Jamestown (Csi) A portion of Southeast Jamestown was without power Saturday afternoon, starting about 3:15 p.m., when a high gust of wind broke a tree branch that struck an electrical transformer on a utility pole causing the transformer to spark, and shut off power.
The location was in the alley in between 5th Avenue Southeast and 6th Avenue in the 1100 block, near the TSC store.
The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to the scene, however Lt. Mark Urquhart said the sparks from the transformer did not cause a fire.
The fire units were on the scene less than 30-minutes, as crews from Otter Tail Power Company were sent to the scene.
The power was restored at 4:08 p.m.
The National Weather Service placed Jamestown and Valley City in a Wind Advisory at 3:50-p.m., which was allowed to expire early Saturday evening. The Jamestown weather station recorded a peak wind gust of 41 mph in the 4-p.m. hour. At 4:30-p.m., Saturday, the Law Enforcement Center in Jamestown said a wind gust caused a tree to topple damaging two vehicles near 2nd Avenue and 10th Street Northwest.
A flash flood watch expired Saturday evening, with .05 of an inch of rain recorded on Saturday, and .10 of an inch on the CSi weather computer in downtown Jamestown. 1.08 inches officially on Friday, .92 on the CSi weather computer. On Sunday the weather computer picked up another. 02 of an inch of rain.
The running total of precipitation for Jamestown officially, as of 7-a.m., Monday is 6.32 inches.
On Sunday another wind advisory was issued, and led to a few more tree branches to come down.
Another wind advisory is in effect on Monday from 10-a.m. to 7-p.m.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Weekend rainfall in the Dakotas set records in both states and led to flash flooding in some areas.
The National Weather Service reports that Minot in northern North Dakota got more than 2.6 inches of rain on Saturday, breaking a 62-year-old record for the date. Pierre in central South Dakota got more than 1.4 inches, also a record – and nearly all of it fell in just one hour.
Water flowed over U.S Highway 83 in central North Dakota – a major north-south artery. The rain also washed out games at the McQuade charity softball tournament in Bismarck, which drew more than 450 teams from around the country.
Showers are in the forecast for both states this week. A severe thunderstorm watch was posted for southeastern South Dakota early Monday.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – State transportation officials Monday morning say floodwaters have receded from the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 83 in central North Dakota.
Heavy rains over the weekend swamped the highway near Coleharbor. The Transportation Department says there is still water in the southbound lanes, slowing traffic.
Highway 83 is a major north-south artery in North Dakota.
Water also remains on sections of state Highway 256 south of Antler, in north central North Dakota. Traffic is allowed, with reduced speeds.
Jamestown (CSi) The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, single-vehicle rollover on Friday about 2:20-p.m. backed up traffic on I-94 for about a half mile for about 20 minutes, with traffic reduced to a single lane.
The report says a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 29 year old Weston Pachl, of Riverdale, rolled over near mile marker 257 due to wet road conditions.
Pachl and two passengers were not injured in the accident.
They were taken to JRMC to be checked.
Pachl was issued a citation for care required.

From Wes Anderson
Valley City (CSi) Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Come One Come ALL! After a false start and major disappointment of Alan Komrosky’s Triceratops “Bob” first being planned and announced that it was coming to the Barnes County Museum and then not coming due to the back door being three inches too short, Allen Komrosky and crew have pulled a rabbit out of their hat and made it possible for “Bob” the Triceratops to at last being displayed on the main floor of the Barnes County Museum for all to see.
Wes Anderson says, the process has been gradual, starting with the massive skull that came to the museum on Memorial Day. The rest of “Bob”was assembed as Alan dismantled “Bob” from where it’s been assembled in the workshop.
It will be on display at the museum for an undetermined length of time while Alan seeks a buyer and permanent home for “Bob”.
The dismantling process involved painting the metal skeleton that clutches the heavy fossil pieces of Bob like jewelry.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fires in Fargo damaged a walking bridge at a city park and prompted the evacuation of an apartment building. No one was hurt.
Authorities say the bridge fire at Johnson Park near the North Dakota State University campus about 3 a.m. Monday caused an estimated $3,000 in damage. The cause was not immediately determined.
Discarded smoking materials are listed as the cause of a blaze that started on a second-floor deck at an apartment building Sunday afternoon. All of the building’s residents safely evacuated. Damage was estimated at about $15,000.
This morning a fire broke out at a church in Moorhead MN at Moorhead Baptist Church, which is causing extensive damage.
BRECKENRIDGE, Minn. (AP) – Police have identified a body found in the Red River near Breckenridge as Andrew Sadek, a 20-year-old college student from Rogers who has been missing since the beginning of May.
Sadek left his dorm at the North Dakota State College of Science the in the early morning of May 1. Authorities had searched for the student for several days in May.
The Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office says the North Dakota Department of Pathology identified Sadek Saturday. The cause of death is still under investigation.
Authorities issued an arrest warrant charging Sadek with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance shortly after his disappearance. Investigators had kept the warrant secret because they didn’t want to hamper their search.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The attorney for a man who worked for a Texas company that illegally sold the chemicals traced to the synthetic drug deaths of two North Dakota teenagers is asking for a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Twenty-six-year-old John Polinski, of Houston, is the last of 15 people to be convicted in a case that federal authorities dubbed “Operation Stolen Youth.” He’s scheduled for sentencing Monday afternoon.
The wide-ranging investigation started after 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, and 17-year-old Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minn., died within a week of each in June 2012.
Authorities say Bjerk and Stai ingested hallucinogens that were cooked up by Andrew Spofford, who bought the chemicals from Houston-based Motion Resources LLC.
Polinski worked as an hourly employee for Motion Resources.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A lawyer for a Seattle doctor accused of turning in phony Medicare claims that included reports of nursing home visits to patients who were dead says his client should receive a sentence of probation.
John C. Chen is charged in federal court in North Dakota with six counts, including health care fraud and false statements related to health care. He is scheduled for a plea hearing and sentencing Monday.
Defense attorney Robert Flennaugh the Second says Chen plans to plead guilty to one count of possession of an access device. Flennaugh says the government agrees with a recommendation of one year of probation.
The case is being tried in North Dakota because Fargo-based Noridian Healthcare Solutions LLC processes and pays Medicare Part B claims in Washington state.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The Minot nursing home where dozens of residents contracted hepatitis C last year has filed a lawsuit against Trinity Health that claims the health care provider is responsible for the outbreak.
Forty-six people were infected last year with the virus that can cause serious liver damage and even death. All but one of the people had spent time at the ManorCare Health Services nursing home.
ManorCare filed the suit in federal court earlier this week. The lawsuit alleges that one Trinity Health employee is responsible for the spread of the disease.
It says Trinity should have been aware of “serious longstanding problems” with the employee’s blood service, or phlebotomy, practices. The employee allegedly performed the majority of Trinity’s phlebotomy services at ManorCare.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Today is the deadline for North Dakotans to apply for a refund of fuel taxes paid in 2013 on gasoline and gasohol bought to power farm, ranch, and industrial equipment used off-road.
Fuel purchased for use by an emergency medical services operation also qualifies for a refund.
Taxes collected on motor fuels go toward highway maintenance. State Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger (RAW’-shuhn-bur-gur) says state law provides for the refund because construction and farm equipment typically doesn’t operate on public highways.
Fuel used in vehicles designed for use on public roads is not eligible for the refund.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Officials have secured funding and plans for a presidential library for former President Theodore Roosevelt in Dickinson are moving forward.
Dickinson State University and its Theodore Roosevelt Center were tasked last session by the state Legislature with designing a presidential library for the man who often said he was transformed by his time in western North Dakota.
Legislators promised $12 million in state funding if Dickinson State could come up with $3 million of their own, which university President D.C. Coston said this week will come from the city of Dickinson.
Dickinson State officials have said that the project will likely cost more than the $15 million already invested.
Master design plans are expected to be finished by the end of July.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Backers of a proposed North Dakota conservation fund ballot measure say they’re making a big push this summer to gather signatures to get the issue on the November ballot.
Conservation advocates want a bigger slice of North Dakota oil tax revenues for an outdoor heritage fund. Backers want 5 percent of the state’s oil extraction taxes for a fund to benefit water, wildlife and parks projects. That would raise about $150 million during the 2015-17 budget period. The current fund is capped at $30 million.
Opponents include energy, farm and business groups and they have started a campaign against the measure. The say the state already provides money for conservation efforts, and they worry that a bigger fund would take away from other critical needs.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department is gearing up to stock a record number of walleye lakes this year.
Fisheries production and development supervisor Jerry Weigel says 156 waters are scheduled to get a share of 9 million fingerlings.
Twenty years ago, only about 60 waters were stocked with walleye fingerlings each year. That number grew to 100 in the early 2000s.
Weigel says the growth in walleye waters is directly linked to the number of public fishing waters managed by Game and Fish.

MIAMI (AP) – The Miami Heat’s Big 3 are all pending free agents.
Chris Bosh has joined Dwyane (dwayn) Wade and LeBron James in opting out of his contract with Miami. The move was not unexpected, and gives the Heat a gigantic amount of financial flexibility to shop with when the free-agent window officially opens at midnight Tuesday.
LeBron James opted out of his contract on Tuesday, and Dwyane (dwayn) Wade did likewise on Saturday. The trio did so to give Heat president Pat Riley a chance to spend the biggest amount of money possible. Although they’ve opted out of their contracts, none of the three has expressed true interest in leaving the franchise after taking the Heat to four straight NBA Finals.
