Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 24, 2012)  –  Volunteers Monday, began the search for a camera SD card, in hopes it will give a clue as to what caused the plane crash that took the life of Bob Odegaard.

At Valley City Airport, a grid was laid out to establish a search area, of the crash site.

Within the grid, searchers with metal detectors hope the instruments will turn up the card that was in the camera mounted on the plane, at the time of the crash.

The search will start Wednesday morning at the Valley City airport and if not found, will continue on  on Saturday morning.

Organizers emphasize this is not a “souvenir hunt,” but an effort to help the investigation.

From VCSU…

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) – A group of approximately 190 freshmen from Valley City State University will harvest fresh produce from an area farm that will be distributed to 278 food shelves, soup kitchens, shelters and other charitable feeding programs supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank, a program of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota.

The project is part of VCSU’s “Learning to Live/Living to Learn” (L2L) program.

The event will take place from 9:00 am – 11:30 am, Tuesday, September 25, 2012, approximately 10 miles north of Valley City.

Each Fall semester all new students at VCSU take part in an orientation program known as Learning to Live-Living to Learn (L2L) in which upper class students serve as mentors for groups of new students and assist students in the transition to college.

L2L topics include team building, orientation to campus services, adjusting to college, substance abuse issues, academic advising, learning styles, stress management, and paying for college.

A component of the Learning to L2L program is a community service project that will allow the entire freshman class to participate as a group and make a significant contribution to the city or the region. In previous years, students have painted fire hydrants throughout Valley City and worked on flood clean-up efforts.

For the third year in a row, the L2L community service project will involve harvesting fresh produce (primarily squash) from a local farm that will be distributed to food shelves throughout North Dakota. Last year, the project yielded approximately 25 tons of produce.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – An 18-year-old woman who was charged along
with her boyfriend and another man in a North Dakota counterfeit
case has pleaded guilty in federal court.

Kasi Switzer, of Las Vegas, is accused of manufacturing and
passing bogus bills to several businesses in Watford City. Her
boyfriend, Shawn Patton, also of Las Vegas, and another man, Travis
Linseth, of Watford City, also are charged in the case.
Switzer is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 20.
Watford City police had received complaints from local banks
about the counterfeit bills. Switzer allegedly passed a phony $50
bill to a pizza food truck in Watford City.
Authorities say a search of a residence shared by Patton and
Switzer yielded evidence, including copy paper, rubber cement,
color printer cartridges, printer and paper trimmer.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – Classes are slated to resume next week
at a rural school in western North Dakota that was damaged when a
semitrailer ran into it in a deadly crash.
The Rev. Adrian Timmons says  students at the Johnson Corners
Christian Academy will attend classes in the part of the building
that wasn’t damaged in the Sept.17 crash.
Authorities say the semitrailer that crashed into the first
collided with a car that failed to yield at the intersection.

The driver of the car was killed.

Three students, a teacher and the semi driver were treated for minor injuries.
Timmons says the crash damaged about half of the school
building. The private religious school has 19 students.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s oil tax “Legacy Fund” now
has $535 million in assets.
In its 13 months of existence, the fund has collected more than
a half-billion dollars.
North Dakota voters approved the fund in 2010.
It gets 30 percent of the state’s oil tax collections. None of
the money can be spent until 2017, and even then it takes a
two-thirds vote of the Legislature to dip into it.
North Dakota Treasurer Kelly Schmidt says $45 million was
deposited into the fund this month. It’s been collecting oil tax
revenue since September of 2011.
Schmidt says the fund has been growing much faster than
anticipated because of rising North Dakota oil production and high
prices.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A new housing study predicts North
Dakota’s population will grow to 840,000 people by 2025. That’s a
25 percent increase.
Ten counties in North Dakota’s oil country are forecast to grow
by 50 percent in the next 13 years. The population of Williston and
its three-county region is expected to double.
The report says the statewide demand for housing is expected to
increase 30 percent by 2025.
The report was done for North Dakota’s Housing Finance Agency.
Agency director Mike Anderson says it provides information about
how much, and what kind, of housing North Dakota will need during
the next decade.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple is speaking Tuesday at a housing forum in
Bismarck. He says he’ll suggest ways the state can encourage
housing construction.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The National Sunflower Association says
this year’s harvest should be done well ahead of average.
A killing freeze in much of the Northern Plains last week put
growers into full harvest mode.
The association says that combines will be working steady this
week thanks to a forecast of unseasonably warm temperatures and no
precipitation.
North Dakota’s crop is rated 51 percent good, 35 percent fair, 7
percent poor, 6 percent excellent and 1 percent very poor. South
Dakota’s crop is rated 46 percent fair, 27 percent poor, 24 percent
good and 3 percent very poor.
Early harvest reports from central North Dakota are coming in at
1,700 to 2,200 pound yields.

MAYVILLE, N.D. (AP) – What does a pair of Senate candidates do
when their state is booming amid a sluggish national economy? They
focus on personal style.

That’s the case in North Dakota, where
Democrat Heidi Heitkamp and Republican Rep. Rick Berg are waging a
surprisingly tight race for an open Senate seat.

the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East. Pedro Florimon homered and
Chris Parmelee hit an RBI triple for the Twins.

The Orioles settled for a split of their doubleheader with Toronto. Chicago’s 5-4 win over Cleveland keeps the AL Central-leading White Sox one game ahead of the Detroit Tigers, who knocked off Kansas City 6-2.

SEATTLE (AP) – In a bizarre ending that capped a tough weekend
for replacement officials, the Seattle Seahawks beat the Green Bay
Packers 14-12 on Russell Wilson’s disputed 24-yard touchdown pass
to Golden Tate on the final play.

M.D. Jennings for possession after Jennings got both hands on the
ball.

the season without one of the NFL’s top defensive players.
     All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis (duh-REHL’ REE’-vihs) will
need surgery after tearing the ACL in his left knee during Sunday’s
23-20 overtime win at Miami. He fell awkwardly and grabbed at his
knee even before he hit the ground.

Denver Broncos head coach John Fox has been fined $30,000 and
defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has been docked $25,000 for
verbal abuse of the replacement officials during last Monday
night’s loss in Atlanta.

NFL executive vice president of football

night’s New England-Baltimore game involving Patriots coach Bill
Belichick and the Ravens’ John Harbaugh.

NHL LABOR…

TORONTO (AP) – A face-to-face meeting between top officials from
the NHL and NHL Players’ Association wasn’t enough to break their
labor stalemate.

yesterday going over accounting for last season but didn’t emerge
with any plan to resume negotiations on a new collective bargaining
agreement to end the lockout. Representatives from both sides said
the topic wasn’t even raised.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Seattle hasn’t had an NHL team since
1924, but the city is very interested in one now.

possible relocation to the Emerald City.

statement that while they hope to reach a deal with Edmonton on a
new arena, the team is also listening to proposals from a number of
potential NHL markets.
The Seattle City Council approved hedge-fund manager Chris
Hansen’s plan for a $490 million arena Monday that both sides hope
will host an NBA and NHL team in the future.
