WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – What began as a small grass fire
Friday afternoon has spread to more than 600 acres in the Dakota
Prairie Grasslands area about 30 miles southwest of Watford City in
western North Dakota.
The fire has closed down the Maah Deah Hey Trail and the Bennett Campground.
About 80 people are working to contain the fire, and a
helicopter is being used to drop water on the blaze.
Dakota Prairie Grasslands district ranger Jay Frederick says
temperatures were expected to drop near freezing overnight, which
would help firefighters.
Rangers have taken precautionary measures to protect some
ranchers near the fire, but there has been no property damage so
far. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Students at a North Dakota high school have
raised more than $7,000 to help a family whose home was destroyed
by fire in a North Fargo mobile home park.

After hosting fundraisers for the Garcia family for two weeks,

on state lands, and it gets royalty payments from oil production.
Gaebe says the oil income is the biggest reason for the fund’s
growth.
The school trust fund also gets money from leasing out about
700,000 acres of state-owned pasture land.
Part of the fund’s assets are paid out to North Dakota schools.
During the current two-year budget, schools are getting about $93

and North Dakota merchants say the break helps draw shoppers.
Canadians have to pay North Dakota sales taxes on the goods they
buy, but they can get a refund. The state Tax Department has paid
almost $2.2 million in refunds this year.
The North Dakota Legislature’s Taxation Committee won’t support
proposals to get rid of the tax breaks.
Fargo Rep. Jim Kasper says the state has enough revenue.
Williston Rep. Patrick Hatlestad says Montana shoppers will stay
away if they have to pay North Dakota’s sales tax.

order to challenge a play.
Meanwhile, two people familiar with the talks say that the NFL
and the locked out officials’ union met on Sunday.
It was uncertain whether progress was made in an attempt to
