Jamestown (CSi)  A testing last Thursday  of water samples taking from a Jamestown site, has found  no trace of coliform bacteria.

Jamestown Utilities Operations Manager, Steve Suko says, samples from from Casey’s General Store at 1003 13th Street Northeast in Jamestown  in June this year,  tested positive for the bacteria by the North Dakota Department of Health.

Suko says nine additional samples were taken after the two positive tests. Four were taken in the store and five from surrounding businesses, with  tests negative.

Water from that location will continue to be tested twice a month as part of routine water safety monitoring.

The two positive tests prompted the Jamestown Water Department to send letters and run public notice advertisements alerting the public of the problem.

Coliform while harmless, can be an indication of other potentially harmful bacteria in the water system.

Residents were not advised  to boil their water, however  individuals with compromised immune systems were advised to consult with a physician concerning the risk.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) The U.S. Department of Labor is accusing a North Dakota company of forbidding federal inspectors access to a sand and gravel mine to investigate workplace safety complaints.

The agency filed a lawsuit against Jamestown-based Northern Excavating Co. The document says inspectors were denied entry to the mine at least three times since May.

Company owner Robert Lindberg did not return telephone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Court documents say the Mine Safety and Health Administration received complaints in April alleging several violations, including the failure to provide protective equipment for workers.

Administration spokesman Jesse Lawder says the agency is awaiting a ruling by a judge on the issue. He says investigators may then turn to U.S. Marshals to gain entry into the site.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Weekend storms caused heavy damage at a Missouri River recreation area south of Bismarck and injured people at a lake southwest of the city.

Several tents, campers and vehicles were destroyed by strong winds and falling trees at Kimball Bottoms on Saturday night. Wind gusts estimated at about 60 mph snapped some trees in half and tore others from the ground.

No one was hurt at Kimball Bottoms, but three people suffered head injuries when hail the size of baseballs and softballs fell at Lake Tschida (SHY’-duh) Saturday night. The severity of the injuries was not known.

(CSi) The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a 60 year old man has died whe he rolled his pickup west of Tolna on Saturday.

He was westbound on Nelson County Road 24 and failed to negotiate a small curve and entered a ditch.

The driver over corrected and came out of the ditch, losing control and then rolling into a slew, and was ejected.

The unidentified man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing his seatbelt.

The accident is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol

The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Steele (CSi) Authorities have identified three 19-year-old Bismarck men injured in a rollover Friday southeast of Steele in which the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Chad Tarno was driving west on 41st Street Southeast about 3 miles southeast of Steele around 12:30 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over in the south ditch, according to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The rollover threw Tyler Bonagofsky out of the car. Bonagofsky, who had been in the back seat, was transported with Tarno to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

The two men weren’t wearing seat belts. The other passenger, James Barnes, did have his seat belt on and was also injured in the rollover.

Police arrested Tarno on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The Highway Patrol is still investigating.

ESMOND, N.D. (AP) – Officials are investigating a death at a Pierce County lake.

Authorities using boats and sonar on Buffalo Lake recovered the body of the 20-year-old swimmer Sunday. The search began after the man was reported missing late Saturday.

The body was sent to Grand Forks for an autopsy. Authorities did not immediate identify the man other than to say he was from Benson County.

ANTLER, N.D. (AP) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection reopened the U.S.-Canadian border at Antler on Sunday after water receded from Highway 256.

Both U.S. Highway 256 and Canada Highway 256 had been closed due to overland flooding.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation says the roadway is now safe and has been reopened for travel.  The Lyleton, Manitoba port of entry operated by the Canada Border Services Agency also reopened on Sunday.

The Antler port of entry is open seven days a week, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Volunteers are being recruited to help make repairs to Lawrence Welk’s boyhood home in southern North Dakota.

The three-day effort begins on Aug. 1 near Strasburg.

The state Historical Society voted in January to buy the homestead from Welk’s nieces. The purchase agreement was contingent on negotiated repairs being made to the property, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Legislature last year included $100,000 in the Historical Society’s budget for the purchase but lawmakers stipulated that repairs must first be made.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot’s police department is planning to scramble its radio broadcasts by the end of the year.

Members of the public currently can listen in to police radio traffic on scanners. Members of the media often use them to keep tabs on possible news stories.

Capt. John Klug says there are numerous reasons for cutting off public access to police communications. They include the possibility of criminals using the information to avoid capture, and the possible public release of personal information such as names and addresses of people with whom officers speak.

North Dakota Newspaper Association attorney Jack McDonald says it’s a police department’s choice whether to scramble communications, and it does not appear to be a trend around the country.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Farm commodity rail shipments are running about a month behind in North Dakota.

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board has told BNSF Railway and Canadian Pacific to submit plans to address backlogs in northern Plains states and begin filing weekly updates.

The companies filed their first updates last week.

BNSF Railway reported 4,942 past due rail cars in North Dakota averaging 32 days late. North Dakota had the most past-due rail cars followed by Montana, Minnesota, Washington and South Dakota.

BNSF promised in April to add more locomotives and crews in an effort to address the agriculture shipping delays.

