Jamestown (CSi) The James River Family Y is taking sign ups for the Spring Session.
On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, the Y’s Executive Director, Frank Conlin said, brochures are available at the front desk at the Y.
He pointed out that starting March 31, 2014 spring swimming lessons start, adding, there will be life guard training in April, and on May 5th the summer schedule starts with outdoor boot camps and Battle Ropes in city parks.
In April, the University of Jamestown Volley Ball coach and players will host a youth volleyball tournament at the Y.
Conlin said the youth basketball tournament at the Y last Saturday, had 80- teams of 3rd – 8th grade students from the region.
Earlier in March the Y housed students from the University of Minnesota, Rochester as they spent part of their spring break in Jamestown assisting a project at the Jamestown Salvation Army.
The students then continued with their volunteerism in Salt Lake City.
He added, that April 12, 2014 the Larson Lifetime Sports Center will host the University of Jamestown’s Dine and Bid Auction.
Jamestown (CSi) The National Weather Service in Bismarck has announced the scheduled training sessions with Skywarn, a severe weather service training guide.
A training session has been planned in Jamestown on April 8, 2014 at the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center in the lower level meeting room. The training sessions are free and open to the public with no registration required.
The training sessions contain the knowledge individuals need to become a spotter with a local agency.
While not necessarily a “Storm Chaser”, spotters stay close to home and gather information to distribute to a local organization, such as the National Weather Service. Spotters report on wind speed, hail size, rainfall and cloud formations.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Parks and Recreation has announced the 53rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt, will be on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Wilson Arena Parking Lot.
The event is free.
Hosted by Elks #995 and Parks and Recreation, there will be two age divisions: Pre-School and Grades 1-4. 4 bikes will also be given away.
Parents will NOT be allowed to hunt with children.

Bismarck (CSi) North Dakota Public Service Commission Chairman Brian Kalk, will visit Jamestown and Valley City Friday and Wishek on Saturday as part of his re-election campaign.
Kalk announced his campaign Wednesday in Bottineau.
At 5:30 p.m. Friday Kalk will be at the Pizza Corner in Valley City, and at 7:30 p.m. he will be at the McDonald’s in Jamestown.
On Saturday At 10 a.m. Kalk will be at the Piccadilly Café in Wishek.
Kalk was a professor at North Dakota State University prior to his election to the Public Service Commission in 2008.
Fargo businessman Todd Reisenauer is seeking the Democratic-NPL Party’s endorsement to challenge Kalk in the November election.
KULM, N.D. (AP) – Voters in Kulm appear to have approved a $5.5 million addition to the elementary school in the southeastern North Dakota town.
School Superintendent Tom Nitschke (NIHTCH’-kee) says unofficial results show about 81 percent of the 434 people who voted Tuesday were in favor of the project. The measure required 60 percent approval.
The results will be certified Monday.
Supporters said the expansion would improve school security, provide a better library and address issues with growth. Opponents wanted the existing school to be renovated instead.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Officials say a worker was injured when an oil drill rig caught fire in western North Dakota.
A statement from the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Department says Brian Buzby suffered non-life threatening burns on his head and hands when the oil rig caught fire Tuesday afternoon near Watford City. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities say the fire happened on a Nabors Industries rig at a Whiting Petroleum oil well site. Officials say firefighters from Watford City and Keene responded and were able to extinguish the blaze with firefighting foam Tuesday.
North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources spokeswoman Alison Ritter says no oil escaped the well site. She says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Nabors officials did not immediately return telephone calls on Wednesday.
Devils Lake, N.D. (AP) – A Devils Lake teen is facing multiple charges in juvenile court after allegedly taking a family car for a joyride.
police say the 14-year-old took an SUV out of her family garage without permission Tuesday morning.
Authorities say she struck the garage while backing out before hitting another car in the driveway.
Police say she’s facing juvenile court charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, failing to give notice of an accident and driving without a license.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Public Service Commission is moving forward with a state insolvency case against an organic flour company in Harvey.
The PSC voted Wednesday to file paperwork in district court that outlines claims and payment recommendations against Earth Harvest Mills, which does business as Dakota Prairie Organic Flour Company.
