Jamestown (CSi) Plans have been approved by the Jamestown Regional Airport Authority along with specifications for an eight-bay T-hangar building and a crack sealing and repainting project on the asphalt at the airport.
Meeting in Special Session Tuesday, board members voted unanimously to approve the plans from Interstate Engineering, Project Manager Steve Aldinger.
He says bids will be advertised for both projects on Friday. A pre-bid meeting will be held April 23rd with the bids opened and contracts awarded on May 2.
One pilot is interested in renting a bay at the hangar.
The completion date is tentatively scheduled for December 1, 2014,with a $900-a-day penalty assessed to the contractor for going past the completion date.
Mechanical work won’t be necessary as the hangar will not be heated, and the hangar does not need to be equipped for fire suppression after further review of the fire code.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council has approved a total real estate valuation for taxes in Jamestown of $703 million.
At the Jamestown Board of Equalization Tuesday, City Assesor, Darrell Wollan said, the figure is an increase from the $650 million in valuation used for the 2013 taxes.
Wollan said the value may be lowered to $696 million when final calculations are made.
The higher valuation was mostly due to changes in the value of residential property which increased 9.9 percent.
Each mill of taxes would generate $33,000 for the city compared to about $30,000 last year.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – It doesn’t appear there will be mayoral races in Bismarck and Minot this year.
Former Minot City Councilman Chuck Barney is the only person to submit candidacy paperwork by the deadline in that city, where Mayor Curt Zimbelman is not seeking a fourth term.
And barring any significant write-in campaigns, the only person running for mayor in Bismarck is City Commissioner Mike Seminary. Mayor John Warford is retiring in June after serving three terms.
There will be a mayoral race in North Dakota’s largest city. Fargo City Commissioner Brad Wimmer is challenging two-term Mayor Dennis Walaker.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot voters have approved a $39.5 million bond issue to pay for school projects.
The measure on Tuesday passed with about 67 percent of the vote – four months after voters rejected a $125 million school bond issue.
The December measure would have included a second high school. The proposal approved on Tuesday will pay for construction of a new elementary school, additions at two other elementaries, and safety and security upgrades at all district schools.
In other votes Tuesday, residents of Kenmare rejected a $7.5 million bond issue to fund classroom additions and a new gymnasium, while voters in the Lewis and Clark School District approved a $15 million proposal to fund school projects in Berthold and Plaza.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say police properly obtained evidence in an illegal weapons case against a North Dakota man who has been questioned in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme in Washington State.
Public defenders for James Henrikson have filed a motion to suppress evidence found in a safe in Henrikson’s Watford City residence. Henrikson is charged with being a felon in charge of a firearm.
Federal prosecutors say in court documents filed Tuesday that law enforcement had probable cause and were authorized by a signed warrant to seize any property.
Authorities say Henrikson had business dealings in the North Dakota oil patch with Doug Carlile, who was shot and killed by an intruder on Dec. 15 at his Spokane, Wash., home.
Henrikson was questioned by police and denied being involved in Carlile’s death.
Bismarck, N.D. (AP) – The state attorney general is teaming up with an Olympic medalist to raise awareness about the dangers of underage drinking.
North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and national figure skater Ashley Wagner are releasing a public service announcement this month called “Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix.”
The attorney general’s office says the PSA aims to encourage kids to make healthy decisions and not drink alcohol. The message also reminds parents that talking to their children is one of the most effective ways to prevent underage drinking.
Stenehjem’s office says accomplished athletes like Wagner are good role models for kids. Wagner won a bronze medal with the United States figure skating team in the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota will pay a company $12,600 to clean up illegally dumped radioactive oil field waste found on the outskirts of the northwestern town of Noonan.
The money to pay Secure On-site Services will come from the state Industrial Commission’s abandoned well cleanup fund.
Officials about a month ago reported the illegal dumping of hundreds of radioactive oil filter socks in an abandoned building in Noonan. They said it’s the state’s biggest incident to date of illegal dumping of the tubular nets that strain liquids during the oil production process.
Authorities don’t know who’s to blame, and the whereabouts of the building’s owner aren’t known.
The cleanup company said it will dispose of the filter socks at a radioactive disposal facility in Idaho.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Ground has been broken for two highway bypasses to steer trucks around Williston and Alexander. Both towns in the oil patch are seeing a surge in truck traffic and more accidents. The projects will cost the state a total of $190 million.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota will pay a company more than $12,000 to clean up illegally dumped radioactive oil field waste found near Noonan. Authorities say they still don’t know who’s to blame for dumping the waste and they can’t find the owner of the building where they found it. The money comes from a state fund for cleaning up abandoned wells.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Kansas City Royals infielder Omar Infante (ihn-FAHN’-tay) has a sprained jaw after being hit by a Heath Bell pitch during Monday’s win over Tampa Bay. UNDATED (AP) – Forty years ago Tuesday night, baseball fans across America were huddled around their televisions as NBC broadcast the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers from Fulton County Stadium. Hank Aaron walked in his first at-bat in the second inning before belting a fourth-inning blast off Al Downing to become baseball’s all-time home run champ.
The Braves honored the 40th anniversary of that historic game Tuesday. Commissioner Bud Selig (SEE’-lihg) participated in the celebration, calling Aaron “ideally suited to become Babe Ruth’s heir.”
The 80-year-old Aaron received a standing ovation as he strode onto the field with the aid of a walker as he recovers from hip-replacement surgery. Downing threw out the ceremonial first pitch, and former Braves Tom House and Dusty Baker were there as well. House was in the bullpen when he caught Aaron’s historic home run ball.

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) – The chief prosecutor in Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial is getting his chance to question the defendant today, demanding that Pistorius openly say he killed his girlfriend. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – A published report says Florida prosecutors aren’t commenting on why they filed reduced charges against a pregnant South Carolina woman who drove a minivan carrying her three small children into the Atlantic surf. The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports prosecutors changed that to attempted second-degree murder and child abuse.
