Jamestown (CSi) A Jamestown man has been sentenced in Southeast District Court in Jamestown, to 54 days in jail on charges of arson and criminal conspiracy.
Derek Lee Carlson, pleaded guilty to the charges under a plea arrangement before Judge Jay Schmitz.
Carlson was sentenced to one year and one day in prison with all but 60 days suspended and credit for six days already served. He was placed on probation for three years and ordered to pay fees and restitution totaling $10,700.
Carlson was accused of starting or maintaining a fire with intent to destroy the building for the purpose of collecting insurance for the loss on November 9, 2012,
at 616 2nd Avenue, Northwest in Jamestown. The house was completely destroyed.
He was also accused of conspiring with another to commit the crime of arson in events occurring from Nov. 1, 2012, to Nov. 28, 2012. Both charges are Class B felonies.
On January 31, 2014 Mary Kay Carlson was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of probation on charges related to the same fire.
A Class B felony is punishable by 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
