There was no fire. The smoke coming from the garage area was from a wood burning stove.
Jamestown (CSi) Prairie Paws Rescue is still selling sponsorships for $100 for the “Raise the Woof Comedy Tour” . The sponsor will also get two tickets to the show.
On Monday’s (Feb 24, 2014) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President and Co-Founder of Prairie Paws Rescue Kaye John said ticket sales are going well, and more sponsors are welcome.
Prairie Paws is raising money for a used vehicle to transport animals and equipment.
She says the vehicle is essential to animal rescues which is used it to get equipment and animals to meet and greet events, transporting animals to vet appointments, and picking up dogs from area pounds on death row to get them either to Prairie Paws or to other reliable havens.
She adds, the old van is a hazard to volunteers and pets as there is no heat, electrical doesn’t work with no ability to adjust seats, dome lights and most important no headlights for night time travel. The van is also used to bring animals to Meet and Greet Events around the area.
The standup comedy troup, “Raise the Woof Comedy Tour” will perform:
8 pm February 28, 2014
Gladstone Inn , Shady’s, Jamestown, ND
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m., for those 21 years of age, and older.
The comedy show only performs for shelter fundraising.
She pointed out that there will be three acts, with intermissions at which time there will be raffle drawings, plus there will be silent auctions.
She added that there will be a silent auction including tickets to the police departments upcoming Pam Tillis Concert in Jamestown. Other items include Theme Baskets, and a Ford clock donated by R.M. Stoudt.
Raffles will include WeFest Tickets, with entries from the $10 purchase of a Prairie Paws Rescue mug
Tickets are $10 each in advance from sponsors or $15 the day of the show, available at area veterinary clinics, R.M. Stoudt, Big Dog Country or from Prairie Paws Rescue volunteers.
Kaye also notes that CMA,ACM and Grammy Award winner and Country Artist Miranda Lambert’s MUTT NATION FOUNDATION…has donated $3000 to Prairie Paws for the help of defraying the cost. Lambert is a friend of Kaye John. The fundraiser goal is between $7,000 and $8,000 for the van.
Prairie Paws has monthly Meet and Greet events at Jamestown Tractor Supply company the 2nd Saturday of every month from 10am-2pm. She adds, the events have been a great way for people to come out and visit the pets.
Right now Prairie Paws has 32 pets in their foster home based rescue.
On line, visit www.PrairiePawsRescue.com and view animals for adoption.
Other donations are welcome, at Post Office box 1114 in Jamestown 58402, and look for donation jars at various locations
Kaye also said that on November 1, 2014, Prairie Paws Rescue will again host the Paw-Sta-Paloosa, fundraiser, with more information later.
On another notes she pointed out that area veteranarian clinic are offering discounts and spaying or neutering pets.
This week the offer is being made by Country Acres in Jamestown.
RICHARDTON, N.D. (AP) – The eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 in southwestern North Dakota were closed to traffic for several hours early Monday after a semitrailer crash.
The Highway Patrol says the semi driver fell asleep shortly after 3:30 a.m. and crashed into a guardrail and a cement overpass support structure. Thirty-eight-year-old Ryan Bowman, of Salt Lake City, was taken to a Dickinson hospital with unspecified injuries.
I-94 was closed near Richardton and traffic detoured while Bowman was removed from the semitrailer, and while the wreckage was cleared from the scene. The eastbound lanes reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot-area authorities arrested three people and confiscated a large amount of methamphetamine after a reported burglary that involved gunshots.
The Ward County Sheriff’s Department says a Minot resident early Sunday reported that his residence had been burglarized by people who had fired shots at him, and that he had returned fire.
Deputies a short time later stopped a vehicle for speeding and determined the people inside were tied to the burglary. The deputies also seized nearly 1 pound of meth worth nearly $100,000 on the street.
Three men from the Minot and Balfour areas were arrested on drug and weapons charges. Formal charges were not immediately filed.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Gas drive-offs have become more common in the western North Dakota oil patch hub of Williston as the region’s population booms.
One station, West Side Fuel, reported more than $34,000 in losses in 2012 due to drive-offs, in which people fuel up their vehicles and then drive off without paying.