Canadian Pacific’s report does not include a specific number of past-due rail cars or average lateness. But the railroad estimated a backlog demand of 10,000 to 12,000 cars across its system.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – West Fargo’s new police chief is taking the reins of the force.

A Monday afternoon swearing-in ceremony was scheduled for Mike Reitan.

Reitan is taking over for Arland Rasmussen, who retired at the end of June after 19 years leading the department.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – The Williams County Commission on Tuesday plans to rule on whether to hit an oil services company with nearly $30 million in fines on allegations of a crew camp violating zoning regulations in North Dakota’s oil patch.

Western Petroleum LLC representatives were unable to attend last week’s meeting and requested that it be moved to Tuesday.

The commission in June said that Western Petroleum had been operating employee housing on a plot of land off Highway 2 without renewing a condition use permit for two years. Commissioners said the company had built unsanctioned buildings, and there is no record of Western Petroleum paying crew fees for the past two years.

An attorney representing the company suggested the fines are egregious.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Aric Almirola won the weather-delayed and rain-shortened Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway, putting Richard Petty’s famed No. 43 in Victory Lane for the first time since 1999. Brian Vickers was second, followed by Kurt Busch, Casey Mears and Austin Dillon.

TENNIS…

LONDON (AP) – Novak Djokovic (JOH’-koh-vihch) is the Wimbledon men’s singles champion again after overcoming a late collapse and withstanding a match that lasted almost four hours.

Djokovic blew a comfortable lead in the fourth set before holding off Switzerland’s Roger Federer 6-7, 7-4, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4. The Serbian was up 5-2 in the fourth and had championship point in the 10th game of the set before Federer extended the match. Djokovic broke Federer in the final game to claim his second Wimbledon crown, and first since 2011.

Federer was seeking his record eighth Wimbledon crown. Djokovic took the title in 2011.

Petra Kvitova (kuh-VIT’-oh-vah) won the women’s singles title yesterday, beating Eugenie Bouchard (yoo-JEE’-nee boo-SHAHRD’) 6-3, 6-0 in 55 minutes.

Djokovic’s win closes out a Wimbledon in which no U.S. singles players reached the Round of 16, something that hadn’t happened since 1911. However, Noah Rubin has bolstered America’s future hopes by winning the boy’s singles title, defeating fellow U.S. player Stefan Kozlov 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

TOUR…

CAMBRIDGE, England (AP) – Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali is king of the pack as the Tour de France riders have set off from the university town of Cambridge toward a London finish near Buckingham Palace for Stage 3.

A stage victory could be in store for a breakaway rider or sprint star at the end of the flat 155-kilometer (96-mile) ride Monday that takes riders past Big Ben and Westminster Abbey to the finish on The Mall in London.

Astana team riders will be protecting the yellow-clad Nibali as if he were a queen bee a day after he led a breakaway pack to strip Germany’s Marcel Kittel of the leader’s shirt.

Stage 3 culminates the English sojourn of the Tour this year. The race crosses the English Channel into France on Tuesday.

GOLF…

WHITE SULPHER SPRINGS, W. Va (AP) – Angel Cabrera fired his second consecutive 6-under-par 64 to win the Greenbrier Classic by two strokes over George McNeill. The Argentine was 16-under in earning his first non-major PGA victory. His other wins came in the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters.

In world and national news…

VIENNA (AP) – Diplomats in Vienna say they’re making little headway in getting Tehran to crimp activities that could be turned toward making nuclear weapons. As negotiations move closer to a July 20 target date for a deal, both sides are trying to plug holes in a draft agreement. Two diplomats say there’s still disagreement on the constraints Iraq would accept in exchange for a full end to sanctions that are stifling its economy.

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) – Officials in Nigeria say some 63 girls kidnaped by Islamic extremists two weeks ago have escaped. Local officials in the northeast say the girls and women got away Thursday and Friday while their captors were battling Nigerian soldiers. Some 219 school girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram (BOH’-koh hah-RAHM’) on April 15 in Borno state are still missing.

NOVOBAKHMUTIVKA, Ukraine (AP) – Three bridges leading into the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk have been destroyed by explosions, blocking key access routes to the rebel-held city. Pro-Russia rebels have promised to continue their battle against Ukrainian government forces. The self-described governor of the Donetsk People’s Republic has promised “real partisan war around the whole perimeter of Donetsk.”

JERUSALEM (AP) – Israel’s foreign minister says he’s ending a political alliance with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the ultranationalist Yisrael Beitenu party, says he and Netanyahu have significant differences on many key issues and it no longer makes sense to maintain the alliance between their parties. More recently, the two have feuded over how to respond to a wave of rocket fire out of the Gaza Strip.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (AP) – Authorities in Idaho say an 8-year-old boy’s dad and his uncle are dead after they jumped into the Snake River to rescue him after he fell in. The Elmore County Sheriff’s office says the three were fishing yesterday afternoon when the men went in after the boy and were swept away by the current. A 23-year-old man also jumped into the river and was able to rescue the boy. The father and uncle’s bodies have been recovered.
