Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Public School Board Monday heard a report concerning juvenile referral numbers that are leveling off.
The information said the school district is ahead of the curve in North Dakota for implementing safety equipment at the schools
During a report on the D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness Resistance and Education) program, Jamestown Police Department’s Resource Officer at JPS, Nick Hardy, said he doesn’t expect to see any increase in juvenile referrals in the near future.
Hardy pointed out that other school districts in the state are following Jamestown in implementing security locks, buzzers and cameras at the doors to each school building.
Hardy brought in two fifth-grade students, CaSara Messner from Washington Elementary School and Kyra Vogel from Lincoln Elementary School, to read reports on what they’ve learned from the nine-week D.A.R.E. Core program.
Also on Monday the school board recognized drama students Nick Mortenson and Hunter Carpenter for receiving a “Superior Acting Award” at the state drama competition.
Drama instructor Jay Nitschke was awarded “Director of the Year” at the competition.
The school board approved letters of resignation from Rae Ann Vandrovec and Laura Wieck effective at the end of the 2014 school year.
Vandrovec is the K-12 technology curriculum/staff development coordinator and Wieck is a special education teacher at Gussner Elementary School.
The meeting was recorded by CSi-10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, with showings starting Tuesday.
