Jamestown (CSi) Work this week on the Jamestown Dam spillway, includes replacing the drains at the outside of the concrete on both the west and east ends.
The work does not include replacing the stilling pond or the spillway.
The current drains were installed during construction of the dam and can not be repaired.
During the special maintenance work the stairway access to the area below the dam is closed, this week.
U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, Deputy of Facilities and Engineer Service for the Dakotas, Darrin Goetzfried, says the work may also require lowering river levels by opening the gates at the Ice House Dam in Jamestown.
Outflows from Jamestown Dam are expected to match inflows into the reservoir keeping the lake level at 1,431 feet. Current releases from Jamestown Dam are at 200 cubic feet per second.
Plans include work on the east slope drain starting this week, with work on the west slope scheduled for late August this year.

It has 23 office locations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota and Wyoming.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A jury has found a Bismarck man guilty on murder conspiracy charges for death of an 18-year-old South Dakota man who had recently moved to the area.
A jury found 20-year-old Joshua Clark guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, a class AA Felony.
Authorities allege that Clark and 26-year-old Theo Crowe conspired to kill John Swain, who had recently moved to Bismarck from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, when he was killed and dismembered last year.
Crowe pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge in the case last October and was sentenced in January to life in prison. On Tuesday he refused to testify against Clark.
A pre-sentence investigation will take place before he is sentenced. Clark could face life in prison if convicted.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The White House has singled out the oil patch of northwestern North Dakota and northeastern Montana as part of its 2014 national drug control strategy.
The report released Wednesday says dramatic increases in crime in the Bakken oil-producing region has overwhelmed state, local and tribal agencies working with limited resources.
The document says the FBI and other federal agencies will continue to work with state and local police on “law enforcement, quality of life, women’s safety and tribal issues” in oil country.
North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) says it’s appropriate to be listed in the report because drug crimes in the state increased nearly 20 percent in the last year.
Stenehjem says he’s preparing a budget for the next Legislature that includes a “robust oil patch crime initiative.”
MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) – Tribal officials say they’ve switched to an alternative source of water for one North Dakota town following a substantial leak from a saltwater pipeline.
Officials with the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation say they closed the water intake to Mandaree as a precaution but didn’t elaborate on the change in water supply.
Kris Roberts, an environmental geologist, says the state health department doesn’t yet have any information on volumes or if the brine has reached Bear Den Bay, a tributary to Lake Sakakawea. The lake provides drinking water to several communities on the reservation.
Roberts says there are dead trees, grasses and bushes near the leak area. Saltwater is a byproduct of oil production and can be many times saltier than ocean water.
Crestwood Midstream Services says cleanup is underway.

JERUSALEM (AP) – With thousands of Israeli troops stationed near the border with the Gaza Strip, Israeli officials are talking as if a ground invasion of Gaza will happen soon. But Israeli security officials are still hesitant to order that move — partly because it could lead to heavy civilian casualties on the Palestinian side while putting Israeli troops in danger. And it’s not clear whether the international community would support it, or how Israel would end it. For now, Israel is continuing its strikes into Gaza from the air and sea, hitting about 200 Hamas targets today.
WASHINGTON (AP) – Top Obama administration officials are telling senators that they’ve been struggling to keep up with the surge of immigrants at the nation’s southern border. The administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency testified Wednesday that authorities haven’t yet been able to make sure that children arriving at the border without their parents are being processed by the Border Patrol as quickly as required. Republicans at the hearing blamed the Obama administration for trying to relax some deportation rules. They said it contributes to the belief in Central America that once they are in the U.S., migrant kids will be allowed to stay.
DALLAS (AP) – President Barack Obama’s two-day fundraising trip to Texas, won’t include a visit to the border area where tens of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America have arrived in recent months. But Obama is holding a meeting hundreds of miles away, in Dallas, to discuss the crisis with faith leaders and Texas officials, including Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
DENVER (AP) – Before flying to Texas, Wednesday, President Barack Obama has been in Colorado, urging Democrats to throw their support and their money behind Sen. Mark Udall, who is locked in a tight re-election bid. But missing from that event was Udall himself, who decided at the last minute to stay in Washington rather than appear alongside the president. Republicans have been quick to point to Udall’s absence from the fundraiser. His Republican challenger says Udall decided to “hide” in Washington, after being accused of being a “rubber stamp” for Obama’s agenda.
