Jamestown (CSi) The South Central Dakota Regional Council Board of Directors has accepted a $125,000 offer from the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) to buy out the council’s portion of the Center for Economic Development building.
SCDRC Executive Committee President,Joseph Neis, says the JSDC made the offer based on an appraisal commissioned by the JSDC that was completed in January for the Center for Economic Development building for $470,000.
The Regional Councilwould have an agreement with the JSDC to lease office space here until we find a new space.
Neis said the subcommittee of the executive committee is looking at building options, but a new location for the SCDRC has not been selected.
The SCDRC, JSDC and Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce own the Center for Economic Development building. The JSDC owns 50 percent of the building, the SCDRC owns 32 percent and the chamber owns 18 percent.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority has rejected all bids on construction of a nine bay T-hangar building and accepted a recommendation from its General Aviation Committee to seek bids on a smaller hangar.
The authority received seven bids for the nine-bay T-hangar building last month. The bids ranged from $989,000 to $1.4 million, well over the engineer’s estimated project cost of $917,000.
Interstate Engineering Project Engineer, Steve Aldinger, says Airport Authority members Keith Veil and Jeff Wilhelm met with Aldinger and the project’s architect to review what changes could be made to the T-hangar building that would reduce costs.
The Airport Authority has approved a $15,000 supplemental services agreement with Interstate Engineering to cover costs for coming up with bid specifications for the new T-hangar building and advertising for bids.

On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, spokesmen Craig Mehlhaff, and Brent Olson said proceeds support children’s programs, and operations of the local organization.
Tickets are adults $15, Children 6-12 year old $5, and six and under will be admitted free.
Tickets are available from any El Zagal Mystic member or at the door.
Mehlhaff said the menu will consist of cod fish fillet, parsley potato, baked beans, with buns, ice cream, and coffee milk and Coke for a beverage.
The event supplies include about 350 pounds of cod, as between 500 and 600 portions are expected to be served.
The organization thanks Andrea & Carl Huus owners of Shady’s for providing the use of their kitchen, and Banquet Rooms, for the annual fish fry.

Jamestown (CSi) A reminder from the City of Jamestown,due to the changing weather conditions causing extremely muddy conditions in the alleys (despite the recent freezing temperatures), the City Sanitation Department announces that effective this past Monday, March 17, 2014, the City Sanitation crews are no longer be picking up garbage in the alleyways.
Until further notice , please place garbage containers on the boulevard no further than 3’ from the curb on your scheduled pick up day.

