings. Outfielder Wil Myers is the AL’s top rookie after hitting .293 with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs in 88 games following his recall on June 18.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Don Mattingly will return as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers next season, along with most of his coaching staff.
 
     Tim Wallach was named the new bench coach, moving over from third base to replace Trey Hillman, who was fired last month. Mattingly returns for his fourth season with general manager Ned Colletti making no announcement about a possible contract extension. Mattingly’s option worth $1.4 million vested with the team’s first-round playoff victory over Atlanta.

ATLANTA (AP) – Mayor Kasim Reed says there was no way the Atlanta Braves were going to stay in downtown without city taxpayers spending hundreds of millions of dollars.
 
     In a statement Monday, Reed said the city was unwilling to match an offer put together by nearby Cobb County given the needs facing Atlanta.
 
     In a stunning announcement, the Braves said Monday they’re moving in 2017 to a new 42,000-seat, $672 million stadium about 10 miles from downtown in suburban Cobb County, apparently swayed by a lucrative financial package that was just too good to pass up.
 
     Reed said the city couldn’t match a $450 million offer from one of Atlanta’s sprawling northern suburbs.

 LAKE FOREST, Ill. ( AP) -Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson took part with the team in a light practice on Monday and apologized afterward for the attention he brought to the organization over the weekend following his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

(AP)  The Chicago Bears say quarterback Jay Cutler will miss Sunday’s game against Baltimore with a high ankle sprain and will be replaced by Josh McCown. The Bears also say top cornerback Charles Tillman will be out for the next two months with a triceps injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to Detroit.

     Defending champion Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) beat top-ranked Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-EHL’ nah-DAHL’) 6-3, 6-4 to win the ATP World Tour Finals, extending his winning streak to 22 matches and claiming the season-ending title for the third time.
 
     Djokovic has not lost a match since his defeat to Nadal in the U.S. Open final. Nadal hit only nine winners and was broken three times.

 TACLOBAN, Philippines (AP) – It’s apparently just as tough getting into the hardest hit areas in the Philippines in the wake of the killer typhoon as it is to get out. There are medical supplies, pallets of water and food waiting to be delivered, but of the millions of victims, few have gotten any help yet. And of thousands who mobbed the airport in Tacloban (tahk-LOH’-bahn), only a few hundred were able to board outbound planes.
 
     BEIJING (AP) – China’s leaders have concluded a major, four-day planning meeting with a promise of a bigger role for the free market in the country’s state-dominated economy. In a brief statement, Communist Party leaders trying to overhaul a worn-out growth model also say state ownership will still remain a pillar of the economy.
 
     LOS ANGELES (AP) – Rising home values, low interest rates and stable job gains have translated to an improvement in the number of late-paying mortgage holders. The percentage of mortgage holders at least two months behind on their payments fell to a five-year low in the July-September quarter, coming in at 4.09 percent.
 
     LOGANVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Authorities in Georgia say a 2-year-old girl is in critical condition and in an induced coma after gasoline sparked a fire on a slide where she and her sister were playing. Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman says deputies believe one of the girls poured gasoline on the outdoor slide to make it more slippery and it ignited.
 
     WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Someday, computer users may never need to memorize another password. That’s the goal of researchers at Purdue University’s International Center for Biometrics Research. Researcher Stephen Elliott says iris and fingerprint scans as well as facial and voice recognition are just a few of the tools being worked on to improve security while making lives easier.
