The AdvancED guidelines are required to be met for the district to maintain accreditation with the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement to receive funding.
There are five standards and 35 indicators throughout those standards that are used to measure the quality of the district.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A 16-year-old Dickinson boy faces charges
in juvenile court after authorities say he brought a gun on school
property.
Superintendent Douglas Sullivan tells The Dickinson Press that
the student brandished the gun in the high school parking lot
during the school’s homecoming dance last Friday.
Police say the gun was not loaded, and no one was hurt.
The incident happened one day after a high school student in the
southeastern North Dakota community of Fairmount shot himself in
front of classmates in an apparent suicide attempt.
The boy survived, and is recovering in a Fargo Hospital.
MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. (AP) – Officials have launched a
multimillion-dollar effort to move the community of Minnewaukan out
of reach of the chronically flooding Devils Lake.
The state’s congressional delegation and governor say the
federal government is providing $6 million to buy out homes, move
others, and build water and sewer lines and access roads to the
site dubbed New Minnewaukan.
Ground was broken at the site on Monday. The Grand Forks Herald
reports it’s about a mile away and 30 feet higher than the original
townsite.
The lake has been expanding for two decades because of wet
weather, encroaching on the community of about 200 people.
Many buildings already have been moved, along with a highway on the
town’s east edge.
A new $11 million school also is under construction.
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A company that supplies and services valves
and other flow-control components for the energy industry is
building a facility in Mandan.
Novaspect Holdings Inc. broke ground Tuesday on the
20,000-square-foot facility that is to open next year. The company
expects to have about 30 employees within two years, and an annual
payroll of $2.6 million.
The company has a relationship with Bismarck State College,
where it provides lectures and technical training and support.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Locked-out workers at American Crystal Sugar
Co. factories in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota
are demonstrating outside businesses in the Fargo and Grand Forks
areas that sell the company’s products.
The workers are urging members of the public to participate in a
consumer boycott to protest the 14-month lockout of union workers
in the two states and Iowa.
The AFL-CIO earlier this month said the boycott will be called
off if the company returns to bargaining and concludes a contract
with about 1,300 locked-out workers.
The company on Monday reiterated its position that its offer to
union workers was fair. Vice President Brian Ingulsrud says Crystal Sugar is
focusing on its replacement workers at the sugar beet processing
plants.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Republican U.S. House candidate Kevin
Cramer is defending his support for eliminating a wind energy tax
break.
Cramer and Democrat Pam Gulleson squared off Tuesday in a debate
broadcast live from Fargo’s KFGO Radio.
They clashed on wind energy subsidies, federal tax rates and the
taxpayer bailout of General Motors.
Gulleson says she supported the bailout, while Cramer says an
“orderly bankruptcy” of the company would have been better.
Cramer wants to dump a federal tax credit that helps the wind
energy industry.
North Dakota is a leading producer of wind power.
But Cramer says it’s wrong to continue the subsidy because of the
nation’s $16 trillion debt.
Gulleson says the wind industry means hundreds of North Dakota
jobs, and says renewable energy development should be encouraged.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has
appointed a Dickinson attorney as the new administrator of the
North Dakota Mediation Service.
Bethany Abrams worked for a Minnesota district judge and as an
attorney in Minneapolis before joining a Dickinson law firm and
specializing in creditor rights, lending industry issues and
domestic conflict resolution.
The state Agriculture Department’s Mediation Service was started
in 1984 to help farmers and ranchers resolve disputes with
creditors. It has since expanded to also handle disputes over
energy development and wildlife depredation.
Abrams succeeds Tom Silbernagel, who retired in August after
about eight years as administrator.
Sports news…
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The influx of people from around the
country into the western North Dakota oil patch has resulted in an
increase in citations for fishing without a license.
Game and Fish Department Director Terry Steinwandsays wardens this year have issued about 240 citations to people who don’t have the proper
fishing license, compared to about 100 all of last year.
Doug Olson is the warden supervisor for the northwestern part of
the state. He says wardens worked hard over the summer checking
anglers.
Steinwand says his department also has been proactive in
trying to get information on how to hunt and fish legally to people
who are new to the state.
Fishing without a license is a misdemeanor that carries a fine
of up to $1,000.
In world and national news…
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) – Mitt Romney appears to be in good spirits
in advance of tonight’s second debate with President Barack Obama.
Romney was smiling broadly as he stepped off his campaign plane in
New York Tuesday.
He’ll be trying to repeat his performance from the first debate, where he was seen as a clear-cut winner over a listless Obama.
That gave the Romney campaign a major boost and significantly tightened the race. Tonight’s debate will feature a town-hall style format in which the candidates take questions on foreign and domestic policy from audience members.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Supreme Court is giving Democrats a
boost, three weeks before the election. The court today refused to
intervene in early voting dispute in Ohio.
That, in effect, upheld a lower court decision that reinstated three days of early voting that Ohio Republican officials had tried to eliminate.
President Barack Obama’s campaign and Ohio Democrats sued the state over
changes in the law that took away the three days of early voting
for most people in the state. Nearly 105,000 voted early in 2008.
NARBERTH, Pa. (AP) -Vice President Joe Biden is remembering what
he calls the “undaunted courage” of former U.S. Sen. Arlen
Specter.
Biden was among many political dignitaries to attend Specter’s funeral Tuesday.
He noted that the Pennsylvania political moderate was so determined to beat a string of illnesses that he managed to teach one last law class less than two weeks before his death.
Specter died at his suburban home on Sunday at 82 after battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
HAVANA, Cuba (AP) – Cubans are shocked and delighted with news
that the country will no longer require citizens to apply for an
exit visa.

policies that made it burdensome for those that wanted to travel
abroad.
Starting Jan. 14, Cubans will only have to show their passports and a visa for the country that they are traveling to, in order to leave.