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (AP) – Officials with the U.S. Air Force have identified the man who was found dead at the Minot Air Force Base this week. Senior Airman Chase Wathen was found dead in his base residence Monday night. Wathen was a cable plant journeyman with the 5th Communications Squadron.
FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) – Federal agents are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in Fort Totten.
The man’s cause and manner of death have not been determined. An FBI spokesman says an autopsy has been scheduled.
The 21-year-old man was found dead over the weekend. Authorities have not identified him publicly.
Law enforcement officials with the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are also participating in the investigation.
The newspaper reports no arrests have been made on the case.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck-area authorities are searching for a man wanted on numerous warrants in the Minot area.
Authorities say 35-year-old Dustin Goettle (GEHT’-uhl) failed to show up for a Ward County court hearing this month. Bismarck police and Burleigh County officers chased him on Tuesday but called off the pursuit for safety reasons.
Police believe Goettle threw a handgun out of the window of his vehicle during the chase. They recovered a gun that had been stolen in Mobridge, S.D., in February.
Goettle faces drug, weapon and fleeing charges and could get life in prison if caught and convicted.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Prosecutors say a North Dakota man accused of killing his cousin should be sentenced to life in prison.
Twenty-four-year-old Daniel Greatwalker Jr., of Belcourt, pleaded guilty in November to second-degree murder and altering evidence. Authorities say Perry Caske Picotte died in November 2012 after suffering 31 stab wounds to his neck and upper body.
Prosecutors say Greatwalker should spend the rest of his life behind bars because of the heinous nature of the crime and his history of violent offenses and gang affiliation.
Defensive attorneys are asking a judge to consider a lesser sentence because of Greatwalker’s troubled childhood and exposure to violence. His father, Daniel Greatwalker Sr., was convicted in 2002 of killing Linus Wallette by beating him with a pickax, knife and hammer.
Sentencing is scheduled this afternoon.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Senator John Hoeven and Canada’s ambassador to the United States are continuing their push for quick approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Hoeven and Canadian Ambassador Gary Doer (DOO’-ur) met with North Dakota trade representatives Wednesday in Bismarck. They say TransCanada’s proposed pipeline will help provide energy security and economic growth for both nations.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A state health official says it’s doubtful that people responsible for illegally dumped oil field waste in northwestern North Dakota will be found.
North Dakota Environmental Health Chief Dave Glatt (glaht) says officials are attempting to get approval to use state funds to clean up the site. But that may take at least two more weeks.
Officials earlier this month reported the illegal dumping of radioactive oil filter socks in an abandoned building in Noonan.
Authorities have no leads on who may have left the filters in the building. They say the building’s owner would have to pay for the cleanup but he was charged with felony larceny in an unrelated incident and has yet to be located.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Turmoil in Ukraine is causing concern for some North Dakota companies that do business in the former Soviet Republic.
Fargo-based Amity Technology has been operating in Ukraine for nearly two decades. CEO Howard Dahl just returned from a trip to the country and says the atmosphere there is somber.
Titan Machinery International Marketing Director Olga Hall says history has shown that instability in Ukraine results in people not buying anything.
The North Dakota Trade Office maintains a full-time Ukrainian trade representative. North Dakota exports to the Ukraine last year totaled $22 million.
Sen. John Hoeven traveled to Ukraine last weekend. He says the U.S. needs to enact “smart” sanctions that deter Russian aggression in Ukraine but don’t hurt the economies of the U.S. or its allies.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A state health official says cleanup of an oil train derailment on the outskirts of a small southeastern North Dakota town “is all but complete.”
Federal investigators determined that 400,000 gallons of oil was lost in December when a BNSF train derailed and caught fire near Casselton.
State Environmental Health Chief Dave Glatt (glaht) says regulators inspected the site Wednesday. He says about 10,000 tons of dirt and other material has been removed from the crash site.
Glatt says contractors now have permission to begin backfilling the site with new soil.
Glatt says the state will be monitoring groundwater at the site for at least two more years.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – An overhaul of the runways at Bismarck’s airport will begin this year.
The airport’s main runway will undergo mill and overlay work to ensure that the surface lasts between three and five more years.
Airport manager Greg Haug says most airlines will use the cross-wind runway while the primary one is under repair in September.
Haug says three Allegiant flights will have to be canceled during the 11 days that the repairs will last because the alternate runways are not strong enough to handle those airplanes.
The newspaper reports the main runway has significant cracking, signs of pavement failure and differential vertical movement.
Upgrades to the cross-wind runway could begin in 2015. This runway is expected to be strengthened and possibly widened.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The state Capitol halls are being turned into a shopping mall as more than 50 Pride of Dakota companies showcase their wares.
The Bismarck statehouse is hosting Pride of Dakota Day on Thursday. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says everything from food to jewelry to art will be showcased. The booths will fill the Capitol’s Memorial Hall, Legislative Hall and west end ground floor.
More than 500 North Dakota companies are members of the Pride of Dakota branding program. The annual meeting is Thursday and Friday at the Bismarck Ramada.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple has proclaimed March as Pride of Dakota Month and Thursday as Pride of Dakota Day.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo mayor and longtime city official Dennis Walaker has a challenger.
City commissioner Brad Wimmer, who has served alongside Walaker for eight years, is holding a news conference Thursday morning to announce he’s running for mayor in North Dakota’s largest city.
Wimmer previously served for eight years on the Fargo park board. He recently finished his term as president of the North Dakota League of Cities.
Walaker, who worked as Fargo’s public works director for many years, is running for a third term, the maximum allowed by city statute.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Five players have been selected as finalists for the North Dakota Miss Basketball award.
Central Cass center Faith Dooley and Thompson post Shannon Galegher are playing this weekend at the state Class B girls basketball tournament. The remaining three players led their teams to the state Class A tournament.
Other finalists are Jamestown center Paige Peterson, Bismarck forward Keisha Engelhardt and West Fargo guard-forward Cassidy Thorson.
The award will be presented at the conclusion of the state Class B tournament. It is given annually by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association to the top girls basketball player in the state.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Contending for a Big 12 regular season title and earning a respectable seed in the NCAA tournament was all supposed to come a year from now for Oklahoma, when it wouldn’t rely so heavily on inexperienced players. While the Sooners on youthful, the Bison are all about experience. The Bison will start three seniors, led by Summit League player of the year Taylor Braun tonight.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A formula developed by students and faculty in the statistics department at North Dakota State University has Arizona beating Virginia in the championship game of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament.
The model takes into account strength of schedule and seasonal averages in statistical categories such as assists, turnovers and defensive rebounds.
It shows that NDSU has a 32 percent chance of knocking off favored Oklahoma in Thursday’s first game, which is close to the historical averages for a Number 5 seed beating a Number 12 seed.
Three Number One seeds are predicted to reach the final four in Arizona, Virginia and Florida. The other projected semifinal qualifier is Louisville, a Number 4 seed.
The figures compiled for the women’s tournament show Connecticut topping Notre Dame in the championship.

