Jamestown (CSi)  A Jamestown man was arrested Monday evening, about 5:30-p.m.,in connection with an incident that occurred at a 10th Street Southeast Jamestown.
42 year old, Patrick James Barnick was arrested and charged with terrorizing and child abuse.
Jamestown Police was called when he alledgedly had a gun in his possession outside his residence.

 

 VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – A 92-year-old Valley City woman who was struck by a pickup truck has died.
 
     Rita Weber had been hospitalized in Fargo since being struck in a crosswalk on June 22. Valley City police say she died on Monday.
 
     No charges have been filed against the 32-year-old driver, but authorities are continuing to investigate.

 

Valley City (CSi) Starting July 7, 2014 those in Valley City that encounter problems relating to sewers, power outages, or water problems will be able to call a 24 hour phone number.

The Valley City Public Works office will have a number, 845-0380 to call after business hours including weekends and holidays.

Of course if the situation is an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

 

Jamestown (CSi) While boiling water is not required Jamestown residents using the municipal water system make want to take precautions. The system received two failed bacteria tests this month. Jamestown Utility Operations Director, Steve Suko, says city is notifying residents by mail today.

 The tests by the North Dakota Health Department indicated the presence of coliform bacteria in two samples taken about a week apart at one of the routine testing locations in Jamestown.

 

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) Executive Committee recommends that rental real estate developers work with local governments if they want to use the Bank of North Dakota Flex Pace Affordable Housing Program.

The program is not currently offered by the JSDC.

The program provides a Bank of North Dakota grant of $25,000 for each unit the developer designates as renting at or below the affordable rent for community. The local community has to provide a percentage match for the grant and must determine what rent amount is considered affordable.

One option discussed was using the median household income for Jamestown established by the U.S. Census Bureau as a starting point for establishing affordable rent. That amount is about $45,000.

 

Jamestown (CSi) The 117th Annual Stutsman County Fair this year in Jamestown runs July 2-5.

Gate admission is $5 for those 13 years old and older, $2 for those 7 to 12 years old, and free for those 6 and younger. A four-day pass is $12.

Ride passes for all four days are $45 and are available at: Casey’s General Store and Neighborhood Grocery.

They will not be available after Wednesday evening. A single-day ride wristband costs $25.

Fairgoers will be treated to great fair food, the rodeo, over two dozen carnival rides, live music, auto racing and more than 1,600 livestock and static projects.

The earlier dates this year allows the run of Murphy Brothers Exposition carnival rides, Officials say the carnival will offer more and larger rides than in the past.

4-H projects, will be featured, as all 12 Stutsman County 4-H Clubs with 200 members, will have static projects, that will be judged.

A reminder that this year’s livestock Premium Sale and livestock breeding parade will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 3rd, with a covered arena for livestock showing will be in place, in the event of bad weather.

Free entertainment starts off on Wednesday with the ever-popular, Johnny Holm Band Tripwire performs Thursday, Brad Lee Schroeder on Friday and Dirty Word on Saturday. While Dirty Word is the band of “The Voice” contestant Kat Perkins. It was noted that Perkins WILL NOT be in attendance.

James River Rodeo Inc. performs at 7 p.m. Friday the 4th, the same time go-kart races begin.

The Don Wilhelm Stock Car Classic and Parade of 4-H Champions is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, the 5th.

Another James River Rodeo performance follows at 6:30 p.m.

 

 WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) – One person died and another was injured when a police pursuit in Wahpeton ended with the suspect’s vehicle crashing into a utility pole.
 
     The Monday night pursuit lasted for only about a few blocks before the suspect’s van crashed. Authorities say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and both occupants were ejected.
 
     The 26-year-old driver died at a Wahpeton hospital. The passenger was taken to a Fargo hospital.
 
     The chase began when an officer spotted the van speeding through a stop sign.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Trial has been pushed back in an illegal weapons case against a North Dakota man who has been questioned in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme in Spokane, Washington.
 
     James Henrikson, of Watford City, is charged in federal court with being a felon in charge of a firearm. His trial was originally scheduled for July 22.
 
     Authorities say Henrikson had business dealings in the North Dakota oil patch with Doug Carlile, who was shot and killed by an intruder on Dec. 15 at his Spokane home. Henrikson has denied involvement in Carlile’s death.
 