The commission licenses and regulates grain elevators. Commissioners say claims against the company total more than $4.3 million.
A hearing on the PSC’s report is slated for May 14 in Wells County district court.
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) – The father of a Montana man who was crushed to death in a North Dakota oil field accident in January 2013 has filed a lawsuit against the owners of the drilling rig and the well site, alleging the companies failed to provide for the safety of subcontractors.
The Missoulian reports Randall Winter filed a lawsuit on Monday against Pioneer Drilling Services Ltd of San Antonio, Texas, and Whiting Petroleum Corp. of Denver over the death of his son, 22-year-old Kyle Winter of Kalispell, who worked for Heller Casing.
The lawsuit alleges Pioneer Drilling did not allow Heller Casing employees to use the appropriate equipment to suspend a large wrench called a “power tong” above a well that was being cased with steel pipe near Watford City, N.D. The “power tong” fell on Winter, killing him.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Automotive and heavy equipment dealerships in North Dakota are helping pay students’ college costs in order to guarantee a diesel mechanic workforce.
The North Dakota Implement Dealers Association and Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota say there are hundreds of openings across the state. Ann Pollert with General Equipment & Supplies Inc. tells The Bismarck Tribune that the demand is “crazy.”
General Equipment is paying up to 90 percent of students’ loans in exchange for a three-year work commitment. Other companies are implementing similar programs.
RDO Equipment has about 200 open positions companywide, both in and out of the state. A third of those are diesel technicians. The company is offering internship and apprenticeship programs that include college cost reimbursements.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The growth in revenue at American Indian casinos in North Dakota in 2012 bucked the national trend.
Casino City’s Indian Gaming Industry Report released Wednesday shows that Indian-owned casinos in North Dakota brought in $184 million in 2012, a 5.5 percent increase from 2011. The growth from 2010 to 2011 was only 2.2 percent.
Nationally, growth slowed in 2012 to 2 percent, from 3.4 percent the previous year.
The report also says the number of table games at Indian casinos in North Dakota dropped 29 percent from 2011 to 2012, while the number of slot machines increased 7 percent.
Chief Financial Officer Weston Quinn at Dakota Magic Casino at Hankinson says the numbers accurately reflect how business at his casino has changed.

CHICAGO (AP) – It’s a ruling that could change the face of college sports. A federal agency says football players at Northwestern University can create the nation’s first union of college athletes. The decision comes from a regional director of the National Labor Relations Board. He found that football players at the Big Ten school qualify as employees under federal law. Northwestern is a private school — and the federal agency doesn’t have jurisdiction over public universities.
NEW YORK (AP) – A slide in technology companies has dragged the stock market lower, erasing an early gain. The initial public offering of the company behind the hit game “Candy Crush Saga” flopped. King Digital Entertainment dropped 16 percent on its first day of trading. The Nasdaq composite, which is technology-heavy, fell 60 points. The Dow lost 98 and the S&P 500 dropped 13 points.
CHICAGO (AP) – According to a federal investigator, the operator of a Chicago commuter train admits that she dozed off before the train left the tracks early Monday — climbing onto the platform and barreling up an escalator. And she’s told investigators that she had fallen asleep at the controls one other time, even overshooting a station platform. She’d been on the job for just two months. Investigators are also looking at a backup emergency braking system that activated but failed to stop the train. The crash injured more than 30 people.
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – The Navy says a sailor who was killed in a shootout this week at a Virginia base had jumped between a colleague and a civilian gunman. The Navy identifies the sailor as Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Mark Mayo, who was from Maryland. Officials say the gunman had taken the weapon from a petty officer aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Mahan, which was docked in Norfolk. The gunman was later killed by another sailor following a gunfight.
CHATHAM, Mass. (AP) – A snowstorm with powerful wind gusts is whipping the Northeast. Parts of Massachusetts are digging out from up to 10 inches of snow. Maine’s eastern tip is getting pounded with blowing snow and winds gusting to 60 miles an hour. To the south, whiteout conditions are blamed on a pair of pileups involving 40 vehicles on I-81 in West Virginia. State police say two people were killed and seven were injured.
