Jamestown (CSi) At 11-a.m., this Saturday registration starts for is the 36th Annual, Runnin’ O’ the Green in Jamestown.

The first flight of runners will leave the registration area of the Frontier Fort at 2-p..m., every ten minutes. All participants must be at least 21 years of age.

On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, founder, Larry Knoblich said, he’s hoping for good weather this year, with 2013 being an exceptionally cold run, that followed unseasonably warm temperatures in 2012.

This Saturday the forecast calls for a mostly cloudy sky …low 15 high 30.

He added that this year’s run includes 10 bars, starting at the Frontier Fort and finishing at Shady’s at the Gladstone Inn & Suites.

Included this year is Los Molcajetes, which has been added after the cards were printed.

Other establishment on the run, in order, are:

The Buff, Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the Wonder Bar Sports Bar, the Corner Bar, the Office and the All Vets Club.

Pre-registration for the 36th annual Runnin O’ the Green is $30, which includes a T-shirt.

Registration on the day of the race is $10, which doesn’t include a T-shirt.

Participants must be 21 years old, and should carry their IDs.

Register before Saturday at the Knights of Columbus, The Buff, Wildside Creations, The Elks Club, and Cork & Barrell.

Knoblich added that pre-registering allows runners to already have the wrist band and name tags, and go directly to the first stop.

This year, individuals will be able to register late at some stops along the route, where volunteers from the Elkettes will be stationed.

Knoblich pointed out that again this year, proceeds from the run go to local cancer patients, to help pay bills not covered by insurance, and the Elks Camp Grassick, which in the past has received more than $20,000 from the run. The money for the camp has purchased beds, mattresses, life jackets and fire extinguishers.

He pointed out that 13 cancer patients, are on the list, with the goal to give each individual $500 for medical expenses. It’s also hoped that the run will raise $25,000 for the Elks, Camp Grassick.

Knoblich said this year’s run memorializes Jim Carlascio, a veteran and long-time community volunteer who passed away in July of 2013.

The 2014 Runnin O’ the Green T-shirt features an Irish flag, and “Jim’stown, ND.”

For more information or to download a registration form, on line, visit www.runninothegreen.com http://www.runninothegreen.com.

Forms can be mailed, along with the entry fee, to Wildside Creations Inc., 103 4th St. NE, Jamestown. Checks should be addressed to the Jamestown Elks #995.

First responders will be on stand-by in case they are needed, and all but Jamestown Police Department detectives will be on duty, at some point during the day, either uniformed or plain clothes.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department, and North Dakota Highway Patrol will have extra patrol units on the highways.

Last year, Jamestown Police Chief, Scott Edinger estimated that about 62 arrests and citations occurred during the 2013 run, but with fewer participants because of the cold weather.

Most of the arrested stemmed from urinating in public, 3, open alcoholic containers, outside of the designated areas, 34, minor in possession, 13, DUI, 1, Disorderly conduct, 7, drug arrests 4, and some littering fines.

Knoblich stresses that any beverage will count, and drinking alcoholic beverages is NOT a requirement, adding to drink alcohol in moderation.

Knoblich said there will be plenty of portable restrooms and garbage cans out along the route and near establishments taking part in the run.

He asks that runners ‘Keep an eye on each other,’ concerning potential vandalism or other illegal acts.

Bar workers should be prepared to handle 2,000 participants through the event, and bars, early in the run should expect a larger crowd the first two hours, later bars in the run will be busy until closing.

Motorists, and others need to be patient, with the runners and participants need to careful where they area walking while in traffic areas.

The 2013 Runnin’ O’ the Green will be back on CSi-10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, with the Retro Replays, starting Thursday March 13, 2014. The 2014 event will be recorded for playback on CSi-10.

Officials say Lt. Jeff Skuza (SKOO’-zah) died Tuesday morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities say Skuza phoned police dispatchers at about 4:30 a.m. and asked them to send officers to the Holy Cross Cemetery south of Fargo, were his body was discovered.

     No further details were released.

Skuza joined the force as a patrol officer in October 1991. He was promoted to sergeant in January 2001 and lieutenant in March 2011.

Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes says Skuza was a consummate professional and his death has impacted everyone in the department. He says a crisis intervention team is available to help employees with counseling and other needs.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Students at a North Dakota school that was shut down after a fire allegedly set by the school’s principal have returned to classes in other buildings.

The 250 students at Trinity High School are spread out among two elementary schools, a junior high school and a church. They had a week off from classes before returning Monday.

Students and staff say they’re trying to stay positive. Senior Austin Deichert says the atmosphere “is still like a Trinity family.”

Thirty-year-old principal Thomas Sander is due back in court April 21. He could enter pleas then to charges of felony arson and endangering by fire or explosion.

Sander could face as much as 20 years in prison if convicted. He still does not have a listed defense attorney.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Less than 50 percent of people living in North and South Dakota eligible to sign up for health care coverage under the nation’s new marketplace have selected a plan.