     Henrikson was arrested in January. Authorities say they discovered several firearms and a large amount of ammunition at Henrikson’s residence in Watford City.
 
     A judge on Monday agreed to reschedule trial for Sept. 23 in Bismarck.

 

 MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A former Mandan teacher accused of giving two teenage girls a sexually explicit book he had written has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges.
 
     Forty-five-year-old Scott Allan allegedly gave the 17- and 18-year-old girls the book as a graduation gift. Characters in the book allegedly were based on the girls.
 
     Allan resigned May 22, hours after school officials had placed him on administrative leave. He appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of promoting obscenity to minors and a misdemeanor disorderly conduct count.
 
     His trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 30. He could face more than five years in prison if convicted.
 

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The sentencing of a man who worked for a Texas company that illegally sold the chemicals traced to the synthetic drug deaths of two North Dakota teenagers has been postponed.
 
     The U.S. Attorney’s office says the sentencing of 26-year-old John Polinksi, of Houston, has been rescheduled for July 21 at 2:15 p.m.
 
     Polinksi is the last of 15 people to be convicted in a case that federal authorities dubbed “Operation Stolen Youth.”

 

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Williston police say a man upset with neighbors setting off fireworks responded by firing a shotgun, injuring two people.
 
     Authorities responded to the scene Friday night. Officers say David Bartz told them he had fired his 20-gauge shotgun into the air because he was “fed up” with his neighbors shooting off fireworks.
 
     Authorities say two people were injured by shotgun pellets. Bartz allegedly told law officers that the victims were “a bunch of sissies” and deserved what they got.
 
     Bartz is charged with three counts of felony terrorizing, two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm within city limits. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney. A listed telephone number for him could not immediately be found.

 

  BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – State transportation officials say floodwaters have receded from all lanes of U.S. Highway 83 in central North Dakota.
 
     Heavy weekend rains swamped the highway near Coleharbor. The Transportation Department says water had receded from all four lanes by Monday afternoon, and traffic on the main north-south artery in central North Dakota is moving at normal speeds.
 
     Water remains on a section of state Highway 256 south of Antler, in north central North Dakota. Traffic is allowed, with reduced speeds.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota farmers have planted a larger wheat crop in 2014 than they did a year ago, and a record soybean crop.
 
     The Agriculture Department estimates this year’s spring wheat crop in the state at 5.9 million acres, up 16 percent over the year. The durum wheat crop is estimated at 870,000 acres, up 9 percent from 2013.
 
     The Agriculture Department also estimates a record 6 million soybean acres in the state, up 29 percent from last year. This mirrors a national trend. Nationally, soybean acreage is up 11 percent over the year to a record 84.8 million acres.
 
     The increase came at the expense of corn. Corn acres in North Dakota are down 21 percent to 3.1 million. Nationally, they are down 4 percent to 91.6 million

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Workforce Development Division at the North Dakota Department of Commerce has a new leader. Wayde Sick has been named director of the division. He’ll oversee programs and services aimed at enhancing the state’s workforce. Sick previously was workforce talent and project coordinator for the Workforce Development Division.
 
     OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – A monthly economic survey that will give some insight into the health of the economy in nine Midwestern and Plains states will be released today. The survey covers North Dakota, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Oklahoma. Recent versions of the survey have suggested that healthy economic growth is ahead for the region.

 

 WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Country music star Travis Tritt is coming to North Dakota’s oil patch.
 
    Tritt will play a show at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds in Watford City on August 8.
 
     Tritt has sold more than 25 million albums. He has won two Grammys and three County Music Association awards.
 
     Deadwood, South Dakota band The Flashbacks will open for Tritt.
 
     Watford City is also holding the Best of the West Ribfest on the day of the Tritt concert. The festival will feature ribs, street vendors, live music, a classic car show and activities for children.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The population of breeding ducks is soaring in North Dakota.
 
     The state Game and Fish Department says its annual spring breeding duck survey indicated a population of about 4.9 million birds. That’s up 23 percent from last year and 110 percent above the long-term average.
 
     Game and Fish Department migratory bird biologist Mike Szymanski (shuh’-MAN’-skee) says duck numbers during the last two decades are the highest since survey records began in 1948.
 
