Lt. Sheldon Mohr says the fire was at the truck cab’s right front, axle and the damage extended to the trailer right front area.

Carrington (CSi) No serious injuries reported as a crop dusting airplane crashed while attempting to land at the Carrington airport.

The incident happened about 9-p.m., Tuesday.

The aircraft sustained damaged to its landing gear.

The pilot was taken to Carrington Health Center.

Authorities say the official cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

A theory into the crash is that the fixed landing gear may have been damaged while the plane was in the air.

Jamestown (CSi) Work this week on the Jamestown Dam spillway, includes replacing the drains at the outside of the concrete on both the west and east ends.

The work does not include replacing the stilling pond or the spillway.

The current drains were installed during construction of the dam and can not be repaired.

During the special maintenance work the stairway access to the area below the dam is closed, this week.

U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, Deputy of Facilities and Engineer Service for the Dakotas, Darrin Goetzfried, says the work may also require lowering river levels by opening the gates at the Ice House Dam in Jamestown.

Outflows from Jamestown Dam are expected to match inflows into the reservoir keeping the lake level at 1,431 feet. Current releases from Jamestown Dam are at 200 cubic feet per second.

Plans include work on the east slope drain starting this week, with work on the west slope scheduled for late August this year.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have arrested suspects in two unrelated Minot shootings.

Thirty-seven-year-old Charles Tomlin Jr. was arrested Tuesday night in Dickinson, where he had been working. He had been wanted since a July 2013 incident in which a man was shot in the neck but survived.

Tomlin is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Minot police on Wednesday arrested 31-year-old Robert Putney. He faces an aggravated assault charge for a June 15 shooting that injured a female passenger in his vehicle.

Court documents don’t list an attorney for either Tomlin or Putney.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A jury has found a Bismarck man guilty on murder conspiracy charges for death of an 18-year-old South Dakota man who had recently moved to the area.

A  jury found 20-year-old Joshua Clark guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, a class AA Felony.

Authorities allege that Clark and 26-year-old Theo Crowe conspired to kill John Swain, who had recently moved to Bismarck from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, when he was killed and dismembered last year.

Crowe pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge in the case last October and was sentenced in January to life in prison. On Tuesday he refused to testify against Clark.

A pre-sentence investigation will take place before he is sentenced. Clark could be sentenced to life in prison.

Bismarck, (CSi) The North Dakota State Health Department reports that mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in samples in Grand Forks.

Officials say it’s the first confirmation of the “culex tarsalis” type of mosquito in the state this year.

Health Department officials encourage those outdoors to use a repellant that contains the chemical,”deet,” and wear long sleeve shirts and long pants when outdoors.

It’s especially important at dusk and in the early morning when mosquito numbers are the highest.

In 2013,127 people were diagnosed with West Nile virus in North Dakota.

LEITH, N.D. (AP) – City officials in Leith will not appeal the decision by a state attorney disciplinary board committee to reject a complaint filed against Grant County State’s Attorney Todd Schwarz.

Leith officials accused Schwarz of acting unprofessionally and possibly unethically while prosecuting white supremacist Craig Cobb, who unsuccessfully tried to take over the town. Cobb agreed to a plea deal with Schwarz that put him on probation for terrorizing and menacing and kept him out of prison.

Schwarz called the complaint frivolous, and the committee recently dismissed it. Leith officials could appeal to the disciplinary board, but town spokesman Greg Bruce says the city will not challenge the committee’s decision.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger is slated to release a voters’ survey done after the June 10 primary election.

Jaeger says the survey to be released Thursday includes information about voters and the impact of changes to the state’s voter identification laws.

The American Civil Liberties Union and a Fargo-based-nonprofit want North Dakota’s voter identification laws expanded to allow more forms of ID.

The ACLU and the Freedom Resource Center for Independent Living say North Dakota’s current law could disenfranchise disabled and Native American voters.

North Dakota requires voters to bring to the polls ID showing their current address and birthdate. The acceptable forms of ID are a North Dakota driver’s license, a non-driver’s license, a tribal ID, student ID and a long-term care ID certificate.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says the decision by the White House to include the oil patch in its national drug control strategy was the result of a visit to the state by the country’s former drug czar.

The report released Wednesday singled out the Bakken oil-producing region for a “burgeoning threat” of drug distribution and other crime that has overwhelmed law enforcement authorities.

Heitkamp says the administration’s focus on the Bakken is an important step. She says the inclusion into the 2014 drug fighting plan came about after she invited R. Gil Kerlikowske to North Dakota last summer.

