BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple has directed all state government agencies to fly the American and state flags at half-staff as the country marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Dalrymple’s proclamation is in accordance with a directive from President Barack Obama. It’s in effect from sunrise to sunset Friday. The governor also is encouraging state residents to fly flags at half-staff at their homes and businesses.

Dalrymple says Kennedy left “an indelible print” on America, and lowering flags honors “his service to this country and his enduring legacy.”