In North Dakota, where 10,394 people are eligible to pick a plan, slightly more than 5,200 have done so during the marketplace’s first five months.

The percentage of enrollees is even smaller in South Dakota. A federal report released Tuesday shows that nearly 7,000 people of the more than 16,000 who qualify have selected a plan.

North and South Dakota are two of 36 states relying on the federal HealthCare.gov website to sign people up for insurance. Technical problems with the website have kept many people from signing up.

But time is running out. The open enrollment period ends March 31.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Former North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson has been re-elected president of the National Farmers Union.

Johnson has led the group since 2009, after heading North Dakota’s Agriculture Department for a dozen years. He says he’s grateful for the opportunity to serve two more years as National Farmers Union president.

Kansas Farmers Union President Donn Teske was elected vice president of the national group.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Voters in North Dakota’s largest city have rejected a measure that would have allowed the school district to keep its current mill levy intact.

The special election Tuesday in Fargo asked voters to maintain the city’s 139 general fund mill levy, with the possibility of 11 more if needed. The state says school each district must be capped at 70 mills by 2015, unless voters say otherwise.

Unofficial results show that 2,594 voters approved the measure, or 43 percent, and 3.486 people opposed the idea, or 57 percent.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – Watford City residents have overwhelming approved a $27 million bond measure to help pay for a $50 million high school.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – Hospitals are planning multimillion-dollar upgrades in two growing cities in western North Dakota’s oil patch.

McKenzie County Healthcare Systems plans to replace its hospital in Watford City with a $58 million facility. The Mountrail County Health Center in Stanley is upgrading its hospital emergency room and nursing home and expanding its clinic in a $6.3 million project.

Both projects are aimed at dealing with population growth tied to the oil boom in the region

In Watford City, emergency room visits have increased five-fold since 2006. Officials say trauma visits have increased from a couple per month to a couple per week.

In Stanley, officials say the demand for emergency room services has grown by more than 50 percent.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A planning group in the North Dakota oil patch says ferrying cars and trucks across Lake Sakakawea could help relieve high traffic and accidents in the area.

The Vision West Consortium voted last week to study whether funding a ferry is a viable option. The group says in recent years increased traffic from the oil boom has led to higher accident and fatality rates on highways in the area.

Vision West members say the ferry will likely be limited to passenger cars and light trucks. They say excluding semi-trucks, oil tankers and other heavy trucks should spread out traffic on the highways.

The ferry would also help bridge the two sides of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Vikings have finalized contracts with Everson Griffen and quarterback Matt Cassel that they agreed to over the weekend. Griffen was almost beside himself with excitement in talking about his future as a full-time defensive end under new head coach Mike Zimmer. Griffen said he “just knew this was the right place” for him.

The Chicago Bears released eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers, eliminating an $18 million salary cap hit. Peppers finished with just seven sacks, his lowest total in four seasons with Chicago and the fewest for him since he had a career-low 2  1/2 with Carolina in 2007.

The Dallas Cowboys made room under the salary cap by releasing DeMarcus Ware.

Jonathan Martin, the offensive tackle at the center of the Miami Dolphins’ bullying scandal, has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers for an undisclosed draft pick.

In world and national news…

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) – The Malaysian request today that India help in the search for a missing airliner is for an area far to the northwest of the plane’s  last reported position. It’s seen as a further sign that authorities have no idea where the plane might be more than four days after it vanished on a flight to Beijing with 239 people aboard.

GENEVA (AP) – The global airlines industry says rising jet fuel prices will impede 2014 profit, but it’s still expected to be a record-breaking year. The International Air Transport Association, which represents 240 airlines, says the profit this year is expected to be $18.7 billion, a downgrade from the $19.7 billion it forecast in December. The old record is $17.3 billion, earned in 2010.

BERLIN (AP) – NATO surveillance aircraft are being careful to stay out of Russian and Ukrainian air space as they monitor the crisis in Kiev and the Crimea. The military alliance says two AWACS reconnaissance planes took off from bases in Germany and Britain but will stay over member nations Poland and Romania. The planes can observe 115,000 square miles.

JERUSALEM (AP) – A drive for reforms that has seen mass protests in Israel and beyond is one step closer to implementation. Israeli lawmakers passed a contentious law today meant to draft ultra-Orthodox Jews into the military. The issue is at the heart of a cultural war in Israel where the ultra-Orthodox, about 8 percent of Israel’s citizens, have largely been allowed to avoid military service in favor of religious studies.

LONDON (AP) – The British inventor of the World Wide Web wants to ignite a global conversation about the need to defend principles that have made the Web successful.  Speaking on the 25th anniversary of his creation, Tim Berners-Lee tells the Guardian newspaper he wants a digital bill of rights to protect users from surveillance.