The station last year implemented a policy in which potential customers have to provide identification before the store will turn on a pump, but employee Myla Hallgrimson says thieves are now turning to fake or stolen IDs. The Williston Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1fn5yP0 ) that the station last year still had about $6,300 in gas drive-off losses – and a growing collection of discarded IDs.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Oil-rich North Dakota is socking away billions of dollars in tax revenue and residents increasingly are questioning where it’s going.
North Dakota Treasurer Kelly Schmidt says her agency launched a link on its website last week to help people track various funds and see how the money is being used.
Schmidt says about 40 state funds are being tracked. She says residents will be able to see fund balances and how the money is being managed.
Schmidt says the information will be updated quarterly.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Public Service Commission says it recently fined four companies for damages to gas lines and an electric cable that occurred during excavation projects in Mandan and Minot.
Officials say the $1,000 and $2,000 fines highlight the importance of the state’s “Call Before You Dig” law.
State law requires excavators to contact a state “one-call” center at least 48 hours before digging, so the center can notify them of any pipelines, telephone or electrical lines, or other utility facilities buried in the area. Residents and contractors can contact one-call by calling 8-1-1 or 1-800-795-0555, or by visiting www.ndonecall.com .
Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk says that with record growth in North Dakota in both construction and underground infrastructure, it’s imperative for everyone to call before they dig.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Some Democratic lawmakers want Gov. Jack Dalrymple to call a special session of the Legislature to address problems tied to western North Dakota’s oil boom.
The lawmakers contended in a letter to Dalrymple on Monday that development problems can’t wait for the start of the 2015 Legislature in January.
The letter was signed by Senate Democratic Minority Leader Mac Schneider, House Minority Leader Kenton Onstad, and Sen. John Warner.
The three legislators say current funding levels aren’t keeping pace with development in the region.
North Dakota’s newfound oil riches have resulted in unprecedented demands for spending on roads, schools, public works, law enforcement and emergency medical services. The state’s current two-year budget including federal aid is $14 billion, or about $10 billion more than a decade ago.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy has agreed to visit North Dakota.
Heitkamp says McCarthy will join her in the Bismarck area on Friday to talk about such topics as coal and ethanol.
Heitkamp says it’s an opportunity for North Dakotans to have their voices heard on EPA policies and proposals impacting the state.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – The Williston State College hockey team has won a second straight National Junior College Athletic Association championship.
The Tetons skated to a 2-0 win over Monroe Community College of New York on Sunday to take the crown.
Williston State also beat Monroe in last year’s title game.
The Tetons outscored both of their opponents at the NJCAA Frozen Four in Troy, N.Y. They won their first game 7-0 over Erie in Saturday’s semifinals. Sophomore goalie Tyler Ampe got both shutouts and was named tournament MVP.
In world and national news…
WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House says the whereabouts of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych (yah-noo-KOH’-vich) have not been confirmed, but that Yanukovych is not “actively leading the country.” White House spokesman Jay Carney says the Obama administration believes the Ukrainian parliament has lawfully elected a new speaker. The parliament’s speaker has been acting as the government’s interim leader in the wake of the wave of protests that prompted Yanukovich to flee the capital of Kiev.
WASHINGTON (AP) – Governors have broken into a partisan on-camera feud at the White House after meeting with President Barack Obama. Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal said if Obama were serious about growing the economy he would approve the Keystone XL pipeline project and take other action. But he said Obama “seems to be waving the white flag of surrender” on the economy by focusing on a minimum wage increase. Democrat Dannel Malloy of Connecticut responded that the white flag statement was “insane,” while Colorado’s John Hickenlooper called Jindal a “cheap shot artist.”
SOUTHGATE, Mich. (AP) – Debbie Dingell isn’t saying whether she will run for the Michigan congressional seat now held by her husband, Democrat John Dingell — who announced Monday that he is retiring after nearly 60 years in the House of Representatives. He’s the longest-serving member of Congress in history. Dingell, who is 87, says his 60-year-old wife will have his vote if she decides to run.
CHICAGO (AP) – The government’s largest study of Hispanics’ health aims to answer why they live longer than other Americans, but the first results suggest that trend might be in jeopardy, especially among certain groups. Overall, high rates of high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes were found, especially among older adults. But troubling signs were seen among younger Hispanics, who were the least likely to have diabetes under treatment and well controlled. The landmark study has followed more than 16,000 Hispanics since 2008.
