GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Parts of North Dakota are in for some
early October snowfall.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather
advisory for the west and central parts of the state late Wednesday
and early Thursday, and a winter storm watch for the northern Red
River Valley.
Forecasters say as much as 3 inches of snow could fall in some
eastern areas by Thursday afternoon.

Snow already was falling in the Grassy Butte area in western
North Dakota on Wednesday morning.
The weather service says measurable snow is not all that
uncommon in North Dakota this time of year, and snow that
accumulates early in the season usually melts.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to the road to the State Hospital about 12:15 p.m., on Wednesday, (Oct 3, 2012) where an Otter Tail Power Company electrical pole was burning.

Assistant City Fire Chief, Jerry Kainz says, the top third of the poll was on fire when the units arrived, and that section of the poll broke off and fell into a power conductor, and began sparking and arcing.

He adds, that the power line was carrying 40,000 volts of electricity.

Otter Tail crews arrived on the scene, and turned off the electricity to allow fire fighters to put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire is being determined by Otter Tail officials.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — A Fort Ransom, North Dakota woman is facing murder and two child abuse charges after her 22-month-old son died last month.

Authorities say a murder charge against Jodi Renae Lindvall was filed in Ransom County District Court on Tuesday.

Lindvall was arrested Monday. Lindvall’s son, Bentley Lindvall, died Sept. 22 in a Fargo hospital.

It is unclear how the child died. Court documents charging Lindvall says she caused the boy’s death.

Lindvall was being held at the Barnes County Jail in Valley
City.

Lindvall was released from the Barnes County Jail in Valley City after her mother posted bail of 10-thousand dollars cash.

The Ransom County State’ss Attorney is asking that a judge seal documents that may detail the circumstances of the death.

Lindvall faces up to life in prison for the murder charge.

The abuse charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Court documents do not list an attorney for Lindvall.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Taxable sales and purchases in North Dakota during April, May and June grew nearly 42 percent compared to the second quarter of last year, to more than $6.4 billion.

Tax Commissioner Cory Fong says the economic growth is spread across nearly all major industry sectors.

He says consumer confidence remains strong, businesses are growing, wholesale trade is robust and manufacturing is on the rise.

The western oil patch cities of Williston, Watford City, New Town and Tioga all saw large percentage increases in taxable sales over the year.

Fong says the third- and fourth-quarter taxable sales figures will help show what effect this summer’s heat and drought had on the state’s agricultural industry.

In the region, Taxable Sales and Purchased in the second quarter of 2012 and the percentage change from the second quarter of 2011 were:

Barnes County: $22,695,666 down 2.1 percent

Valley City: $20,564,897 down 1 percent

Stutsman County: $71,139,632 up 7.09 percent

Jamestown: $68,081,455 up 7.03 percent

Foster County: $17,765,171 up 3.2 percent

Griggs County: $4,764,802 down 0.32 percent

LaMoure County: $12,240,377 up 0.76 percent

Dickey County: $11,678,725 up 11.62 percent

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — Jamestown professional Massage Therapists and Reflexologists will offer 10-minute stress-reducing massages for $10 for the public, to help them deal with stress, increase productivity, and improve their help.

The day-long event, is being held in observance of National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, a national program sponsored by the American Therapy Association, the professional association for massage therapists.

All proceeds from the Jamestown massages will go to the Jamestown Community Action, Region Six, Weekend Backpack Program

The massages will be offered on Thursday October 25, 2012, from 10-a.m., to 4-p.m. at the Jamestown Business Center.

In conjunction with the therapies, Noridian will hold a bake sale from 10-a.m., to 2-p.m., with those proceeds also going to the Backpack program.

The anonymous Weekend Backpack Program ensures that any child can receive a backpack to supplement their diets over the weekend.

Each Friday, children at participating Jamestown schools are provided with backpacks filled with nutritious, non-perishable, easy-open, food items.

The students learn responsibility by bringing the backpacks back to school, to be refilled each week.

Funds and donations are from local churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals, to help sustain the program in individual schools.

Dakota Brands is currently a sponsor and provides bagels each week for the children.

Become a Backpack Buddy, with a $20 donation, which will help fill one child’s backpack for the weekend.

Other ways to support the program are by becoming a volunteer, specific food donations, donation of backpacks, and by helping to spread the word.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A wind turbine blade manufacturer that
said last week it is laying off 300 workers in Grand Forks has now
announced it is creating 300 jobs at a new factory in Brazil.

LM Wind Power says the Brazil plant will deliver blades to wind
farms throughout South America starting in about a year.
The Danish company tells the Grand Forks Herald that the moves
are a response to strong growth in wind power development in South
America and a weakening of the industry in the United States.

The future of a federal production tax credit in the U.S. that
expires at year’s end is uncertain. LM Wind Power says demand for
new wind power development in the U.S. could drop 70 percent.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – An Atlanta-based company wants to build a
pyramid-shaped structure in North Dakota’s oil patch that would
house 500 apartments, indoor parking for 1,200 vehicles, a mall and
an entertainment center.
New Cimarron City proposed by an investment group led by Camp
and Associates would be 371 feet tall and would wrest the title of
North Dakota’s tallest building from the state Capitol.

Spokesman Gil Geiger tells The Forum that developers are working
to buy 80 acres of land about half an hour east of Williston.

He estimates the project would cost at least $130 million, and hopes
to break ground as soon as next spring. He says it could take two
years to build.
Williston architect John Biggs says he thinks the project is
nothing more than a fantasy.

In world and national news…

DENVER (AP) – President Barack Obama will get the first question
tonight, at the start of a debate in Denver with Mitt Romney
focusing on the economy and other domestic issues.

He and Romney are spending part of the day relaxing at their hotels — and both are visiting the debate site in advance of the event.

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) – Democrats aren’t easing up on their
criticism of Mitt Romney over his secretly-recorded comments to
donors in which he said it’s not his job to care about the 47
percent of Americans who pay no federal taxes.

Former President Bill Clinton told a rally today at the University of New Hampshire in Durham that the criticism of Americans who don’t pay taxes is
ironic, coming from a man who holds accounts in the Cayman Islands.

Republicans, meanwhile, continue to highlight a remark yesterday
from Vice President Joe Biden that the middle class “has been
buried” for the past four years.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is
pledging a full and transparent probe of the attack on the U.S.
consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador to
Libya and three other Americans.

The probe comes as Congress is demanding speedy answers to questions about the security of the mission, amid concerns that the FBI investigation into the incident has been delayed.

WOBURN, Mass. (AP) – A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to
killing his wife, two young children and mother-in-law at their
home north of Boston two years ago.

Thomas Mortimer pleaded guilty to first-degree murder today. He faces life in prison without parole for the June 2010 deaths.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – A professional tennis referee, charged with
killing her husband with a coffee mug, has given police in Los
Angeles a DNA sample, after dropping her opposition to the
procedure.

Lois Ann Goodman appeared briefly in court Wednesday for a
pre-trial hearing.

She was arrested in New York in August, just before she was supposed to referee at the U.S. Open.
