WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – In a story May 21 about a Williston Park Board member resigning, The Associated Press, relying on information from the Williston Herald, reported erroneously that Executive Director Darin Krueger had been placed on an improvement plan. Park Board President Joel Wilt said that is inaccurate.

A corrected version of the most recent story is below:

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A member of Williston’s park board who was caught up in a dispute over the suspension of the city parks director has resigned.

The Williston Herald reports that Nick Johnson resigned at the beginning of Tuesday’s board meeting and immediately left the meeting.

A group of residents had called for Johnson and another board member to step down, saying the suspension last month of Executive Director Darin Krueger that was nullified because of a technicality undermined the board’s integrity.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A spill of 100 barrels of brine and 140 barrels of oil has been reported in Crosby.

The North Dakota Department of Health on Wednesday said 90 barrels of brine and 65 barrels of oil have been recovered, but some reached a nearby farm field and shelter belt.

Operator Samson Resources Company reported the release to authorities on Monday. The company says the failure of a valve on a saltwater disposal well led to the spill.

A state inspector is at the site located in northwest North Dakota less than 20 miles from the Canadian border.

A state official says the company is in the process of cleaning the site and is monitoring for evidence of “stressed vegetation.”

Samson Resources is based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The most serious personal crime categories in Bismarck dropped nearly 9 percent compared to 2012, and serious property crime also dropped about 9 percent. Calls for service decreased 6 percent.

Police Chief Dan Donlin says an increased crime prevention effort is one of the reasons.

However, there were some numbers of concern. Arrests increased 21 percent, drug violations were up 12 percent, and weapons violations were up 54 percent. Donlin says officers are seeing an increase in weapons.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The FBI wants the oil industry’s help in tackling crime in North Dakota’s oil patch.

John Dalziel is a supervisory senior resident agent with the FBI. He says local and state law enforcement are overtaxed by the growth in the oil country, making it difficult to go after certain crimes.

He says the FBI has just two agents in the oil patch and the industry’s cooperation is key to combatting crime.

Danziel on Wednesday spoke at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck.

The FBI has created an online special interest group for the oil and gas sector where members of the industry can share information with the agency. They bureau is asking the workforce to use the group to report observations that could indicate criminal activity.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota oil tax fund is about to top $2 billion.

The Legacy Fund gets 30 percent of the state’s oil tax collections. The money cannot be touched before 2017 and it would still take a two-thirds vote of the Legislature to dip into it.

North Dakota voters approved the fund in 2010. It received its first deposit of $34.3 million in September 2011.

State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt says this month’s transfer of $81.7 million will put the account over the $2 billion mark. The fund is on pace to reach $3 billion by the end of the 2013-15 biennium.

THOMPSON, N.D. (AP) – An eastern North Dakota mayor is joining other municipal leaders around the country in supporting same-sex marriage, becoming the first mayor in the state to formally join the effort.

Thompson Mayor Karyn Hippen says she’s proud to be the 400th member to join Mayors for the Freedom to Marry, a coalition of same-sex marriage supporting mayors organized by an advocacy group.

Four gay couples announced Wednesday they were suing Montana over its constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. The lawsuit makes North and South Dakota the two remaining states in the country with same-sex marriage bans and no lawsuits challenging them. A lawsuit in South Dakota is expected soon.

Thompson says she has a 23-year-old son who is gay and wants to see him get married someday.