DALLAS (AP) – Kevin Love scored 35 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves blew several leads before hanging on for a 123-122 victory over the Dallas Mavericks last night. The Timberwolves broke a six-game stretch of alternating wins and losses with their second straight victory to move two games over .500. Dirk Nowitzki scored 27 for Dallas.
NEW YORK (AP) – Carmelo Anthony scored 34 points and the New York Knicks opened the Phil Jackson era by beating the Indiana Pacers 92-86 for their season-high seventh straight victory. Jackson, their new team president, was watching from a midcourt seat.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Minnesota goaltender Adam Wilcox is among five finalists for the inaugural Mike Richter Award honoring the top goalie in NCAA hockey. Wilcox was named the first-ever Big Ten Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year. Wilcox leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally in wins, save percentage and goals against average.

UNDATED (AP)- The first full day of the 64-team NCAA men’s basketball tournament is today with 16 games at various venues around the country. Florida, the Number-1 overall seed, plays Albany this afternoon (4:40 p.m. Eastern time) in a first-round game in the South Region in Orlando, Fla.

Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman was hit in the face by a line drive and taken off the field on a cart.
Chapman was struck by Salvador Perez’s drive with two outs in the sixth inning of the Reds’ game against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. The pitcher crumbled to the ground, face down and flailing his legs. Medical personnel, including Royals Dr. Vincent Key, rushed the field. The game was called with KC leading 6-3.
NFL…
NFL owners likely will consider expanding the playoffs by two teams when they hold their spring meetings in Orlando next week, but a vote on the subject is uncertain. A groundswell for raising the number of playoff qualifiers to seven in each conference figures to get plenty of support from the 32 owners. Such an expansion could occur as early as next season.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) – Officials say visibility is poor in the area where four military planes are searching to determine whether two large objects bobbing in a remote part of the Indian Ocean are debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight. Australian authorities say one of the planes has had no luck so far, peering through clouds and rain.
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel (AHN’-geh-lah MEHR’-kuhl) tells her country’s parliament that the European Union is planning to up the ante on Russia sanctions and that the G-8 forum of leading economies has been suspended indefinitely. The EU begins a summit later today to discuss Russia’s actions in Crimea.
BRUSSELS (AP) – The European Union is moving closer to its goal of creating a banking union that is meant to stabilize the financial system and make it easier to deal with troubled banks. After all night negotiations lasting into today, EU member states and parliament broke a deadlock on how to set up a joint authority that can restructure or shut down failing banks.
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) – An Army general who admitted breaking military law during improper relationships with three subordinates is expected to learn his punishment today. Prosecutors want Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sinclair to be thrown out of the Army and to lose his military benefits. The defense says that would harm his innocent wife and children the most. Prosecutors are not asking for jail time.
BEIJING (AP) – First Lady Michelle Obama has begun a weeklong visit to China. She plans to avoid politics and focus on education and people-to-people contacts. Mrs. Obama’s schedule includes a speech to Chinese and American students at Peking University and visits to cities in the west and southwest. She is traveling with her mother and two daughters. She’ll also spend time with the wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng).