     Szymanski says abundant water and good nesting cover have kept breeding duck numbers high.

 UNDATED (AP) – Germany has earned the right to face France in the quarterfinals at World Cup.
 
     The Germans beat Algeria 2-1 after neither team scored through 90 minutes. Germany tallied late in injury time and again in the 120th minute to avoid having the game decided on penalty kicks.
 
     The French scored in the 79th minute before benefiting from an own goal to complete a 2-0 triumph over Nigeria.
 
    SALVADOR, Brazil (AP) – Jozy Altidore (JOH’-zee AL’-tih-dohr) will be available for the U.S. in today’s World Cup game against Belgium, although it doesn’t appear he’s ready to start. The forward strained his left hamstring in the Americans’ opener against Ghana on June 16 and didn’t appear in their next two games. The U.S. Soccer Federation tweeted that Altidore “is ready and available.”

 LONDON (AP) – French Open runner-up Simona Halep breezed into the quarterfinals at Wimbledon on Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan.
 
     The third-seeded Romanian needed just 57 minutes to beat the 72nd-ranked Diyas, who was playing at Wimbledon for the first time.
 
     Halep is the second Romanian woman to reach the quarterfinals at the All England Club, joining Virginia Ruzici, who made it to the final eight in 1978 and 1981. Ruzici is now Halep’s manager.
 
     Halep, who has reached the quarterfinals at all three Grand Slams this year, is the only player among the top four seeds left in the draw.
 
     Her next opponent will be either 2013 finalist Sabine Lisicki of Germany or Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.

On the mens side at Wimbledon  Rafael Nadal takes on Nick Kyrious (KEER’-ee-ohs) in a fourth-rounder. Top seed Novak Djokovic (JOH’-koh-vihch) and No. 3 Andy Murray played themselves into the quarterfinals by winning yesterday.

 NEW YORK (AP) – The Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee have agreed to a deal that allows Jason Kidd to become the Bucks’ coach. The Nets will receive a second-round draft pick in 2015 that was formerly their own, and another in 2019 belonging to either Milwaukee or Sacramento. Kidd went 44-38 in his only season as Nets coach, but then sought control of the basketball operations department and was denied.

     HOYLAKE, England (AP) – Former British Open champion Tom Lehman (LAY’-muhn) has withdrawn from this year’s championship. Lehman plans to play at Oak Tree in the U.S. Senior Open next week in Oklahoma and then enjoy a summer vacation with his family.
 
     Lehman won the claret jug in 1996 for his only major.

 BAUCHI, Nigeria (AP) – The Islamic extremist group Boko Haram (BOH’-koh hah-RAHM’) is being blamed for a car bomb in its birthplace city of Maiduguri, Nigeria. Witnesses say the bomb went off in a marketplace in the northeastern city today, and that dozens of people may have been killed. The explosives were hidden under a load of charcoal in a pickup van.

 
     BAGHDAD (AP) – The opening session of Iraq’s new parliament ended almost as soon as it began today with members at impasse over selection of a prime minister, even as a Sunni militant group threatens to tear the country apart as it gobbles up territory. The session was called off after a short break when most of the 328-member legislature’s Sunni and Kurdish lawmakers did not return. Meanwhile, the U.N. says a spike in violence made June the deadliest month in at least two years.
 
     BEIRUT (AP) – The same Sunni militant group that’s carving out section of Iraq has captured a key Syrian town on the border after a long fight with other rebels. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the al-Qaida breakaway Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant captured Boukamal after bringing in reinforcements from Iraq.
 
     MIAMI (AP) – Florida could feel the effects soon as a tropical depression off the coast is expected to become the first tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. The depression’s maximum sustained winds were last tracked this morning at near 35 mph. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Florida’s east coast from Fort Pierce to Flagler Beach.
 
     DETROIT (AP) – The ignition switch recalls now engulfing General Motors and Chrysler are having ripple effects. GM has added 8.2 million vehicles in North America to its ballooning list of cars recalled over faulty ignition switches. Chrysler has recalled almost 700,000 vehicles. It’s caused other manufacturers to investigate their own switches and other potential defects and one expert says that may have resulted in the recent spate of air bag recalls.
