BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Two more people have been charged in the
case of a defunct Arizona mortgage lender accused of swindling
Bismarck-based BNC National Bank out of about $27 million.
Lauretta Horton, former director of accounting with American
Mortgage Specialists Incorporated, and David Kaufman, an
independent auditor, have pleaded not guilty in federal court.
Horton is accused of inflating assets and altering other
financial information. Authorities say Kaufman lied to
investigators.
Two AMS executives, Scott Powers and David McMaster, pleaded
guilty Friday to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud.

false financial statements and other information about the status
of loans the bank had financed.
Sentencing for Powers and McMaster is scheduled April 15th. They
face up to 30 years in prison.
BUCYRUS, N.D. (AP) – An annual pheasant and grouse hunt that
benefits the Bismarck Cancer Center also is helping residents of a
small North Dakota town nearly wiped out by a wildfire.
The “Hunting Dakota with Roosevelt” event brings together
North Dakota military personnel, cancer survivors and others. Last
year, the hunt raised nearly $100,000 for the center.
This year, the hunt’s banquet in Medora also included an auction with
the proceeds going to victims of last week’s fire in Bucyrus
(byoo-CY’-ruhs). The town with about two dozen residents lost four
homes to the Wednesday fire.
Lemmon, S.D.-based Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union also has
set up a relief fund for the Adams County town near the South
Dakota border.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Food truck operators who serve
Williston’s oil field workers are preparing for a city ban on their
operations.
Starting Jan. 1, mobile restaurants will be prohibited in
Williston, except for coffee kiosks.
Williston Mayor Ward Koeser (KOH’-zur) says the ban is part of a
city attempt to encourage more permanent development.
One of the affected businesses is the Big Iron Kitchen. It’s run
by Ernie and Jo Bingham from Bainville, Mont. They’ve been
operating from the parking lot of a bar for the past 17 months.
Jo Bingham says they’ve begun planning to build a permanent
location at the bar. But she says it’s “heart-wrenching to think that we
have to move.”
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A western North Dakota county may require
oil companies to sign agreements to repair the road damage caused
by heavy trucks.
Dunn County road superintendent Mike Zimmerman says the county’s
main roads have to be improved soon, or they’ll be damaged by
winter traffic.
Zimmerman is asking the Dunn County Commission to require oil
companies that use the roads to sign agreements to put the roads
back into their former condition.
The commission is considering Zimmerman’s suggestions.
Dunn County is one of the leading oil-producing counties in
western North Dakota.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The man who wanted to be the North Dakota
Libertarian candidate for governor will get a state Supreme Court
hearing on why he was left off the ballot.
But Roland Riemers won’t get his time before the justices until
Election Day. That’s when the arguments are scheduled.
Riemers didn’t qualify for the ballot because his lieutenant
governor candidate didn’t turn in the right paperwork.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger asked for a legal opinion about the
omission.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem concluded that state law didn’t
allow Riemers to run for governor if he didn’t have a running mate.
Riemers contends if that’s so, the Democratic and Republican
candidates for governor didn’t fill out their paperwork correctly
either – and they should have been dropped from the ballot.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Children of Grand Forks Air Force Base

owned by women.
The governor says North Dakota’s working women and
women business owners are “creating jobs, expanding business
opportunities and bringing leadership skills and innovative ideas
to a variety of industries.”
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – When the movie Fargo debuted in 1996, many
residents in the North Dakota city were not fans of the film’s dark
humor, not to mention the heavy accents.
But the fame and cash from the movie eventually brought many
Fargo residents around. Now, 16 years later, Fargo awaits the debut
of a new cable television show by the same name.
And many residents are less apprehensive about how their
hometown will be portrayed this time around.
Charley Johnson is president and CEO of Fargo’s convention and
visitor’s bureau. He says the TV show can’t be a bad thing for
Fargo because people still talk about the movie.
The FX Network has released few details about the TV show
including its timeline. But that hasn’t stopped people from
speculating about it.

NEW YORK (AP) – The NHL and the players’ association are still
talking, but have no plans yet to return to the bargaining table.
For the second straight day, representatives on both sides of
the lockout had telephone conversations on Sunday. None of those
talks have yet led to concrete negotiations that could lead to an
elusive collective bargaining agreement and get the delayed hockey
season going.
The lockout entered its 36th day on Sunday. All games through
Nov. 1 have been canceled by the NHL, and the league says a deal
must be reached by Thursday for a full 82-game season to be played.

GENEVA (AP) – Cycling’s governing body has effectively wiped the
record books of Tour de France winners during the Lance Armstrong
era.
The UCI has upheld the findings of the U.S. Anti-doping agency

And with the race pretty much neck and neck, both President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney will try to present themselves as leaders
worthy of voters’ support.
LONDON (AP) – A terrorism-related trial has begun in London,
where prosecutors say a plot by the three defendants could have
been deadlier than the 2005 mass-transit attacks.

for terrorism by plotting a bombing campaign, recruiting others and
fundraising.