Kerlikowske was the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy at the time.

Law enforcement officers are hoping the administration’s attention to the Bakken will result in more funding.

SAO PAULO (AP) – For the third time, it will be Argentina-Germany in a World Cup final after the Argentines advanced to Sunday’s championship with a semifinal victory over the Netherlands in a match decided by a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks. Argentina beat Germany in the 1986 World Cup final and Germany returned the favor in 1990.
TOUR…

ARRAS, France (AP) – Tour de France riders are heading toward Champagne country.

The pack has set off on a 194-kilometer (120 mile) Stage 6 on Thursday – a day after defending champion Chris Froome droped out of the race after crashing twice and suffering a wrist injury.

The course from Arras to Reims is mostly flat and should favor a sprint finish, though rainy weather could have an impact.

Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali cemented his overall lead on Wednesday in a mud-splattered run on cobblestones. The Astana team leader was too strong for his main rivals in the absence of Froome: Spaniards Alberto Contador, a two-time Tour champ, and Alejandro Valverde.

Overall, Nibali has a two-second lead over teammate Jakob Fuglsang of Denmark in second. Slovakia’s Peter Sagan is third, 44 seconds back.

NBA…

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Sioux Falls Skyforce head coach Pat Delany is moving on to the NBA. Charlotte Hornets General Manager Rich Cho says the team has added Delany as an assistant coach under head coach Steve Clifford. Delany spent last season as head coach of the Skyforce. He led the team to a 31-19 record.
In an apparent move to clear cap space to try and lure either LeBron James or another high profile free agent, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly pulled off a three-team trade. A person familiar with the deals says the Cavaliers have agreed to trade guard Jarrett Jack, swingman Sergey Karasev and center Tyler Zeller. The Cavs have agreements with the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because teams are not permitted to discuss any trades until the league’s moratorium ends Thursday.

UNDATED (AP) – Gregg Popovich has agreed to a multi-year extension to stay on as coach of the San Antonio Spurs.  The team did not announce the terms of the deal in a two-sentence news release.

Popovich returns to a team that has Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw (DEE’-ow) and the rest of the key elements of a team that won the franchise’s fifth NBA title all set to return next season. It was the Spurs’ fifth title under Popovich, who also won his third coach of the year award after leading the team to an NBA-best 62 wins in the regular season.

He is one of three coaches to be named coach of the year three times.

The Bucks have signed first-round draft pick Jabari Parker to his rookie contract. Parker is guaranteed a minimum of about $8.5 million in the first two years.

In world and national news…

JERUSALEM (AP) – Israel has mobilized 20,000 reservists for a possible ground operation in Gaza, but for now it’s maximizing its aerial assault. Palestinians say 16 people have been killed in strikes that hit a home and a beachside cafe today, bringing the death toll from the three-day offensive to at least 80. Israel says it struck more than 320 Hamas targets overnight, including rocket launching sites. Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defense system has intercepted at least 70 militant rockets in recent days.
HOUSTON (AP) – Law enforcement officials near Houston are talking about last night’s shooting that left four children and two adults dead and 15-year-old in critical condition. Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Gilliland says all of the children were the suspected gunman’s and his estranged wife’s. Authorities say the 15 year-old called 911 for help. And following a police chase and a three-hour standoff, the alleged gunman surrendered.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – President Barack Obama is publicly pressing Texas Gov. Rick Perry to use his influence with Texas’ Republican-heavy congressional delegation to back a nearly $4 billion emergency spending package to help deal with a flood of young unaccompanied child immigrants that has overwhelmed the Border Patrol in South Texas. Obama and Perry met in Dallas yesterday. Perry is making no promises. He blames the border crisis on what he calls Obama’s “bad public policy” on immigration and says the president should visit the border.

BERLIN (AP) – A close ally of Angela Merkel’s says the German Chancellor is “not amused” by the latest reported cases of U.S. spying in Germany. Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble says Germany relies strongly on the United States in the fight against terrorism, but “that doesn’t mean that the Americans are allowed to recruit third-rate people here.” The comments follow the arrest of one man and an investigation against another on suspicion of working for a foreign intelligence agency.

TOKYO (AP) – After earning nearly a half a billion dollars elsewhere around the world, Godzilla is headed to Japan. Tokyo is rolling out the red carpet for Hollywood’s remake, but there’s some nervousness about how it will be received in the nation where the fire-breathing monster was conceived. With a gala event planned today, Director Gareth Edwards stresses he merely parented what was the child of Japan.
